Using his self-made lockpicks, Drav kneels by the door and begins working on the lock. After a few moments, there's an audible click as he succeeds in unlocking the door. The spikes retract on their own.

=========

Drav makes an Open Locks check [70] (1d100): 55, pass.

"Ah, finally!" Dahn pipes in. "I know it was only a matter of minutes, but it almost feels like we've spent weeks at this door."

"All right, the trap is gone and the door is unlocked. Baeros, go first," Jocelyn says.

Baeros looks at Jocelyn surprised and confused for a moment, but then smiles, "Aye aye captain. You should stand back a few steps so you don't get in the range of the blast if there is one." Baeros approaches the door. He pushes it forward with his long sword. If nothing explodes he peers in. If there is no light he would ask Ouragana to throw a lighten coin to him so he can see if there is something dangerous there. And if he sees nothing he will carefully step in, praying to Crizza to defend him so that they can find the canon and win the battle with the pirates and then maybe continue and use the canon against the League.

Ouragana hands her coin over to Bearos if he asks for it.

Baeros turns the handle and pushes the door open with his blade, revealing a very dark hallway stretching west to east, similar to the one on the first floor. It is very dark within. Despite having eternally bright arrows, he asks Ouragana for her coin and holds it aloft, illuminating a fair amount of the hall. He finds the hall looks fairly pristine. There is no dust anywhere. The walls are adorned with paintings that have faded but still in one piece. A series of suits of armor stand along the hall, going down in both directions.

Directly across the hall is a nook. On the wall of that nook is a strange black and white checkerboard. There are four holes in the checkerboard, seemingly at random. The holes are about as wide as a person's finger.

There doesn't seem to be any sign of anyone so far. It appears there are more doors further down the hall on both sides.

Jocelyn follows after Baeros. "What is that?" she asks, pointing to the nook in front of them.

Ouragana follows Bearos and Jocelyn. "It looks like a game board, but why would one hang it on the wall? Perhaps it was to remind the wyvern's servants that they are his pawsn, that they don't matter." She squints at the holes. "Are those holes big enough for arrows or darts?" she asks.

"It's probably another trap." Baeros mutters. "Anyone in a mood for a game with the Wyvern?" He scowls.

Closer examination of the four holes reveals that a dart, bolt or arrow could fit inside them.

Thaddeus rubs his chin. "If it is a trap, it's a rather obvious one. Aren't traps supposed to be hidden or at least more subtle?" he asks.

Brock shrugs. "Not always. Sometimes hiding in plain sight is the best way to go. Sometimes they want you to think it's too obvious, so you lower your guard. I remember one time, in my youth, we were exploring this one dungeon...and we came upon this empty room. Nothing in it at all, but for some words painted on the wall. They said, 'Don't overthink it.'" He chuckles. "Goes without saying, we spent over a day in that room trying to figure out what it meant. Never did find out. To this day, I think it was just a big mind screw."

"Maybe there are pieces that go in there from the other rooms. I say we wait on the nook 'til later, it might become obvious." Val offers.

"All right," Jocelyn says. She didn't like ignoring the thing right in front of her, but right now she didn't have a clue as to what it was. "Let's go right."

"Maybe they're just peepholes" Ouragana muses as she follows Jocelyn. Childishly, she sticks out her tongue at them.
