Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
"Presumably, or perhaps some enemy of yours put them up to it, offering them something shiny, better drink or an artist. They seem in dire need of all of these things." Haahqae chimes in cheerfully.
"Hmm, a scout for the west tunnel? I suppose I could do that." And Haahqae wanders off to the west, keeping an eye out for traps.
(Find Traps (15%): 24, Detect unsafe walls/ceiling/floors (1-7 on d10): 7)

"That is what we shall soon find out," Coroccoco says.Kendra wrote:"Why would kobolds want this mine?" Kendra asks curiously. "Aren't they kind of a cowardly lot?"
Haahqae investigates the western tunnel, but doesn't find any signs of traps or unsafe construction. His infravision does allow him to see that the tunnel ends in a chamber, though, after about 30 feet.

Haahqae checks for traps [15] (1d100): 24, fail. He finds no traps.
Haahqae checks for unsafe construction [7] (1d10): 7, pass. He finds no sign of unsafe construction.
Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
Haahqae rejoins the others; "Nope, no tripwires, boiling oil, lava or anything interesting that way, just another boring room."

Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
Darga thinks over Haahqae's words for a moment, then asks, "Is there anything in the room? Mebbe somewhere some more o' them kobolds could be hiding?"
Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
Gregeddin cocks his head and thinks for a moment
"Oh yeah, good thought Darga, boy I'm not thinking straight"

Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
"Hmm right, they could escape if we leave them behind like that. I'd better go check." Haahqae starts in the way of the tunnel again, then stops for a moment. "If there's danger I'll whistle 3 times like a barn owl, once like a brown owl then twice like an otter." Then he's off to explore the passageway and the room beyond looking for any signs of tricksy little scaly creatures.
(And here's the rolls: Not sure if there's some sort of stat for seeing the kobolds, so... I'll roll find/remove traps I guess?
Find/Remove Traps (15%): 10
Detect Noise (25%): 53
Move Silently (45%): 40
Hide in Shadows (45%): 11)

Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
The chamber Haahqae comes upon is pretty ripe. It appears to have been used by the kobolds as a small barracks. There are bundles of straw for beds, the half-eaten remains of some one or some thing strewn about, and the far end of the chamber appears to have been used to store waste.

"What if I don't know the difference between the owls?" Kendra asks, looking to the others. "And does an otter whistle? Actually, none of those things actually whistle. Two hoot. The other...well I don't know what an otter sounds like."
Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
"Hmm, no kobolds in the beds, no kobolds eating, whatever that is... kobolds appear to need a cook too."
Haahqae peers around the room for a bit, then returns to the others.
"Nope, no kobolds in that room. Maybe we killed them all"

Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
Darga peers into the room himself. "Mebbe we did get them all, but we should be lookin' in there anyway." Carefully entering the room, he continues, "Mebbe they've got a map or something else that'd help us."
(OOC: Darga will search the room quickly but relatively thoroughly. He'll specifically rifle through and look under the straw beds and any other "furniture" that might be present.)

Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
Darga searches the room and his thoroughness pays off. He finds three simple gemstones hidden away in the straw beds. One is a mottled blue, one is light blue with yellow flecks, and the last is an aqua color.
Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
"What was it that they were eating? Or even who..." Gregeddin uses his broad sword to poke through the pile of scraps to try and find out what it is.
Wondering aloud "Bear said he hired others before us... Could this be them? And how many beds for the kobolds we killed... If the others that bear hired were turned or possessed... Corocxoco could that happen? A demon possess humans?"

Re: CH. 2: Bear in Mine
The meat in question is so chewed up and decayed, it's almost impossible to discern where it may have come from originally.
Bear wrinkles his nose at the smell. "It could well be a former miner or one of the mercenaries I sent down here before," he admits.
"I have heard of demon possession before," Coroccoco states. "But I've never seen it in person, and am no expert on the matter."

"I don't think kobolds eat humans," Kendra says. "And we haven't gone deep enough in this mine to know for sure if they are all gone. This is just one room out of many."
