WotL OOC Thread

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Tulbas also thought last night that they can ask Nora if they heard about the giant attacking refugees. If the cult will help the refugees they might gain A LOT of recruitment. Also what are the plans to free Darewind, now that they got the ransom for Daxia.

I only now discovered that Tulbas is immune to 1st level illusions. Does that mean that the cantrips Haaque used as pocketdoors and the Audiable glammer don't affect him?
Also, does it mean that he can see them but understand immediately it's not real? (this is my favorite option). Or are they invisible to him? (which makes less sense).

Right, I forgot about that again.

The way it works is that he instantly notices some flaw or error with each illusion that instantly lets him save vs. disbelief and realize they are false. This would only work for cantrips and first level illusions, though.

I do have a phb at home, however I'm overseas this weekend. Do you mind if I look up spells once I'm back on Monday?

Tulbas is assuming Haaque will appear in the morning, since he would like to send him to talk to Nora, but if Haaque will delay and considering the improvement in Raetmal's condition, Tulbas might ask Darga to take care of Raetmal and go himself. He will wait for Haaque until noon.

Not sure how spell learning happens Jaded but I've had a look through and think these four would be a good choice:
Hypnotism
Light
Mending

Spell learning is done with a 1d100. The chance of success is determined by intelligence score. Gregeddin's INT is 15, so that's a 65% chance. I'll go ahead and roll for them.

Hypnotism (1d100): 35, pass.
Light (1d100): 87, fail.
Mending (1d100): 21, pass.
Message (1d100): 27, pass.

Okay, so I'll add the three he learned to his spellbook.

In the case of failure to learn a spell (like with Light), no new attempts can be made to learn it again until your next level up. So once he hits 4th level, Gregeddin can try to learn Light again, if he wishes.

Brilliant thanks for explaining.
Does it take in game time to study for these spells?

Yes, memorization takes 10 minutes per spell level. So to fill two first level slots would take 20 minutes. However, we can retcon that he studied this morning before he left home, if you like.

Okay, if there are any questions Haahqae would ask him about the giant so he can relay that information to the others, let me know.
Here's a list of questions Haahqae would have garnered from Tulbas's prompting. (Sorry for the late reply)

Is Hunter sure it is the same giant that comes every time?
Does he come at the same route?
What weapons have he been spotted with?
Have others tried to face him?
Has others tried to track his lair?
Does he have any known weaknesses?
Does he attack for fun? Maybe food? Maybe something meaner that it is forcing it to do so?

Is Hunter sure it is the same giant that comes every time?
He confirms it is the same giant each time.

Does he come at the same route?
Yes, from the eastern mountains.

What weapons have he been spotted with?
A very large club. He also has been seen to throw boulders up to 200 yards away.

Have others tried to face him?
The hunter organized another group two months ago, shortly after the giant first appeared. The entire group was slaughtered, save the hunter, who only just recently has fully recovered from his wounds.

Has others tried to track his lair?
Not yet. The hunter hopes to track him to his lair once he has a group, rather than wait for the giant to appear again.

Does he have any known weaknesses?
Giants are large and strong (a hit from his club does 2d6+7, or 9-18 damage). But they are slow and fairly stupid. The hunter believes that if they track the giant back to his lair and surprise him in his sleep, they have the best chance of success. However, it is yet unknown what defenses may be in the lair awaiting them.

Does he attack for fun? Maybe food? Maybe something meaner that it is forcing it to do so?
The hunter believes he is stocking up on food for the winter, based on his own experiences.
