Once she can see again, Ouragana uses the chains in the room to cast a small web between them, right in the direction of the kyton's movement so that he hopefully traps himself in the webbing.

Acting quickly, Val takes out the silver piece Ouragana enchanted and holds it aloft, illuminating the hallway and most of the laboratory--only the back wall where the planetar is remains dark.

Able to see again, Jocelyn starts to back away from the kyton before its powers return to it. Thaddeus, now able to see his target, points his wand again and cries, "Adflatus!" Two beams of energy shoot from the wand, arc around Drav, Jocelyn and Brock, then slam into the kyton with concussive force.

Ouragana then follows up by casting Web, using two groupings of chains as anchors to encompass the kyton. However, Baeros also gets ensnared in the process. But although an imperfect solution, it at least keeps the kyton in one spot, allowing the party to freely explore the room at their leisure.

Or so she would have thought. The party learns with horror that the kyton or 'chain devil' does not need to have free movement to attack. The chains in the room move at his command, and one lashes out at both Ouragana and Jocelyn. Both are hit, leaving small welts on their bodies but not any serious damage. What's more, the Kyton begins to regenerate, the wounds from the magic missiles healing quickly.

"Damn it, how am I supposed to fight it if it's trapped up in this goop?!" demands Brock, frustrated that he cannot reach his opponent.

============

Initiative
Jocelyn (1d10): 4
Ouragana (1d10+2): 6+2 = 8
Val (1d10): 2
Baeros (1d10+3+1): 5+3+1 = 9
Gallath (N/A)
Granite (N/A)
Drav (N/A)
Brock (1d10+7+1): 4+7+1 = 12
Thaddeus (1d10+3): 3+3 = 6
Kyton (1d10+3): 7+3 =10

Round 2!

Gallath does nothing.
Granite does nothing.
Drav does nothing.
Val draws out the eternally bright silver piece, creating a radius of 60 feet of light.
Jocelyn backs up five feet to the southeast.
Thaddeus fires two magical missiles from his wand at the kyton. The kyton resists [TN 25%] (1d100): 33, fail. He takes (2d4+2): 7+2 = 9 damage. Kyton is now moderately wounded.
Ouragana casts Web, entrapping the kyton and Baeros for 100 rounds.
----Kyton resists [TN 25%] (1d100): 44, fail. He saves vs. spell [TN 13] (1d20-2): 14-2 = 12, fail. Kyton is trapped.
----Baeros saves vs. spell [TN 14] (1d20-2): 4-2 = 2, fail. Baeros is trapped.
Baeros is trapped in the webbing. Baeros is no longer shocked.
Kyton controls chains to attack Ouragana [TN 4] (1d20): 9, hit for (1d10): 1 damage. It then controls chains to attack Jocelyn [TN 5] (1d20): 18, hit for (1d10): 2 damage. Kyton regenerates.
Brock cannot attack as the Kyton is in webbing.

(OOC: The spell description for Web specifies that the webbing must be at least 10 feet thick, which is why it trapped Baeros as he was too close to it. He has a STR of 17, so he can try to escape the webbing at a rate of 1 foot per round, so it will take him 5 rounds to move west or north or 10 rounds to move east or south.)

"Keep an eye on those chains, and try to defend me from them," Jocelyn says. She looks annoyed at this point as she starts to cast Detect Magic.

Val moves into the room at full defense against the chains. She looks around for a mace, or the so-called anchor

"Wha... Damn woman!" Baeros tries to say as his face and apparently his whole body is covered with sticky web. It brings back memories of the journey in the jungle when he tried to save Hopper's bleeding mom from the web of the monstrous bugs. Instinctively he tries to move his hand to remove the web from his face and with great surprise he realizes he can actually move but very slowly and with great effort. Straining his muscles he starts to move northward as he believes he can see between the web lines that it is the shortest way out of the mess.

===================================
(OOC: Baeros would try to move north and then free the planetar. In 5 rounds...
Is it possible to advance toward the demon and slowly shove the sword to his brain, as he doesn't move?)

Thaddeus lowers his wand, the webbing now blocking any magic missiles he might fire toward it. He looks around frantically, not sure what to do.

Granite peers into the room, hoping to catch a glimpse of the dimensional anchor. He has no idea what one looks like, and the imp had told them the anchor was in the vault, not the lab, but he looks anyway. Sadly, he doesn't see anything that might be such a device, but there are turned over desks blocking his view point in certain areas.

Val shoves her way past Granite and Gallath, entering the room and then looking for a mace or an anchor. Like Granite, however, she doesn't see either of those things. However, by bringing the bright coin into the room, the entire lab is now fully illuminated, and the chained up planetar is visible again as a result.

Ouragana climbs over, under and pushes her way through the jungle of chains to reach the back of the room where the planetar is chained up. She does not stir, and looks dead as far as the mage can tell, but her terrible wounds are very slowly healing before her eyes. The mage also realizes that the kyton's influence seems to have a limit. The chains in the back of the room are not shaking or moving about. She might be safe here from further attacks.

The kyton, unable to reach Ouragana, turns to Brock instead. The chains smack the dwarf in the shoulder, causing him to curse in his native language. Another chain whips toward Jocelyn. Brock tries to get there in time to stop it, but his limp slows him down too much. Luck is with the cleric, though. The chain misses, and she's able to finish her prayer uninterrupted.

Baeros starts to slowly move northward, pushing through the thick webbing with his great strength. However, he notices the kyton is doing the same thing, but heading east. Apparently it is at least as strong as the ranger! Furthermore, its wounds continue to heal.

Brock, stumbling over the chains, manages to get into position to protect Jocelyn, ready to throw himself in front of her to take any hits form the chains with his own body, if necessary.

Jocelyn finally finishes the very lengthy prayer. Her eyes suddenly glow with a soft blue light, allowing her to see magical auras if she concentrates and does nothing else. Directly ahead of her, she sees Ouragana lit up with power--her shawl (Protection), her bracelet (Guardian), her spellbook (Divination) and a second book in her pack (Summoning).

============

Initiative
Jocelyn (1d10+10): 7+10 = 17
Ouragana (1d10): 5
Val (1d10+3): 1+3 = 4
Baeros (1d10): 9
Gallath (N/A)
Granite (1d10): 1
Drav (N/A)
Brock (1d10+1): 9+1 = 10
Thaddeus (N/A)
Kyton (1d10+3): 4+3 = 7

Round 3!

Gallath does nothing. He is no longer shocked.
Drav does nothing.
Thaddeus does nothing.
Granite peers into the room.
Val moves 10 feet north and 5 feet west. She goes into full defense (+3 AC) and scans the area.
Ouragana moves 20 feet north and 5 feet west.
Kyton controls chains to attack Brock [TN 9] (1d20): 17, hit for (1d10): 3 damage. Brock is now moderately wounded. It then controls chains to attack Jocelyn [TN 5] (1d20): 2, miss. Kyton regenerates and moves 1 foot east. It will escape in 4 rounds.
Baeros moves 1 foot north. He will escape in 4 rounds.
Brock prepares to defend Jocelyn from the chains. He adds his AC to hers and will take damage in her stead.
Jocelyn casts Detect Magic. She has a chance to determine the sphere of any magic detected [TN 60%] (1d100): 56, pass. She can detect magic and its sphere for 10 rounds.

(OOC: It is possible to move toward the devil, but Baeros' sword won't be able to pierce its skin, much less its brain, as it is not magical.

Jocelyn can scan the room in a 60 degree arc each round. Let me know which direction she is turning toward.

Knowing that Brock is protecting her at this point, Jocelyn turns towards the right in hopes of finding the magical items that she needs.

Baeros keeps moving north and try to tell the others if the web allows, "Be careful, he tries to escape. Use the opportunity to find what we came for! Jocelyn, get farther from the demon. Brock, instead of wasting time go help Ouragana free the angel."

Ouragana looks carefully at the chains holding the planetar, trying to figure out how they might be loosened. A thought crosses her mind: It would be very much like an evil person to keep the keys just outside the reach of the victim, so she looks around. "We're here to free you" she tells the angel softly in all the languages she knows.

Brock does not respond to Baeros' command, other than to flash the webbed ranger a rude gesture. Then he goes back to trying to protect Jocelyn.

Jocelyn slowly turns to the east, concentrating on finding any magical auras. She senses two of them. The first is in the far northeast corner of the room (Combat sphere) and the other is between the two overturned tables (Protection sphere). She senses nothing else on the east side of the room.

Baeros and the kyton continue to struggle against the webs, and make a little more progress in escaping. The kyton continues controlling the chains, causing a rather large one to strike Brock in the head. The dwarf tumbles to the ground, fighting to stay conscious. While he's down, another chain strikes Jocelyn in the stomach so hard, she spits up a bit of blood. Brock gets to his feet again, cursing himself for not being quick enough to stop it.

Granite leaves the room, returning to the darkness. Luckily his infravision lets him see just fine. He returns to the library to speak with the imp, Kaakos. But nobody is there. The imp is no longer present.

It takes Ouragana a few moments to repeat the phrase in five different languages. The planetar does not respond or even react at all, but still seems dead to the world. There is no key nearby, but no locks, either. The chains are simply wrapped around the celestial tightly, the way a rope might be.

Val looks to the left, still holding the shining coin aloft so the others can see. She spots something white catch the light in the far southwestern corner of the room, surrounded by broken glass.

Dahn returns to his previous position and tries to use an illusion cantrip to apply a chameleon like quality to his clothing.
"Stupid demons." He grumbles.
Afterwards, he will attempt to sneak into the room unnoticed.
(OOC: I had forgotten, but the initial reason had Dahn dressed all in grey when I created him was that I planned on him using cantrips on his clothes on a regular basis.)
