WotL OOC Thread

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Evil clerics and Neutral clerics are currently available, but Good clerics aren't just yet. So if you want to play a Good cleric, it means having no divine powers for a little while.

As for mages, the party is currently level 1, and wizards don't need to take the Test until level 4. So it's a ways off. Assuming a mage decides to take his or her Test, we'd deal with that when it came up. How it would be taken care of would really depend on where we were in the game at the time.

The racial hatred is in full swing, as is the prejudice against wizards and Knights of Solamnia. No matter what you play, some NPCs somewhere will probably hate you.

You can get started with rolling over at Invisible Castle. This game uses the 4d6 method, drop the lowest. Once you roll, you post the link here in the forums.

Also, I allow almost any race/class combination in my games, so you can be a dwarf druid or a gnome ranger, or whatever. Kender can't be mages (they lack the mental discipline and patience), but beyond that, pretty much anything goes.

I've just realised, I dont know if you are waiting for me to post, but i wasn't sure that Gregeddin would do anything for this round, just wait and listen, then run in.

Nah, I was waiting to see what Darga would do, actually.

I still need some time to decide exactly what I want to be and stuff. I have to dig out some books. I think I still have the WOTL blue book somewhere.
I was wondering if you allowed kits and shuch things? Right now, I am leaning towards a Kagnosti Fighter (Archer).

You were really only supposed to roll once, not six times, though. Was there something wrong with your first set of rolls?

And yes, I do allow some kits. One of our current players has the Mouse Burglar kit, for instance.

If you read the War of the Lance Basic Info thread, specifically this post, it mentions the allowable races for the game. Kagonesti isn't among them. I might allow one, though, if you can come up with a really good justification for it, though. The reason I left them out is because Kagonesti are not native to this area (they are mostly found up in Southern Ergoth at the moment). So you'd need a reason why a Kagonesti would be this far south. And since the game takes place in the city of Haven (at least for now), you'd need a reason why a Kagonesti would be in a human city of all places. If you can come up with some good justifications, I'd be willing to allow it.

I was using the family computer, and my son also has a more than
Passing Interest in dnd. He messes around with it for a while before I got down to it. In the order of fairness, go ahead and roll me a set of stats. Not picky.

Oh, is he old enough to play himself?

We'll just go with the first set of rolls: 13, 14, 12, 8, 15, 13.

He is nine, going on ten. My buddy and I have ran him trough a few of the old Dragons quest games and he really enjoyed it, but I don't think he is ready to really play.

Awesome. I think I was around...13 or so when I started myself.

Anyway, once you decide on a race and class, you can arrange your scores and we can move on from there.

So here, out of character where I don't have wis 0,

My basic plan was that I've been saving grease so far, which could easily result in a grease fire if that's useful.

Definitely scouting to find out what we're up against is a must, and I haven't needed to use ghost sound yet, so I have that card too.

Haahqae isn't too fond of showing others that he actually is a mage, seeing how persecuted and regulated they are in general, but those are some things he can do in a pinch.

Sounds like some torch throwing synergy could be fun.

So they're in a room underground with only 1 exit. It's really tempting to try to either drown them to death, or smoke them to death, but the room is probably a bit too large for those, and it'd end up ruining the loot. Similar principle for the rocks fall everyone dies strategy.

It seems to me that any sort of strait up fight could end in a TPK.

It would be easier to pretend any of these things were happening with an illusion. Audible glammor can make the noise of up to 4 men (I believe) and can be made to sound like they're approaching or fading away, so I think it would be possible for me to cast an illusion sound, give us time to escape (it lasts for only 3 rounds though, so we have to be quick), and hide to ambush them when they flee the room in terror.

Unless they don't. Then all it's done is given away our presence.

We don't know exactly what we're facing, but if we're facing 2 fliers and a mage we can't really just hide behind grease and use bows to stick them full of arrows.

Maybe we could use grease in the corridor to split them up. Like make some noise so that the two sligs come, grease and fire the narrow corridor behind them so that the other three can't enter. Perhaps we could split the fights up this way and if we are going to die after just the sligs we could try and run for it.

Well it's been a while since Haahqae did something extremely foolish, and it's hard to resist the character's natural reaction to the situation when I fail a wis roll. Which is rather easy with Haahqae's crumby wis.

Certainly not with only 3 HP, at least!

Although technically, Darga isn't dead yet. He's at -4 HP, and will lose one HP each round from bleeding out, until he dies at -10 HP. So if someone can get to him and stabilize him before then, he'll live. Of course, that might be difficult with a draconian standing over him! Ideally, someone should run interference with the draconian while someone else saves Darga's life.
