Naras returns to her two companions and says, "There are two of them, both males, an elf and a human, across a bridge to the right. I will try and get there and engage the human. You concentrate sling bullets on the half-elf. When I get there, fire at the easiest target. Ready?" When Pearl and Leena indicate they are ready, the dwarf grips her spear with both hands and advances to try and cross the bridge to the engage the two foes to the right.
If the males don't see her coming, Naras will try to close to melee and stick her new spear into the nearest foe, but preferably the human if there's not much in it distance-wise.
Naras thinks to herself, "It is self defence, just prophylactic.~

Naras marches across the bridge, her heavy armor clanking with each step. The two men immediately hear her and draw their weapons. "An intruder!" calls the human. His eyes narrow when he sees her vestments. "A Gontorian! Kill her!"

Naras makes it to the stairs before the two men engage with her, which lets her effectively block them from coming up the bridge. Pearl tosses out a stone and Leena slings one, but both of them miss.

The two men swing their maces at Naras, but her armor protects her from both hits. "You're going to regret coming down here!" taunts the half-elf.

========

Initiative
Naras (1d10+5): 3+5 = 7
Leena (1d10+6): 9+6 = 15

Half-Elf Fighter (1d10+7): 6+7 = 13

Round 1!

Naras moves 25 feet west and then turns and moves 5 feet north, up the stairs. She doesn't have enough move left to attack.
Pearl moves 20 feet west and then throws a stone at Half-Elf Fighter at short range with great aim (+1 hit) and halfling accuracy (+1 hit) from higher ground (+1 hit) [TN 14] (1d20+3): 3+3 = 6, miss.
Human Fighter moves 5 feet south and swings his mace with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) against her banded mail (-1 hit) [TN 16] (1d20): 7, miss.
Half-Elf Fighter moves 5 feet southwest and swings his mace with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) against her banded mail (-1 hit) [TN 16] (1d20): 15, miss.
Leena moves 10 feet west and slings a stone at Half-Elf Fighter at short range from higher ground (+1 hit) [TN 14] (1d20+1): 5+1 = 6, miss.

Naras tries to impale the human.
Presumably Pearl & Leena try another round of missile attacks.

Re: Naras' Vignette

Naras manages to stab the human in the shoulder, but it's not a very deep wound--his armor absorbs most of it. The human retaliates with two swings of his mace, but again Naras' armor blocks the attacks. The half-elf manages to get a swing in, too, but he doesn't have any better luck.

An assault of stones comes down from the bridge at the half-elf. One misses, but the other two both clobber him. He drops to the ground, his head bleeding profusely.

========

Initiative
Naras (1d10+5): 5+5 = 10
Leena (1d10+6): 10+6 = 16
Pearl (1d10+2): 8+2 = 10
Human Fighter (1d10+7): 5+7 = 12
Half-Elf Fighter (1d10+7): 10+7 = 17

Round 2!

Naras stabs her magical spear (+1 hit/+2 dmg) at Human Fighter in hide armor (+2 hit) from upper ground (+1 hit) [TN 13] (1d20+4): 12+4 = 16, hit for (1d8+2): 1+2 = 3 damage. Human Fighter is moderately wounded.
Pearl throws a stone at Half-Elf Fighter at short range with great aim (+1 hit) and halfling accuracy (+1 hit) from higher ground (+1 hit) [TN 14] (1d20+3): 8+3 = 11, miss.
Human Fighter swings his mace with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) against her banded mail (-1 hit) [TN 16] (1d20): 13, miss.
Leena slings a stone at Half-Elf Fighter at short range from higher ground (+1 hit) [TN 14] (1d20+1): 19+1 = 20, hit for (1d4+1): 4+1 = 5 damage. Half-Elf Fighter is now seriously wounded.
Half-Elf Fighter swings his mace with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) against her banded mail (-1 hit) [TN 16] (1d20): 2, miss.
Pearl throws a stone at Half-Elf Fighter at short range with great aim (+1 hit) and halfling accuracy (+1 hit) from higher ground (+1 hit) [TN 14] (1d20+3): 15+3 = 18, hit for (1d4+1): 4+1 = 5 damage. Half-Elf Fighter falls.
Human Fighter swings his mace with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) against her banded mail (-1 hit) [TN 16] (1d20): 4, miss.
Half-Elf Fighter is down.

(OOC: Leena has Command, Combine, Bless and CLW memorized. Pearl has Sleep memorized.

The buckler does provide a bonus, but only from one frontal attack per round.

"Pearl, go check the the other side of the bridge," Naras calls out. "Leena, keep an eye on the south. I'll handle this last one!" Naras calls out.

The two women do as they are told, while Naras takes another hit from the mace which is absorbed entirely into her armor. She then stabs the human in the neck, ending his life. He staggers and falls to the ground next to his companion and the cavern is silent again, save for the sound of running water.

========

Initiative
Naras (1d10+5): 10+5 = 15
Leena (1d10): 6
Pearl (1d10): 3

Naras pats down the two fallen while her two companions have a look to the south and west of the chamber.
When done she examines the sleeping area for anything interesting.

If not already done by this point, the dwarf recovers sling bullets.
She gives the bullets back to her two companions. quietly saying, "Here, have these back. So what have you seen or discovered?"

OOC: Anything in the wood pile? And how much is a patch of the white mushrooms worth approximately?

Naras searches the human and finds aside from his mace, small shield and hide armor, he is carrying 9 gold coins and a single lockpick. The half-elf has a mace, hide armor, a raw carrot, 2 gold coins, a bottle of mead, and two lockpicks.

The sleeping area contains two sleeping rolls in the northwest section. There is a campfire and a couple of cooking pots. One has a few mushrooms in it, but the other is empty. The pile of lumber has a pick axe leaning against it. There are two patches of mushrooms and a vein of iron ore. The mushrooms are worth about 2 coppers each.

She finds most of the bullets and gathers them up, returning them to the others.
Naras wrote:"So what have you seen or discovered?"
"Nothing," Leena says. "But I think there's a torch on the other side, I see some light."

"Another tunnel," Pearl answers. "Looks like it turns south after awhile."

Namas puts the two maces and pick-axe behind the woodpile whilst setting Leena to the task of gathering the edible mushrooms, "We'll need to eat later."
Pearl remains on lookout.
After stowing the 11 gold coins, bottle of mead and 3 lock picks & small shield on her body, the dwarf drags the human to a sleeping roll and covers it up with a prayer for the fallen misguided. She then does the same with the half elf and the other bedroll.
Pausing for breath, the kohen gives two of the pock picks to the others, (one each) and offers the small shield to either of them.
***
If neither wants the small shield, Naras will hang it on her back.
Having given the other pair a few minutes of rest, the dwarf gathers her companions and says, "So, looks like we have a bridge to the south and a bridge to the west, correct? And one lever within our reach, yes? Well, unless you have any suggestions as to how we get across, as I don't do swimming, I'm planning on pulling the lever to see what it does. Thoughts please, ladies?"
***
If nothing promising is voiced, Naras will pull the lever (with the others 20' away in case its trapped.)

Leena gathers up all of the mushrooms from the campsite, which totals up to about 20 mushrooms. "They seem to be living here full time," she notes. "They are chopping wood outside and bringing it in to burn and build things. And they are growing their own food, even."

Leena has her own small shield already which is of better quality and Pearl has no use for it (bards cannot use shields).

The lever, however, is NOT within easy reach. It's on a balcony built up above the water. It looks like the only way to reach it would be to go further into the mine and find a way up there.

The tunnel extends until it reaches an intersection, at the middle of which is another big vein of iron ore. To the north is a narrow tunnel that leads to a cave-in. At the very end, it looks like a dwarven skeleton is half-buried there with a few items around him.

The tunnel to the south leads to a small room. There's a table to the south with a chair next to it. On the table are a tankard and a wooden bowl, both empty. To the north is a burning brazier, a barrel and a shelf. On the shelf are an empty bucket and a bottle of wine. The lever is on the balcony next to the brazier, now within easy access.

=============

Leena adds 20 mushrooms and a lockpick to her pack.
Pearl adds a lockpick to her pack.
Naras adds 11 GP and a lockpick to her belt pouch and the bottle of mead and small shield in her pack.

Treasure Pool: 14 GP, 1 small red gemstone

(OOC: The lockpicks are negligible in weight. Leena is in light encumbrance, almost to moderate encumbrance. Pearl is fine. Naras is on the very edge of entering light encumbrance.)

Naras says "Wait here, please", and goes to look at goes to look at the dwarf.
She studies the area first to check if it's safe.
If safe, she goes and sees what is scattered around him, and if he could be easily pulled out and buried.
***
She nods to the others, "Ready?" and pulls the lever.
***
If the lever lowers the missing bit of bridge as hoped, the group venture across the bridge.

Naras goes by herself to investigate the skeleton. As someone with some mining experience, it's clear that this shaft is not safe. There isn't near enough support. Digging around a little, she finds a coin purse and a very old, tattered journal. Trying to move the skeleton will most likely insure she is buried beside him, though.

The dwarf takes the journal and coinpurse and steps out of the unsafe area before opening them.
She counts the coins and checks the journal for a title, before stowing them away.
Realising that she is starting to carry a bit too much, Naras gets out a pair of pitons and the standard rations and asks, "Pearl would you mind carrying these, please, if they won't slow you down?"
After transferring the items that Pearl accepts, the kohen nods to the others, "Ready?" and pulls the lever.
Assuming the lever lowers the missing bit of bridge, the group retrace their steps ready to cross the bridge top the south.
With a "Just a few seconds," Naras leaves the small shield behind the log pile (with the maces and pick-axe) and then leads the party across the southern bridge, continuing until they encounter something of interest.

The coin purse contains 7 GP in it. The journal has no title on it, it looks to be a personal journal of the dead miner. It is written in dwarven.

"What am I now, your personal mule?" complains Pearl when asked to carry more of Naras' stuff. "Fine, but if I lose anything, I don't take any responsibility for it."

Naras then throws the switch. As expected, this causes the drawbridge to drop down, rather noisily. The path is clear. Before she can circle around or dump the shield, however, she hears voices. "Who let down the bridge?" calls one male voice. Two men, both in hide armor, begin crossing the bridge. One is human, wielding a two-handed sword. The other is a halfling carrying a long sword (but using both hands). They immediately see the women standing over by the switch. "Intruders! Get them!"

Naras whips out her old spear and, from the vantage of the balcony, throws it at the human male, if in sight, but the male halfling otherwise.
The dwarf then returns to the others, pointing to the west, and says, "Two foes advancing, use missiles against the human male."
She pulls out her new (magical) spear, grips it two handed, and advances 10' in front of her companions ready to intercept incoming foes.
