Chapter 1 - Waterdavian Affairs

A 5e D&D campaign starting at 1st level in and around the city of Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realms.

Waterdeep: City of Splendours, seat of many thousand plots. Are they opportunities for success, or for an untimely demise?
Will the adventurers sit safely in their comfort zones? Or will they risk their all to carve out a slice of Realms history with their names on it? Puppet or puppeteer?

The 12-strong Watch patrol approaches, possibly on a direct line to Sue, now only 20' or 30' away.
Sue's efforts to blend in solicits a shout from the Captain, "Hey you, yes, you, Goodsir!"

Sue knows that it's too late to run for it now, a fine chase, to be sure, but a reckoning inevitable.
Surrendering to the inevitable, Sue stands his ground. Ten of the 12 Watch are wearing the optional face masks, including the Captain.
They fan out slightly as if by chance, probably only perceptible to the half-orc as a professional tactic to catch 'runners'.

"Is there a problem, Goodsir?" asks the Captain, suspicion plain in his voice.

Sue - a single Perception (Wisdom) skill roll for:
DC5 to potentially recognize either of the two faces or the Captain's voice.
DC15 for the masked patrolmen.
(DC is +10 higher for Alecia)

Sue doesn't recognize either of the two faces or the Captain's voice.

"Well, Goodsir, dressed for show, is it?" asks the captain, making a theatrical study of the various weaponry, including a glance at Sue's right collar, the traditional place for a numbered pin.*
"So what's your business in Waterdeep? Off duty guard? Seeking merc employment?"

*Numbered pin signifies an adventuring band. Falsifying one is considered a crime.
Chance to recognise [1d100] = 85 Sue has not been recognized.
Sue knows that patrols are around 5 per bell in Dock Ward.

"The Docks arent always safe as I'm sure you folk know all too well. I thought having the impression of an armed guard would avoid a situation like I had this morning. Some disgusting men tried to grope me. It was very unsettling."

She knows the faces and the voice.

"Goodwife, you should have called and we would have come," the Captain replies with the barest bob of his head. "Having such an escort would likely deter a pack. I am sorry for your experience."
He looks at Sue, a very careful look at peaceknots and then takes a pace back, "Goodsir."

Taking the cue to continue on their way, Sue and Alecia reach their destination shortly thereafter..

Alecia recognizes the Captain's voice and is pretty sure she hasn't seen the two revealed faces before.

Taking the queue to continue, Sue sets a good pace hoping to avoid any more groups of the Watch. He understands why he would have been stopped, but he now understands what it is like to be on the other end of that glare of disapproval, and unsolicited attention.

"Well that was interesting. I have never been on that side of the Watch before."

"They are only doing their jobs, but it's quite worrying." The priestess replies and allows the Warrior to lead, when they finally arrive she takes a moment to scan the surroundings. "So this is the place to find willing ladies?" She asks with a slightly blush mating he soft skin.

Nix makes a motion to give himself away and is found waiting for the pair, lounging along one wall of the Hanging Lantern.

(Alexia & Sue can both see a movement about 30-40' away and then realize it's Nix.)

The Hanging Lantern Festhall is a large, windowless building that rises a full six floors above the street.
It's tucked into a square of shops and warehouses bounded by Shrimp Street, Pressbow Lane, Oar Alley and Ship Street.
The group can see four entrances.
None of these streets, lane or alley have any degree of notorious reputation so far as the group are aware.

Sue will nod towards Nix. "Looks like your friend is done whatever he was doing." He will then continue to walk towards the closest door.

There's a sturdy oak door to the left and another to the right, nearer to Nix.

Resisting the urge to run into his arms Alecia walks with determination towards him, her face lighting up as she gets closer. "Yes, I'm sure it was important, perhaps he has some more information." She suggests moving towards the right door, and by extension directly to Nix.

"Hey. Everything alright?" She asks, "We encountered some of the watch but I explained I was going to help some orphans and they didn't trouble us." She smirks knowing that the statement wasn't wholy untrue, after all they were both Orphans werent they?

Sue stays close-ish to the others, but will not stop to chat. He will open the door and step inside.
