Arei steps back, keeping the crossbow leveled at the creature. "Giant frogs, looks like this is when they hunt." She says retreating slowly. "Lets hope we arent the main course!"
" Kid never learned to clear a room. Doors and corners, I told him. Doors and corners."

Val heads back and begins to add fuel to the fire. "Frogs, big ones."

Andar shakes his head. "I think there's something up there, but they didn't say anything."

Areilon keeps her crossbow steady, worrying what the toad's intention might be. Val turns her back on it, apparently seeing it as no threat at all. This proves to be a mistake. Once her back is turned, the toad opens its mouth and its tongue whips out, wraps around her leg, and pulls. Val's leg is pulled out from under her, and she hits the ground. The tongue then drags her across the grass, where the toad bites down hard on her leg.

Areilon fires her crossbow, getting a perfect shot right into the creature's left eye. It is so stunned from the blow, that it releases Val's leg. More ribbiting is heard in the darkness beyond the fire brand's light.

================

Giant Toad attacks Val from behind (+2) (1d20+2): 17, hit for (2d4): 8 damage.
Areilon fires her light crossbow with elven accuracy (+1) at the giant toad (1d20+1): 21, critical hit! for (2d6): 8 damage.

(OOC: I just assumed Areilon would fire, as she had her crossbow at the ready. I hope that's okay, although considering you got a crit, I assume there won't be any complaining. :lol:

(OOC: Is it possible to assume Val cried out loud enough to wake everyone when she was bitten? If so I guess it will take a round for Baeros to comprehend what's going on :? but then his first actions will be to tell Ouragana and Jocelyn to keep behind/close to him :spider: , put his quiver on the shoulder, grab his short sword in one hand, his bow in the other and go to untie Thunder so he won't be an easy prey, probably another round... Obviously if something cut his course in the middle, plans will be changed :idea: )

"We're under attack!" warns Areilon loudly as she reloads her crossbow. "Giant toads!" This is sufficient to wake up Baeros and Ouragana from their deep slumber.

Before Val can recover, the toad bites her again, causing her considerable pain. A second toad then leaps out of the darkness at Areilon, knocking her to the ground and trying to eat her leg.

Val tosses the fire brand aside, and it lands in a wet spot, causing it to extinguish at once. This, at least, allows her and Areilon to use their infravision. Taking her trident in both hands, she then lunges at the first toad, only for it to hop aside at the last second.

Areilon manages to kick the second frog off her, roll backwards, and then fire her crossbow at the first toad. The bolt pierces the creature's skull, killing it. However, a third toad then leaps forward, aiming for Val. The half-orc manages to roll aside before getting bitten again.

With their infravision working again, neither Val or Areilon spot any more toads nearby, save for the two remaining.

Giant Toad 02 leaps 45 feet south and bites at Areilon (1d20): 13, hit for (2d4): 7 damage.
Val drops the fire brand and skillfully (+1) attacks Giant Toad 01 with her masterwork (+1) trident (1d20+2): 4, miss.
Areilon fires her light crossbow with elven grace (+1) at Giant Toad 01 (1d20+1): 18, hit for (1d6): 2 damage. Giant Toad 01 dies.
Giant Toad 03 leaps 50 feet south and bites at Val (1d20): 7, miss.

(OOC: Remember, those of you by the campfire can't see anything beyond the light.

Ouragana looks toward the commotion. "Come back in an arc, I can stop them" she shouts. She moves towards Val, Areilon and the toads, preparing the "web" spell in her mind and casting it as soon as she has a clear path and the toads are within range.

(Now, if Arei and Val believe her is, of course, another matter entirely.)

Baeros wakes up, instinctively grabbing his sword. He looks around and asks "What's going on?" Then as his mind gets clearer, Areilon shouts starts to make sense. 'We are under attack!' In less than a heartbeat Baeros is on his feet, his pants and boots on, short sword in hand, assessing the situation.

Hearing the shouts come from the north, and hearing Ouragana nearby shouts something that sounds like she has a plan, Baeros takes command and give orders, "Jocelyn, you keep close to Andar! You two go and untie Thunder so he can protect himself, then follow us. Andar, make sure she is unharmed. Ouragana, come with me, I didn't understand what you want to do, but stay behind me, take a brand so we can see what we are fighting. We will go to help the others." With that Baeros switches the short sword to the left hand, grabs his long sword in the right hand and runs towards the shouts, leaving his shirt and armor behind and making sure Ouragana comes close to him.

==================================
(OOC: I think it will take at least a round to wake up, shout at everyone and run to the Toads, but here is initiative just in case. (1d10): 7)

Baeros is still running. Hearing Areilon shouts so close he starts to wave his swords entering combat mood. "Were are they Arie? I'm to your right..."

=================
(OOC: I'm still waiting for the round to end, so no more actions for me. If Ouragana did bring a brand I guess we can see the frogs. If she didn't, it depends I guess if it's a bright night sky or not.)

"Andar, they need our help," Jocelyn says. "Lead the way, and I am behind you. Once close enough, I should be able to use a prayer to help all of you."

OOC: when they get closer she will cast bless on the group.

"Fools! I need a clear shot or I can't help you" Ouragana yells in frustration as everyone closes in. If her companions don't move out of the way, she will cast Sleep, centered on the toads, not Web.
