CH. 2: Bear in Mine

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Gregeddin waits foe Haahqae or Darga to wave him on. He will follow and trust their judgement to guide him past traps and pass through safely.

Haahqae indicates back for people to stay quiet and sneak past, which he himself does, taking care to maintain concentration on the cantrip.

"We'd better be quick about it, pocketdoors rarely stay expanded for very long." He explains in a low whisper.

Seeing Haahqae's signal, Gregeddin does his best to shuffle past quietly and waits ahead

Keeping his voice low enough that only Haahqae can hear it, Darga whispers, "So what're we gonna do? Do we lure 'em out so the fight's on our ground, not theirs?"

Kynaston, Coroccoco and Bear follow after Kendra and Gregeddin, quietly passing by the illusionary wall, as well.

"Well I was hoping we wouldn't have to fight them at all. There's four of them and they're damn tough. If one of them was able to knock down Coroccoco, 4 could... Be a little risky." Haahqae whispers back.

Not being able to see into the chamber, Gregeddin silently wonders what they were slipping past so quietly. Given the recent tusslrE came close to death, he is thankful we are being passive. However he looks over at Bear and remembers his and all of our purposes are to clean out the mine. His thoughts drift slightly as he waits, thinking of how we could create our own traps without putting our selves in danger...

Darga scratches his head for a long moment, mulling over the options before them. Finally he speaks, quietly and slowly. "I don't want ta get into any more fights than you, but we have a job ta do. How about...if ya kin make that look like there's just th' wall there," he says with a gesture towards Haahqae's illusion, "Kin ya make th' floor back by that pit trap look like th' pit is in a different place? Those demons probably know where th' trap is, and they might be confident that they kin get 'round it, 'specially if they kin see that we've sprung it. But if ya kin make it look like it's elsewhere, they might fall into th' real pit, an' then we won't have ta fight 'em?"

"Ah, what you need is a pocketfloor. I don't have one of those, but fortunately a pocketdoor can double as a pocketfloor effectively, except that it tends to break when one steps on it. I'd have to remove the pocketdoor from here to do it though."

Overhearing the others, Bear joins in on the conversation. "I want these beasts cleaned out of my mine. But how we do that--whether killing them all one by one, tricking them into traps, or slaying their leader to cause panic among their ranks--I leave that to you lot."

Kendra listens to the conversation for a few moments. "How are we going to lure them to their own trap?" she asks curiously, not completely up to date on what exactly is going on.

Whispering to Darga he replies, "Oh yeah, no problem. It folds down just as easily as it expands.", but to kendra he concedes "To that I don't know. We could set a fire, that would lure them all right... Or, maybe one of my gadgets could come in handy. I'd have to take an inventory to figure that out."

"Whatever you do, I recommend you be quick. Standing around in this corridor will eventually draw attention," Coroccoco points out.
