"Prisoners of the militant arm of the Temple of Hextor, as it were. This village has been locked down until the matter of Quintus is resolved.
"It is sort of a siege, but in reverse."

"Ahmm... I give you my word we will see this mission fulfilled and return back here." Galanis says proudly and innocently.

"Forgive me if the promise of a mercenary is less than adequate surety. If I were in your position, I would swear all sorts of oaths to get out of a village where random crucifixion is a reality. Anyone would.
"No. I was thinking something more traditional. But first, let us agree on constitutes success in this matter. My first thought was that you should kill Quintus for us, but then I realized that since we do not know what the man looks like, you could bring back any corpse and say that it is he.
"Bringing him in alive would be ideal, if you can manage it. What do you think?"

Angel sits quietly a thoughtful look on her face as she ponders both the question and the situation.

"I once wore the same Uniform as you, and if it wasn't for people like him" The doesnt say who, leaving that statement unsaid she continues. "If not for people like him I still would. I... We... came to you, what reason would we have to leave?" She explains quite firmly, "I have no intention of killing a man who could be innocent, and his only crime is being of the wrong religion."

"He wil return alive, if we are able. As I said, while we are away there will be NO Cruxfictions, do you agree?" Placing her hands on the table she regards him intently.
" Kid never learned to clear a room. Doors and corners, I told him. Doors and corners."

"What reason do you have to leave? If I were you, I would be looking for any opportunity to get out of here. Quicksilver there," he gestures toward Liri, "has already irritated him. If I know him, he will be looking for some excuse to put her to the question before long. Given the choice, I would quit this place and never look back.

"And if it were my choice there would have been no crucifixions in the first place. They have their purpose, but in this case they are just excessive. But Haro will do what he will.
"Maybe you can get back before this one dies and Haro nails up another."

"He would need to go through me first." Angel says with more force than she intended. "Liriodendra Is a Guest, she should be treated with the respect one of her station deserves." Angel reinforces the point and nods slowly, "We leave at first light, questioning those who returned would be worthless, so we wil head out. Can you ensure we are suitably equiped and provisioned for a week in the wild? Who knows what we might find."

"Before we go, may I speak to Master Fraso? He might have some suggestions to achieve this task... Plus we have a few loose ends to tie up" She didn't mention he owed them money, that would matter to Egg and the others.
" Kid never learned to clear a room. Doors and corners, I told him. Doors and corners."

'More traditional ways... does he mean leaving a hostage behind?' Galanis thinks to himself ready to suggest they can leave property as 'Hostage' but waits to see what will be the answer to Angel.

Tanulan seems more amused by Angel's declaration than anything else. "Fraso is a guest. The rest of you are hirelings. But Liriodendra is a legionnaire. That comes with its own headaches - chain of command and all that - which might make things a bit convoluted, but we are in an emergency situation here, giving the local commander some fairly sweeping powers. So no one is safe. And you might find Haro a handful, I think.
"But you may certainly speak with Fraso before you depart. And Lucius will direct the quartermaster to provide you with supplies for your excursion, if you give him a list.
"The man currently on gibbet might last another day, two at most. I imagine I can hold Haro off for three days after that, before he nails up another. That gives you four or five days to find Quintus."
"No matter where you go, there you are."

"Thank you, for the understanding and for letting us see Master Fraso, he may have some advice." If she could focus on him for more than a few seconds. "We will ensure we talk to the Quartermaster." Having nothing else to say she waits to see if the others have anything to add.

"I am on leave" Liri declares. "I have to extend that leave, to be sure, but there was no chance for it until now."

"Perhaps it would be best, then, to draw up orders transferring you to my staff. On a temporary basis, of course. That way, you can avoid being considered a deserter. I can speak with my clerk in the morning.
"Give Lucius a list before you retire. I am sure Zelmo will grumble at having to work at night, but you will get your gear."

[OOC] Post a list, folks, in the OOC Chat thread. Bear in mind that this is a Legion unit, and may not have anything out of the ordinary.
(It is a running joke in my tabletop group, whenever this sort of thing comes up, for my players to put bizarre and/or inappropriate things on the list, like firearms and exotic pets.)[/OOC]

[OOC]Unless anyone has anything else to do tonight, I'll jump to the morning and post later today or tomorrow morning. [/OOC]

"it is thoughtful of you to offer that, thank you" Liri says with a short elven bow to Tanulan (instead of a military salute). "I will accept to be part of your staff temporarily."

"You are most kind." Angel responds with sincerity, "Please tell Master Fraso to expect us in the morning." She adds standing when Liri does, "I bid you goodnight." She snaps a salute.

Tanulan returns Angel's salute, but sloppily, and without rising from his chair. "Get some sleep. Tomorrow is a big day. And give Lucius your list before you retire."

[OOC] Add whatever basic equipment you asked for to your sheets - I am sorry, TC, but the suit of plate armor fell over on the space hamster and crushed the little fellow. Then his clan, in retaliation, mounted an attack that blasted the armor to bits. [/OOC]

Morning finds the group waking to the smell of rice porrige and eggs. There are a number of legionnaires in the courtyard, armed and armored as usual, as well as Lucius and another man that the group had not yet met. He is drinking from a steaming cup and sitting on a hand cart laden with gear, and is looking less than enthusastic about being there.
As the group approaches, the older man continues his terse discussion with Lucius, a discussion that ends with him thrusting a sheet of paper into Lucius' hands, taking it back after Lucius signs it. He ends the conversation with: "and I want that cart back, pronto." Apart from giving the group a bit of a side-eye and sizing them up, he makes no effort to acknowledge them.

Once he is out of earshot, Lucius says: "Quartermasters are all the same. Today his issue was that you are not part of this cohort, and thus are not entitled to draw from our stores. He settled on providing salvaged equipment, but it is all serviceable, if a bit scratched and dented."

True to his word, the gear is less than perfect, but solid.

"And I have orders here for you, Liriodendra. These indicate that you are provisionally attached to the LXXXIV for an undetermined period. You will draw pay from our paymaster at your current rank starting today. I will need your mark on three copies, under that of the primus." The documents are straightforward and to the point.

Once Liri has signed the papers, Lucius gives her one copy and keeps the other two. Then says: "The primus is dining with your Master Fraso. Please fill your plates and join them."
"No matter where you go, there you are."
