[ooc]Locky boxed Fikod out, and he didn't want to step on the feisty kender's toes. He didn't take anything, for now. Also, crossbows are really really bad in 2e. 1/2 the rof of bows and 1/2 the damage. Just... so unnecessarily bad.[/ooc]

Fikod spits a long chain of dwarvish curses from under his braided mustachios, hurrying to the depression's lip."What? No Daergar!? This be a trap, blast it! And narry a steel to soothe me nerves." He mutters, coming up beside Babushka and letting fly with his crossbow at the eight-legged aggressor.

While Ulster and Thuskar stay behind to free the captured dwarves and watch over Malika and the animals, the rest of the party presses onward, to the depression.

Jerrard unleashes a trio of magical missiles on the spider, which nearly knocks it over. The surviving kirath looks up at the party in surprise, then shouts out to them a warning in elven.

As the party suspected, it was a trap, indeed. A dozen Daergar come pouring out of the ruins, firing crossbows at the party. Fikod, Jeremy and Jerrard all take hits in the chaos that ensues. The spider ignores the party's attacks and leaps at the kirath, biting into him. The elf drops like his companion. Imani slides down to the bottom of the depression, her scimitars at the ready, but the combined fire power of Babushka and Fikod finish off the spider and it topples over, dead.

Fikod nearly drops his crossbow as the two bolts slam into him, knocking him to his knees. He grunts, using the momentum and a surge of adrenaline to roll a into the depression’s mouth for some cover. He comes up, reloading his crossbow and taking aim at Daergar 3 as if there werent two quarels protruding from him.

Imani lets out a small sigh as she made it all the way down to get the spider, and now the spider is dead along with the elves. "Great," she says as she turns and makes her way back up the depression.

Jerrard unleashes another barrage of magic missiles, but these three spread out and each hit different dwarves. This turns out to be the only successful attack anyone in the party makes, as Babushka's and Jeremy's arrows, Fikod's bolt, and Locky's stone are all dodged, deflected or blocked.

The dwarves unleash another volley of bolts, save the one whose crossbow jammed. He throws the weapon down in disgust, pulls out an axe, and starts making his way around the depression. Only Jerrard and Jeremy are hit with a bolt, the rest are evaded, luckily.

Frustrated, Imani climbs back up to the lip of the depression.

One of the dwarves begins shouting to the others in dwarven, but only Jeremy and Fikod can understand his words. "They got a mage! Everyone aim for the mage!"

Since the advancing daergar is the closest she has a clear line of fire to, Babushka lets loose two arrows at #11.
