CH. 13: Consequences

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Haahqae and Arulia (Abandoned Warehouse, Exterior)
The little mouse in Haahqae's hand sniffs at the air timidly and shivers a bit in the exposed cold, especially after being removed from the warmth of the gnome's head.

Kendra Greylock (2527 Market Street, Greylock's Gorgeous Gems)
"I suppose that's the price of fame," Sadron comments. "But in a way, isn't that what you wanted? To get in good with the prefect. It seems you are on the right track then. He obviously considers you important enough to guard."

Grubnick (Outside the Happee Ohgr, River Way)
Checking to see if anyone was following, Grubnick heads toward the Happee Ohgr, getting ahead of the procession. He prays to Sirrion, but no answer comes. The procession will be along shortly.

(OOC: You're right that they aren't moving very fast; only at around movement rate 6. How far Grubnick can get ahead of them depends on how fast he is moving, i.e., jogging, running, etc. If he just walks, he's moving at the same speed as them, 6. The Happee Ohgr is the goblin place, yes.)

Ne-Chanz and Shima (Central Haven Sewers)
Shima crosses the bridge, and a short time after, Ne-Chanz follows. The bridge creaks heavily under the minotaur's weight, but luckily does not give way. Once on the other side, the only way to go, besides back across the bridge, is through the door there.

"Even so, I don't think it is enough," Kendra says. "He is too paranoid about rebels to listen to what I have to say especially when it comes to the trade guild members."

[Ooc: Let's go with Running 3x speed. The prayer was more for flavor and character consistency than any expectation it would be answered dramatically ;) ]

Shima checks the door for traps and tries to remove any found, then unlocking it if locked and finally steps back to allow Ne-Chanz to proceed.

Kendra Greylock (2527 Market Street, Greylock's Gorgeous Gems)
"Do you know if they caught any of the rebels today in the attack?" Sadron asks. "That might placate him if they did. Hmm, if I could somehow contact these rebels, maybe they'd take me in, too. If there are any left after today, that is."

Grubnick (Outside the Happee Ohgr, River Way)
Grubnick starts pumping his legs, putting more distance between himself and the procession as he hurries forward.

==========

Grubnick makes a STR check [TN 11] (1d20): 10, pass. He can move x3 his movement rate for each round he passes a CON check.

(OOC: Actually, you'd be surprised. The gods answer prayers fairly frequently in Dragonlance. Especially the Good and Evil ones. The Neutral ones tend to be more aloof.

Anyway, he's now moving 18 feet per round, while the procession is only moving 6 feet per round. He has to make a CON check each round with a cumulative -1 to the check. His CON is pretty good, so barring bad luck, he should be able to maintain that pace for a few rounds, at least. So the question here is how far ahead he wants to get of them. That would depend on how many rounds you want before they reach you. So if you run for 1 round while they walk for 1 round, then you stop, you'll have 2 rounds before they reach you again. If you run 2 rounds while they walk 2 rounds, then you'll have 4 rounds before they reach you. Note that if you do fail your CON checks, you are winded and can't run anymore for at least 10 rounds.)

Ne-Chanz and Shima (Central Haven Sewers)
While Shima is busy looking the door over for traps, they hear splashes all around them from the sludge river. Four skeletons surface from the water and climb up on the shore, dripping with green goop. Each is armed with a spear and begin to advance toward the two.

[Would he be able to jog upon failing a con check? I'd like at least 4 rounds of time. This is probably going to get Grubnick killed, but he feels like he has to do something for Delarn. He still has a little residual guilt for not freeing the Dwarf sooner when hia goblin tribe captured him when they first met. Maybe unreasonably so, but *shrug*.]

"There aren't really any rebels as far as I know," Kendra says. "The person they caught, I assume is just acting on his own." Kendra sits down at the table where she normally has her breakfast. "Apparently, he was a true cleric of some other God too."

Arulia looks at the mouse and back to Haahqae, clearly not comprehending. "Its...it's very nice to meet her," she says. She is silent for a long time, then says, "I'm sorry, Haahqae. I led you all the way out here for nothing. I don't know what else to do, and I'm tired of it. I'm going home."

"Take our the north ones first," suggests Shima, and goes for #1 with longsword.
He adds, "Both take down the same one maybe?"

"If you don't know what to do, you should hang around me more often. I might have my failings, but finding something to do is rarely one of them."

A sudden thought occurs to Haahqae. Gobax must have known the injustice those four had done to others and known they shouldn't be agents, and then ran after the procession in such a hurry. Perhaps he had a plan where Haahqae did not? The least Haahqae could do is help him out, and Arulia should do the same.
"I don't know what our goblin friend is up to, but I'm guessing that he's going to need the help of both of us right now. There's no time to delay."

And with that Haahqae hurries off to catch up to the parade, fully expecting Arulia to follow.

Haahqae (River Way)
Haahqae hurries after the procession. Although they aren't moving fast, they have gained some ground on him, so he has to jog for a bit to catch up, especially with his short legs. After a couple of minutes, he comes up behind them but is mostly blocked from seeing the dwarf due to the locals crowding around to see the prisoner. Burzan is so tall that Haahqae easily picks him out, though.

Kendra Greylock (2527 Market Street, Greylock's Gorgeous Gems)
"If there are no rebels, then perhaps you can use this to convince Tethys he's safe," Sadron says. "Persuade him all of the rebel attacks so far were all caused by this one man. He's doomed anyway, so blaming him for everything won't really change anything." He thinks it over. "Another true cleric, huh? So a rival to the Dragon Queen then? I haven't heard anything about the old gods returning, other than Her, that is."

Grubnick (River Way)
Grubnick manages to run for two minutes, putting some distance between him and the oncoming procession. Once he has reached sufficient distance, he comes to a halt. He figures he has about four minutes before they catch back up to him.

==========

Grubnick makes a CON check (-1) [TN 14] (1d20): 9, pass.
Grubnick makes a CON check (-2) [TN 13] (1d20): 2, pass.

(OOC: You have 4 rounds to do whatever you are going to do.)

Ne-Chanz and Shima (Central Haven Sewers)
Shima charges forward, slashing his blade against the first skeleton. However, as it has no flesh to cut, it doesn't do as much damage as it would have against a living creature. Still, he hits it fairly hard. Ne-Chanz joins him, but the skeleton deflects the minotaur's blow with a parry. The second skeleton then stabs at Ne-Chanz, giving him a glancing blow.

The other two come up behind the pair now, effectively surrounding them. One stabs Shima in the back easily, as the dwarf's guard was still down after charging. Luckily, it doesn't pierce his armor too much. The one in front of him counters, but he's able to block it with his shield.

Initiative
Ne-Chanz (1d10+5): 8+5 = 13
Shima (1d10+5): 6+5 = 11
Skeleton 01 (1d10+6+2): 7+6+2 = 15
Skeleton 02 (1d10+6+2): 6+6+2 = 14
Skeleton 03 (1d10+6+2): 1+6+2 = 9
Skeleton 04 (1d10+6+2): 6+6+2 = 14

Round 1!

Skeleton 03 moves 15 feet east and stabs at Ne-Chanz with its spear [TN 13] (1d20): 4, miss.
Shima charges (+2 hit) 5 feet northwest and slashes his long sword at Skeleton 01 [TN 11] (1d20+2): 11, hit for (1d8): 8/2 = 4 damage. Skeleton 01 is seriously damaged.
Ne-Chanz moves 5 feet northeast and 5 feet north, then swings his long sword with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) at Skeleton 01 [TN 10] (1d20+1): 6+1 = 7, miss.
Skeleton 02 stabs at Ne-Chanz with its spear [TN 13] (1d20): 15, hit for (1d6): 1 damage.
Skeleton 04 moves 15 feet east and 5 feet north, then stabs at Shima from behind (+2 hit) with its spear against his leather armor (+2 hit) while ignoring his DEX bonus (+2 hit) after he charged (+1 hit) [TN 14] (1d20+7): 17+7 = 24, hit for (1d6): 2 damage.
Skeleton 01 stabs at Shima with its spear against his leather armor (+2 hit) while ignoring his DEX bonus (+2 hit) after he charged (+1 hit) while he's holding a masterwork shield (-2 hit) [TN 14] (1d20+3): 5+3 = 8, miss.

(OOC: Actions for Round 2?)

Having caught up to the procession Haahqae looks around for Grubnick, but sees no sign of him or any plan of his in action, he can see Burzan, but outside of wanting to spit on him or stab him, Haahqae doesn’t have anything to do with the half-ogre right now, so Haahqae decides to slip away for a minute and, if he can find a quiet, out of the way spot, goes invisible before rejoining the procession.

He doesn’t know what the goblin plans, but if it’s anything like he hopes it is, being invisible might be an asset.
(leave, hide, cast invisibility on self, rejoin crowd)
