Re: WotL OOC Thread
Yeah, especially if Haahqae keeps serving as the party's leader...
Re: WotL OOC Thread
HP not as high as I'd hoped, but hey that's dice!
I'm really enjoying the chapter. I have followed Tulbas' thread as well and the story there has been a lot of fun to keep up with. The mine has also been fun and engaging. I was worried about the combat and felt pretty guilty about charging Darga to his death, so the resurrection there has been a huge relief. The story has been really good, just reading the last post what Raetmal enters was a definite "Aww snap" moment. I think I've got the hang of combat now, tactics are hit and miss (evidently)
Going forwards, given Gregeddin's awe of magic and the plan he has hatched to get Haahqae to teach him will probably require research and study from books, the arcane bard seems the way to go. A renegade drifting bard seems like a reasonable path further down the line.
In line with this, 10 points into reading languages , and 5 points into picking pockets is what I would like done for thief skills please.
Am I correct that there is a natural 5% increase in legend lore upon level up? Or have I made that up completely?

Re: WotL OOC Thread
Gregeddin can probably acquire a spellbook from Raetmal, or maybe he can wrestle Sekla's spellbook away from Haahqae and use it for now (although he should probably acquire his own at some point). Speaking of which, Sekla's spellbook could be a good source of his first spells, as well as those scrolls, Haahqae himself (if he ever admits to being a mage, that is), and maybe Tulbas, as well.
You'll still need to roll to learn new spells, of course.
And yes, your Legend Lore increases to 10%. And your Rally Allies ability now lasts 2 rounds and has a range of 20 feet now.

Oh I just found the XP summaries ><
I noticed that in chapter 1 I got 2xp from the optional bonus xp for gaining 1sp worth of treasure, but in chapter 2 I saw no such bonus (and I picked up quite a bit more treasure, perhaps it needs to be appraised and sold first?).
I had thought there were also bonuses for mages for using spells effectively.
I was somewhat surprised at how high the bonuses were for hiding/moving silently ><.
If I got XP bonuses from both classes, would that make me get much too much xp?
I read some of Tulbas's thread, but far from all of it.

Yes, exactly. And as for the coins he picked up, I wanted to see whether he shares them with the group or keeps them to himself first.Haahque wrote: noticed that in chapter 1 I got 2xp from the optional bonus xp for gaining 1sp worth of treasure, but in chapter 2 I saw no such bonus (and I picked up quite a bit more treasure, perhaps it needs to be appraised and sold first?).
Hmmm...yes, you are correct. I must have overlooked that. I'll edit in the 50 XP for casting Grease, as well.Haahque wrote:I had thought there were also bonuses for mages for using spells effectively.
Effectively using thief class abilities at all are worth 200 XP a pop. That, combined with how few XP a thief needs to level, means they tend to level up pretty fast. Mages, on the other hand, level up fairly slow. So expect Haahqae's thief class to level faster than his illusionist side.Haahque wrote:I was somewhat surprised at how high the bonuses were for hiding/moving silently ><.
Too much XP? Is there such a thing?Haahque wrote:If I got XP bonuses from both classes, would that make me get much too much xp?

Nah, if anything, even if he got bonus XP in both classes, he'll still level slower than the others, because he's multi-classing.
Re: WotL OOC Thread
I was going to make some reply to the effect of 1000 steel is expensive to identify an item, then I read some rules which reminded me how much identifying items sucks in 2E.
This reminds me of plenty of stories about hitting the party's tank with various magic items to figure out what they do. (Obviously something you wouldn't do if you can just go to town and ID them for 15 gold).
I think we can probably bargain him down a bit, but put into perspective his price seems much more reasonable now. It would take me 100 steel and a day to do it myself, and I don't even think that has a 100% chance of success.

That works, too. Of course, in a world without magical healing...Haahque wrote:This reminds me of plenty of stories about hitting the party's tank with various magic items to figure out what they do.

Re: WotL OOC Thread
Sorry guys, I have plans over the long weekend that include me not being near my computer (gonna drive south to see a small portion of our nice friendly neighbor, the USA), so I won't be able to post until Sunday or Monday.

Understood, I'll NPC Haahqae in the meantime. If you have any special instructions for what he might do while you're gone, just let me know.
Re: WotL OOC Thread
If there's downtime, hide in my room and try to learn all the spells in Sekla's spell book.

Re: WotL OOC Thread
Should the group decide not to keep the Staff-Spear +3 and instead trade it in, I'll explain the process for trading magical items (even if the group does decide to keep it, it may be worthwhile to know this for future reference).
It's actually pretty simple. All magical items have an XP value. This is the value used to determine how much any magical item is worth. For instance, a Staff-Spear +3 is worth 2,000 XP. Therefore it could be traded for another item worth 2,000 XP...or two items worth 1,000 XP each, or 10 items worth 200 XP each, or one item worth 1,300 XP and another worth 700 XP, or any combination along those lines.
Raetmal has a decent inventory, although it should be larger, but magic is treated with superstition and disdain, and being a foreigner and a Silvanesti hurts his business, too. I'll list his inventory below, but for simplicity sake, I'll only include items that are worth 2,000 XP or less and can be used by at least one party member.

Re: WotL OOC Thread
Now comes the harder task of divvying up the magic loot.
On one hand I think, it's much harder to find a +3 item then a set of +1 items, given how looting works in most game systems and games, which makes me think the best choice is to just get Kendra a +3 longsword or swap it out for a useful 2k xp item for one person.
Another part of me wants to play more "fair" and get everyone who was with us a piece of the loot, which means splitting it up into about 4 items worth 500xp each. I would settle for a short bow +1 if this is the case.
And then there's a number of middle-items which look interesting and useful, such as the gloves of evasion, which give +10% to lock picking, with rope use and escaping restraints as nice riders.
And part 4 says it would always be good to have 1 or 2 potions of heroism to help us through any really though fights, as I seem to remember they help a lot at low levels.

All good points.
Keep in mind, thought, that Haahqae still has those scrolls that might prove valuable. And even if they don't, he could conceivably trade them in for something more useful, as well.

Re: WotL OOC Thread
I'm of the opinion that Kendra doesn't need a +3 weapon this early in the game even though it would be useful.
Though, she could still get a +1 long sword. That way the others can get something too.
