CH. 17: Poison Curse

Jocelyn, Ouragana, Baeros, Gallath and Drav (Poison Curse, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 12 AM)
Ouragana discreetly slips off her signet ring and puts it in her belt pouch before anyone notices. Jocelyn falls to her knees and stays there, trying to steel her nerves for what is about to come. After a few moments, a man approaches with a contingent of armed marines.

He's just as Jocelyn remembers him. He's a tall man with golden teeth, scars all over his face, a long black jacket and a whip coiled at his side. His black beard is braided and his bandanna is the color of blood. "Well, well," Scourge says, looking down at her. "At long last, Beaumont's murderer kneels before me."

Val and Naras (Undine Community/Sardonx 16th, 6 AM)
With the undine's help, all of the treasure is gathered up, as is Naras' and Shin's unconscious bodies, and the entire group returns to the undine home. There they recover and rest up. Val and Naras are brought to the small alcove with air in it and the undine do their best to make them comfortable. Three days pass.

On the morning of the third day, Naras finally wakes up. She feels sick to her stomach and her wounds are still atrocious. She is surprised to find herself breathing air, and not still in the Ixitxachitl lair. The last thing she remembers was fighting at that strange temple. Now she's back in the airy alcove with Val.

Jocelyn cringes seeing Scourge stand before her. "I didn't kill him," she says defiantly.

"Wow! I feel rough but lots better than dead! How're you, Val? And what happened?" asks Naras.

Scourge suddenly backhands Jocelyn, knocking her down. She tastes blood in her mouth a moment later. "Lying bitch!" he declares. "You killed Ethan, who was like a brother to me...just like you killed my nephew. But you'll pay for your crimes soon enough." He grins, then looks to Sable. "You did good. I knew having a witch on board would come in handy. Who are these lot?" he asks, gesturing to the rest of the party.

"New recruits I picked up in town," Sable replies casually. "They should be adequate replacements for the ones we lost in that last raid."

Val passes with most of the gold and silver,, instead more interested in gems and item.But she will fill her purses
finally wakeng, Val tells Naras the tale, starting at the point she died, then going back to the point where Val said "this might not be wise" with just a hint of "I told you so"

"Well, Val, thank you. It seems I owe you rather a lot. If ever you need any help from me, ask and if it's within my power, you shall have it," responds Naras ernestly. She offers her hand to grasp and shake the half-orc's in the almost universal sign of friendship. "So, are the others recovering ok? And just what treasure and stuff have we got from the lair?"

After a while, Naras makes a move to see if she can find the undine (to reacquaint with her old friend, check on Shin, apologize to Cye and try to make peace with Serenna (including a 'thanks for stabilising me'.)

As Baeros sees Jocelyn being slapped he blurts a cry but quickly changes it to a weird laughter, let it die and blends in the crowd. It seems she is not in immediate danger, although all this situation can explode in any moment. He moves between the pirates and tries to catch Jocelyn eyes hoping she will understand that with the slightest gesture from her that her plans are amiss and she needs help he will do anything to save her.

Ouragana tries to remain impassive, even though all the violence of this day is hard on her. She wonders how she will be able to go on playing the tough one.

Jocelyn sucks in some air between her teeth after she is slapped as if that was going to help with the pain. She uses her forearm to wipe some of the blood off of her mouth before she sits back up. "I don't think I have ever heard of a Priestess of Octhanus lying."

Scourge chuckles darkly. "They say priests of Octhanus can't kill, either. But my dead nephew shows otherwise, don't he?" He grabs Jocelyn by the cheeks with one hand. "Still got some spirit, I see, though. That hasn't changed. We'll see what we can do about that later." He lets her go, then stands again. He gives Baeros a strange look at his weird laugh, but seems to shrug it off. "Sable here will show you to the barracks and give you your assignments. I suggest you get some rest. At first daybreak, we move out. Got a honey of a job waiting for us. Hope you lot are good at fighting, because you'll be seeing some real action. Should make a hell of a first day, if you survive. But we'll all be rich as kings when we're done."

Scourge gestures to his men, who grab Jocelyn and force her to her feet. They all start walking to the captain's cabin. Sable gestures for the others to follow her downstairs, toward the barracks.

Val and Naras (Undine Community/Sardonx 16th, 6 AM)
Naras notices the ring of free action is gone from her finger. However, her belongings are stacked nearby and among them is the ring of fire resistance. Also near her stuff is her share of the treasure. None of the undine are around, but likely they will come to check on the two sooner or later.

(OOC: The complete treasure list was: 220 silver pieces, 121 gold pieces, 44 electrum pieces, 176 platinum pieces, 3 gemstones (a black pearl worth 50 GP, a black pearl worth 500 GP, and a sapphire worth 1000 GP), a golden goblet (worth 200 GP), a Potion of Extra-Healing, and a Potion of Super Heroism (the last two having already been consumed). That all adds up to 2,796 GP worth of treasure, not including the potions. Split five ways fairly, that means everyone would get 559 GP.

If Val wants to steal some of Naras' share while she was unconscious, let me know. But Val already has over 2,200 GP still sitting in the hold of the Bullring and is carrying nearly 1,000 GP on her person, so it's not like she's hurting for coin at this point.

Naras can start praying for new spells. Note, however, it will take 4 hours if you want to fill all of her slots.)

Jocelyn stumbles along with those that are dragging her to the captain's quarters. "You've always wanted to break me," she mutters. It was possible that he could, but she was going to try her best to make sure that didn't happen.

Val will pass on the coin, but does take an interest in the pearls. She will even negotiate donating some gold to the kitty to consolidate to the big one.

Naras says, "Happy to split this stuff five ways? I need to get anything I can back to my temple. It's funding was running dangerously low. But we'll need to be consider exactly how much stuff we can transport."

After discussing with Val, the priestess explains what she's about to do and then settles down to pray for spells. {OOC1: 1.CLW x3, 2.CMW x3, 3.Water Breathing; I think 2 hours?}

{OOC2: Val If you want to nick any of the gems then we can get a value for them and split the balance 5 ways. I'm fine if you want to do that. Naras is interested in treasure for her church, which at one point was threatening to go under for shortage of coin.}

Ouragana follows Sable. "Do you know what the 'honey of a job' is the Captain spoke about?" she asks, trying to sound eager like a new recruit would.

Baeros whispers to Sable, "Any idea how at least one of us can stay close to Jocelyn to protect her?"
