Re: Pyros Litehand (Nocturno) - Private Thread
Drawing his dagger, the kender creeps silently into the hallway, crouching low near the wall to keep out of sight. His breath is a little ragged, but his training keeps the sound from carrying. As he rounds the doorway, the hall takes on an eerie look. Long shadows cast by the glass-shielded candle ripple and stretch across the floor, and odd shapes dance along the walls. He soon discovers the light source sitting on the ground a few feet from the door; the shaped glass giving the shadows their odd appearance.
Standing on tiptoe by the entrance is Elsa, her back turned and cowl raised so he cannot even see her hair. She appears to be looking through a small metal grate in the thick door to the outside, having slid back a reinforced plate. He is about to call out to her when it dawns on him that something is wrong. Her shield, turned sideways hides her left hand, and the flowing robes hide her right. No part of her skin shows from this angle, though a wisp of blonde peeks out from one side of the hood… it looks coarser than normal… almost like fur… Of course, that could just be the shadows playing tricks…

Pyros will let out a small psst. Expecting that she will not know he is there. He does not want to make noise to attract unwanted attention.

Her head whips around, and distorted features face him. She lowers herself from the window and the face now looks long and gaunt in the odd candlelight. She holds a finger to her lips, indicating silence; her mace hanging from a loop on her wrist. Motioning for him to come closer and peer out the tiny window she mouths the words 'something out there' before turning back to look through the door.
The distortion of her features was probably just a mixture of the moonlight and candlelight... probably...

[OoC: Perception a Wis check? I've been playing Shadowrun too much to remember.]
Pyros will feel his skin crawl a bit, but he will heed the warning and keep his silence.
If the wait becomes longer than a couple minutes he will start to get antsy.
Also I want to try a detect noise for outside, maybe identifying what is out there, or get a guess.

[OoC: So much for that lol]

[Ooc: Yeah, wisdom checks are sometimes used for that. She did motion for you to come closer and look out the window.]
Uncertain, Pyros studies her hand, now visible past the robes. It looks normal from here...

[OoC: Well I missed that apparently...]
Pyros will go take a peek. Looking for anything odd or moving, and will listen intently.

Re: Pyros Litehand (Nocturno) - Private Thread
Moving through the dim, the Kender reaches the door. Elsa moves aside, and he uses the iron bar and handle to lever himself up so that he can see. A thick mist layers the ground, with a few of the purple flowers near the entrance being the only thing visible in the bluish moonlight that washed over everything rather brightly.
He strained his eyes and ears to catch any sign of what made the noise. A figure moved rapidly through the fog. It was difficult to determine its shape, but it seemed to be pacing back and forth in front of the tower. Twin golden eyes the size of saucers gazed at him from the mist, and a low growl echoed oddly in the moist air. The eyes held him a long moment, then disappeared into the fog.
It's been out there for a half hour now. Elsa whispered hoarsely.

He will watch a moment longer.
If he can determine if this creature seems unnatural, or is going to attack their position, he will try to scare it away with a shot from his hoopak.
Pyros will try to determine if he can get a shot out of the window with his hoopak, or if there are any other openings he can use.

Re: Pyros Litehand (Nocturno) - Private Thread
Since he can't see the creature clearly, it is difficult to determine if it is unnatural or not. The eyes reminded him of a wolf's, somehow; but the creature would have to be nearly the size of a draft horse to have that height... He watches a little longer, but the thing makes no further passes nor noise. It seems to have gone on search of other prey, tonight.
Inspecting the grate in the opening, it would have to be a career-shot to put a stone through... and even then the target would have to be directly in-line with the door and likely not more than a few feet away. Perhaps there had been arrow-slits and the like on the second floor; but, alas, the other stories were but rubble now.
What did you see? Elsa asks in a hushed tone.

He will reply also in a hushed tone "Something big, something too big for what it is. It reminded me of a wolf, but it is 3 or 4 times larger than any wolf I have seen."

Re: Pyros Litehand (Nocturno) - Private Thread
It never came out where I could see it... she whispered. Never even got close to the tower, like it wanted to but something was keeping it away... Is it still there? When Pyros reveals that it is gone (presumably) she lets out a sigh of relief. Well, nothing could get through that door, it's almost a foot thick! I'm gonna try and get some sleep, or else I won't have the strength for my healing tomorrow... With that, she heads back into the kitchen.
Re: Pyros Litehand (Nocturno) - Private Thread
Pyros nods in agreement, about the door and the sleep.
He will think about the creature for a bit before getting back to sleep. "See you in the morning." he will say while covering a yawn.
[OoC:Good thing I made it here!]

Re: Pyros Litehand (Nocturno) - Private Thread
[OOC: yeah, that would not have been a pleasant encounter alone outdoors...]
Shutting the tiny window, Pyros dropped down from his vantage point. He takes the candle back to the kitchen and settles down for the night.
The remainder of the evening passed uneventfully, though his dreams were unsettling. The smells of porridge, egg and sausage woke him, and the nightmares scattered into nothingness like so many sparks from a crackling fire. The two had a pleasant repast, and prepared to get underway.
There was a tense moment at the door, but checking the window revealed no lurking dangers. As they exited the fresh, chill air gave them shivers, but a bright sun promised some warmth in the cloudless sky. A deep breath and a giggle from Elsa dispelled the uneasiness of the night before. Teasing the flowers with her hand, she plucked a purple blossom and stuck it behind her ear. With a broad grin at Pyros she turned eastward, towards the rising sun.
A thinning bank of mist clung to the river in lower places and the early morning forest took on the pleasant look it had the day before. Shall we? Elsa asked, her shield strapped across the back of her pack with the mace swinging from a loop at her side

Pyros will follow with a spring in his step. He will glance around for tracks. Not knowing what to really look for.
He will let Elsa take the lead.
[OoC:I'm going to take getting any xp for rp as i am holding up my end.]

Re: Pyros Litehand (Nocturno) - Private Thread
[Ooc: quite so
Staying true to the character is the main thing I look for in Rp, that and participation of course. Even if a character isn’t much of a talker, internal monologue/reasoning/hashing things out is an easy enough way to do so. So far ‘Kender as Kender can be’ seems aptly portrayed to me ☺ Besides, you put a lot of time and quirks in at camp, not to mention several NWP skill-checks ]
Just before leaving the tower behind, Pyros looks over the area outside. There are some areas of trampled grass, particularly in a path back and forth in front of the tower. It also looks as if something may have circled the place a couple of times. It seems that the creature never actually approached the tower itself, but kept it’s distance beyond the brambles and flowers.
The day wears on, and Elsa begins to chat a bit. The Kender learns a few more things about her. Apparently she is one of seven children, right in the middle, and has always had a knack for patching up strays. She has a vast knowledge of healing, both mundane and magical, and knows her herbs very well; knowledge which she puts to good use in her healing and her favorite hobby of cooking. She asks about him, his family and hobbies, and he answers as he wishes.
A couple hours after setting out she breaks out more berries and nuts for a snack, and then just about noon she comes up with what she calls a ‘travel pocket’. It turns out to be a folded pouch of unleavened bread, tucked under on both sides so it doesn’t spill. It almost looks like a rectangular meat-pie, and is filled with the stew from last night which had congealed a bit but was super tasty! I came up with these myself, she says around a mouthful of rabbit. I forget where, but I had been walking a lot and still had a long ways to go and couldn’t stop to eat… She takes another big bite and chews for a bit before continuing, anyway, the stew has such a great medley of flavors when it’s cold! It’s so different from hot stew but it’s really yummy don’t you thi…
Arooooooooo!
Somewhere behind, a howl pierced the relative calm. The sound was close, perhaps just behind the tree-line and not more than 100 yards behind them; but probably closer. Just like yesterday… Restrained anxiety shone in those delicate brown eyes.
[Pyros inspects the area. Wis check: 1d20=1: Pass with flying colors! He notices several things.
OOC: Nice to get that 1 out of the way when it can be useful
good thing you weren’t in combat
