WotL OOC Thread

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Of course as a PC I come up with tons of thories and plots about how I expect plots to come together and/or reasons why they won't.

It was clear when I got the quest for the mine that it was more significant then the encounters of everyone else in the party except for Coroccoco, I also guessed the other noted NPCs in the tavern probably had similarly significant quests as the one I went for, but it's generally in Haahqae's nature to help the first person who asks, instead of asking around and choosing who to help later. Further I saw in character motivation for Haahqae to take this quest over "Genaric First Level Quest Goes Here".

I'm not sure if I've ever used individual XP system even though it's how it's suggested in the books, maybe I have for 1 campaign and it went pretty well. Anyways, we'll see how that goes.

I found it hilarious that I got 2 xp for gaining 1 SP, although I know that is by the rules. Only 2 more years with days that successful and I'll level! (If that was the only xp I got that day)

I'm hoping Haahqae's foolishness won't kill us all sometime soon down the line.

Looking forward to the next chapter.

As for marching order...
In terms of survival, Haahqae doesn't have it so he probably shouldn't be first... Although he does have "Detect unsafe walls, ceiling + floors 1-7 on a d10" Not 100% sure if this is passive or active, sounds like it's active. His find+Remove traps looks pretty garbage at this level.

In terms of in character I'm not sure how I can justify Haahqae not wanting to be first to see what's going on. Perhaps he could just accept someone else's better judgement.

Haahqae has dark vision so he doesn't really need a light source.

Yep, in fact most of the named NPCs had quests to offer.

And yes, his ability to detect construction and so forth is an active ability, and you'll need to specify when he's using it.

As a vulnerable caster, Haahqae should probably be somewhere in the middle of the group. But as he has stealth skills and infravision, he could make a useful scout (as would Darga, of course, and to a lesser extent, even Coroccoco).

(Keep in mind, infravision doesn't work if the character is within the radius of a light source, like a torch or lantern.)

Anyway, sorry, I meant to get chapter two up earlier, but I accidentally passed out for five hours. I'll work on it now.

Don't leave Gregeddin behind please! :O
I'm really enjoying the game, the role playing part and interacting is really nice.
I feel like I may need a few pointers when the first fight comes up, and to make sure i use the correct dice off invisibe castle :)

I would have suggested Gregeddin be somewhere in the middle or back with one (of his seemingly excessive) torches so the others could use infravision. However, as you mention the light source radius condition for infravision, I don't know how that would work out.
From a character point of view, being rather young and unused to living outdoors, he wouldn't be the first to volunteer.

I almost threw in some kind of random encounter on the way to the mine; like a wild creature or something (wolves, maybe), as a practice run, but decided against it later. Don't worry, though; 2E combat is easy enough to pick up, and if you have any questions, just ask.

Haha, I meant to have Kynaston take lead, but I was distracted by other things than posting.

I like how things have been going- it's kind of nice to have a team-up quest as the first real quest, for obvious reasons. The roleplaying's good, the sub-setting is good (since DragonLance is the setting), and certainly it's the most interesting stretch of campaign I've ever played without combat (although honestly, combat is quite secondary for me). I find the ways one gains XP in 2E to be a little hilarious, but at least it keeps us honest. I was planning to pawn off the longsword anyways; it puts Kyne in encumbrance and was probably pretty hard for him to look at, considering. It's a good thing to lose and maybe get back at a higher price.

Really for the marching order I'd have either gone axes or darksight up front; axes can cut support beams (which Bear wouldn't like but hey) or darksight means much better scouting. That said, having Kendra lead is pretty funny so it's hard to complain. Here's hoping Haahqae won't get us all killed.

Boy, everyone's worried Haahqae is going to get them killed.

So it's looking like maybe this for the marching order so far:

Darga
Kendra (lantern)
Kynaston
Haahqae
Coroccoco
Bear
Gregeddin (torch)

For reference, a torch gives off a 15 foot radius of light for half an hour, while a hooded lantern gives off a 30 foot radius of light for 6 hours.

Haahqae would be satisfied with 2nd or 3rd in the marching order, close enough to the front to do some scouting when it comes up, but with a body or two in front of him who can fight in close combat in case we're stuck in a situation of combat in a tight area.

In character it's still close enough to the front to satisfy his need for knowledge hopefully, although he might be a tad disappointed that he's not first.

Sorry about my relative absence; work's been killing me lately and this weekend was busy.

Darga is willing to take the lead or near to it, as it'll allow him to scout ahead and put his thievery to use!

I'm slightly confused by djhyland/Darga's latest post. He's already checked this tunnel for traps.

Perhaps we're not all quite on the same page for where everyone is. When I said Unless Haahqae sees anything particularly interesting down any of the passages such as living creatures or rooms full of treasures or artifacts, he doubles back and rejoins the rest of the group, Jaded replied that I didn't see anything particularly interesting, so I took this to mean Haahqae doubled back to join the others. The others, through their posts and Jaded's, have not seemed to move away from the room they were in when Jaded drew the map (except Kendra), so I took this to mean that we all were still in that room (or in it again).

I'm a little confused as well. Though I got the impression in either case we are heading north, whether the new cross roads connects to that big room I'm not sure.

Hmm, I thought I read that we hadn't checked the way to the north yet. If I read in error, I'll happily delete my post of Darga checking the tunnel again.

That was my impression; that Haahqae double-backed to the first intersection, where the others were waiting.
