CH 2: Two Heads are Better

Echo leads Hollidan around the fog and troll quietly. Just because the troll can't see at the moment doesn't mean that he can't hear. She tries to get as far away from the troll as possible. She also waits until the pilgrims are out of the chamber before she does anything else.

The troll flails about in the fog, roaring angrily. "Where you at? Where you go?" it demands.

Once Gimog and Nuvain get the pilgrims free, they grab them and run back out the eastern tunnel.

Echo makes sure that the pilgrims, Nuvain, and Gimog are out of the chamber before she points her wand towards the fog and the troll inside. "Hollidan, stay behind me," she says as she makes sure she is far enough away as to not get hurt. "'Firaga," she says, making sure the fireball is far enough away from her and Hollidan, but close enough to the troll to do some serious damage.

The ball of flame erupts with a dull roar, and a wave of heat washes over Echo from the blast. The troll screams in agony, then goes silent. The wall of fog obscures the result of the explosion, though.

"I'm not sure if I killed it or not, but let's check on the other pilgrims," Echo suggests as she glances over her shoulder to Hollidan.

Before Hollidan can respond, the fog dissipates, revealing the troll is still standing, although just barely. It has severe third degree burns all over its body. Roaring in rage and pain, it easily spots Hollidan's torch and starts to charge toward the two, furious.

Echo points her wand at the troll once again, figuring she won't have to wait too long for it to get close enough. "Fire!" she cries out.

Before Hollidan can act, Echo steps forward and blasts the incoming troll with a jet of flame. This does the horrid thing in for good, and it drops to the ground, unmoving but smoldering and reeking of burned flesh and hair.

Echo lowers her wand, letting out a deep breath. She looks tired. "Are you okay?" she asks Hollidan.

[JadedDM]

"Uh...yeah. Looks like that takes care of two of them," he says, lowering his sword. He walks up to the smoldering corpse and kicks it twice for good measure. "Yeah, it's dead."

[HorizonsDream]

"I could have told you that just from the smell," Echo says before she heads towards where Nuvain and Gimog were to check on the pilgrims.

"That's what you said before, and it turned out to be very much alive then," Hollidan points out.

The three pilgrims they rescued are all human. One is a young man, about Echo's age, with black hair and eyes but fair skin. The second is a deeply tanned man with red hair and hazel eyes, perhaps in his 30s or so. The third is another old woman, this one with brown skin and bright blue eyes.

"They're all safe," Nuvain says. "There are only three left to rescue."

"Must be deeper in the cave then," Gimog says.

[HorizonsDream]

"I said I didn't know if it was dead or not at first," Echo corrects. "Anyway, there was another tunnel leading out of that chamber. Nuvain, would you check it out?"

Nuvain nods and heads off, while Gimog goes to inspect the body of the dead troll and Hollidan speaks with the pilgrims, making sure they are alright.

Echo walks over to the newly rescued pilgrims. "Are all of you all right?" she asks.
