Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
"I want to say a few words to Ismene. Privately. Please." Haahqae is rather suspicious of that look Miriam is giving him, but a direct question deserves an honest answer like this.

Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
"Yeah," Kendra says. "I only have one more day to try to sell that ring that Norris told me about, so I'll do that tomorrow," she explains. "Though, we should talk about what to do if I fail."
Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
"I'm just a bit nervous." Tulbas admits, "And one can't judge himself objectively." During breakfast Tulbas keeps to his own answering Magnus only shortly. After that he clears the table and says, "I'm ready then." he almost gives a weak smile but then the image of Magnus shooting the magic missiles at Raetmal returns to him and it fades even before it started.
======================================================
(OOC: I remember I had the Armor but: 1. I thought it lost effect during the torture by the Belzorites that Tulbas was left with 1hp only. 2. Now it will have better effect (more than 7 HP stored). So therefore was the question.)

Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
Haahqae (Masked Dragon Inn)
Miriam gives him a stoic look of contemplation. Finally, she says, "Make it quick then," and opens the door further to allow him entrance. Ismene is sitting at a desk, going through a book. She seems to have just finished, as she closes it and rubs at her eyes.
Kendra Synclair (2527 Market Street, Greylock's Gorgeous Gems)
"I should be in better health by then," Sadron comments as he sits to wait for breakfast. "I can try and sneak out of the city, the same way I got in. Perhaps I can disappear into the woods for a time. Maybe there are more of my people out there who survived."
Tulbas Erogund (Tower of Wayreth)
"Let's be off then," Magnus says. He closes up the shop and then places his hand on Tulbas' shoulder before beginning his spell. Tulbas knows what to expect this time, so prepares himself. Again, he feels the strange sensation of slowly being pulled apart and then put back together. It's disorienting, but not nearly as much as the last time. His stomach lurches and his head spins a bit, but otherwise he's okay.
When the light clears, he finds himself standing not in the mageware shop, but in another room altogether. It's small and simple with a couple of couches, but nobody else is present. It looks like some kind of waiting room. There's a window overlooking some kind of forest.
"Someone should be along to greet us soon," Magnus says. "They are expecting us."
(OOC: Pretty sure he cast it on himself again, after the torture incident. But if you want to swap it for Burning Hands, that's your call and I'll arrange it.)
Grubnick (Haven Arms)
After completing his bath, he heads to the Haven Arms and asks one of the waitresses about Delharn. "No, haven't seen him since he checked out," she tells him. "But you're like the third person to ask about him since then. He owe people money or something?" she asks.
Ne-Chanz (High Hand Inn, Common area)
Ne-Chanz descends into the common area where the innkeeper gives him a message from Shima. "Off to the temple to get healed. Meet you here and we'll finish what we were doing," it says. So he decides to take a seat by himself at the bar and looks around. The typical soldiers loitering about haven't shown up yet; so far it's just a handful of locals having breakfast. He spots a young man tinkering with a broken lute, an older gentleman reading from a heavy book, a middle-aged woman that is well-dressed and a younger woman wearing animal furs. There is also the innkeeper, of course, the elderly plainswoman who delivered the message.
Shima Longfoot (Temple of Takhisis)
"A permit?" she laughs. "For one job? No. If you want a weapons permit, you'll need to become a full agent of the church. Swear your fealty to us forever, and I'll see you get a permit."

Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
"I'll want to see what this job is about first. But get me my weapons back, please," replies Shima. "Not having a permit for the duration of the job might make it impossible to carry out the job. Just saying."

Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
Just popular I guess. the goblin says. Who else was looking for him? Maybe they've found him by now and I can ask them.
Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
Haahqae enters the room, glancing behind to see if Miriam is giving him the privacy he asked for. "Ismene". Haahqae pauses, to muster courage and to give her time to figure out that he's here to speak to her.
"I've just taken a very dangerous job. I can't tell you much more then that, but I wanted to speak to you before I went, in case I don't return. I wanted you to know that I care about you very much, and I wish you all the best for everything you do."

Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
"What if you get hurt again?" Kendra asks. She goes about making breakfast for the two of them. "Or for that matter, what if I am able to sell the ring?" she asks. "Are you going to stay?"
Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
Tulbas looks through the window. The forest remotely reminds him of his homeland and youth merely five decades ago. With these memories every stress about The Test is gone, even if only for a moment. He gives a small breath out of air and thinks to himself, 'Such beauty. All of it destroyed by the Red Army...' Then he looks around the tower and can't hold himself from thinking that Raetmal had visited here so many times. Maybe the mages he will meet today have known him. In fact it is almost certain the did, and might even know him very well. Maybe they even know that Magnus betrayed him, and murdered him, preparing the city to be conquered by the Army by removing any possible resistance. This meeting might be awkward... He looks around again, now staring at Magnus wandering what does he think about. Now that they came for The Test, does he think back about his own test? Or is he just see it as another insignificant troubling duty that holds him back from his real interests.
While waiting if Magnus doesn't seems occupied in other business Tulbas will ask, "Do you believe they will ever restore the other Towers? Can a graduated mage visit the library of the Tower? What other benefits does have a graduated mage? Besides not dying of course." Again after using humor in his sentence he almost gives a weak smile but eventually finds it impossible.
============================================================================================================
(OOC: I forgot to ask long ago, does Magnus have a familiar? Is it the owl Tulbas saw peeking from the window when Raetmal was unconsious in bed?
About the spells if Tulbas had cast it in the last few days he should have the Armor for 12HP and then have the last slot with Burning Hands. Thanks.)

"Things are bad," Arulia agrees. "I wish I could tell you differently. I know that I've said I'll fix this, and I'll keep trying, but we're up against long odds."
After helping clean up after breakfast, Arulia bunles up against the cold and heads out. Having last seen Haahqae at the High Hand, she figures that the inn is a good place to start looking and sets out for it.

Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
Haahqae (Masked Dragon Inn, Ismene's room)
With some reluctance, Miriam steps outside to wait.
Ismene seems surprised by Haahqae's declaration. "Oh...uh...thanks," she says nervously. "Um...are your friends helping you with this job?"
Kendra Synclair (2527 Market Street, Greylock's Gorgeous Gems)
"Isn't it dangerous for me to stay?" he asks. "For both of us? I don't want to endanger you any more than I already have."
Tulbas Erogund (Tower of Wayreth, Waiting room)
Magnus shrugs. "Perhaps they will restore the others, or build new ones someday. As it stands now, there aren't really enough of us to justify the resources needed to do that. The Tower in Palanthas still stands, but is cursed and nobody can enter it. I wouldn't mind being able to take a peek in there someday. And yes, the library and laboratories of this tower are open to all members of any order. In addition, each order has its own secrets that it shares with its members and your power will wax and wane with the moons."
Just then, the door swings open and a woman in white robes enters. She has long red hair, blue eyes and her face is freckled. She bows and says, "Welcome Magi and apprentice to the Tower of Wayreth." When she looks back up, she sees Tulbas' face and, in shock, points at him and says, "You!" Tulbas remembers her--Daxia, the half-elven woman he turned over to the Ergothians, then subsequently rescued from them.
(OOC: You did ask that before. No, Magnus doesn't have a familiar. The owl was actually for something else entirely.)
Arulia Seroth (High Hand Inn, Common room)
Arulia heads to the High Hand Inn. In the common room, the typical soldiers loitering about haven't shown up yet; so far it's just a handful of locals having breakfast. She spots the young man who hit on her a few weeks back, still tinkering with a broken lute, an older gentleman reading from a heavy book, a middle-aged woman that is well-dressed and a younger woman wearing animal furs. There is also the innkeeper, of course, the elderly plainswoman. She also sees the white minotaur, Ne-Chanz, sitting at the bar alone. There is no sign of Haahqae, though.
Grubnick (Haven Arms, Common room)
"The first one was a soldier, a woman," the waitress says. "The second one were actually two women, but neither were soldiers that I could tell. They were dressed as trappers or furriers, perhaps."
Shima Longfoot (Temple of Takhisis)
"Something might be able to be arranged," the high priestess replies cryptically. "As for the job, as I told you before, we need someone eliminated--a threat to the church. Normally we'd dispatch our own assassins, but this is a special case and plausible deniability is required. That said, if you are caught, we will disavow any connection with you. Are you in?"

Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
"Once I have my weapons back and some sort of document stating that they're mine and I'm fully healed, yes," replies Shima.
Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
"No." Haahqae stands speechless for a second. He's answered the question, but he feels like he should say more. The problem is that her question wasn't what he had expected, and he felt totally unprepared to answer it. How much should he tell her?
"I uh... I've had some bad experiences with people recently. Maniacs trying to kill me in the giants lair, thieves stealing from the group in the cultists base. Most people were fine, and you were always good, but enough had gone wrong on these missions that I thought that I should look for jobs that I could do without dragging a bunch of people into it. That's why I put on a show. I'm a good juggler and I could do nearly all the work for it on my own. That's also why I took this job. It's something I can do alone."
"I am... very good at not being seen when I don't want to be. Tulbas isn't so good at that. Greggedin went and got himself arrested for doing something extremely stupid, and I lost contact with most of the rest of the group that I had my earlier adventures with."
"Now I'm probably boring you and Miriam's probably getting annoyed me taking so long. I'm sorry I didn't mean to prattle on like that. I can leave now if you want."

Re: CH. 12: Testing Grounds
A soldier? What did she look like? And the other girls? He must be a popular fellow with three women looking for him, the goblin jests. Grubnick describes Yvette and Xyleena. Any idea where I could find them?
