Actually, Herbalism is a both a priest and a wizard NWP. And a ranger's crossover skills include Warrior, Wizard and General. So actually, a ranger can have herbalism at cost.

Healing, on the other hand, is another story. For Locky to teach Babushka it, she will need 3 slots. If you drop Cooking, then transfer your WP slot into an NWP like Jenara did, you'll have three slots open now. Otherwise, you'll acquire a new one at level 6. I'd also allow her to learn Healing after the adventure with one slot, and spend the next few levels paying for it, too.

As for species enemy, I never really brought it up before because (at the time) I assumed we wouldn't go beyond this module, so it wasn't necessary. Many of the monsters found in Pod-Caverns are completely unique to the module (like the podmen). If you had chosen, say Goblins, for your species enemy, for instance, it'd have been kind of a waste (so far, anyway).

I suppose we could be vague about it and declare her species enemy as "abomination." We can define 'abomination' to be 'any living creature that has been warped by magic.' This would include pretty much all of the Shroom's magical experiments (podmen, mad trees, snagworts). It would also include draconians, which are fairly common in this world (they replace Orcs).

Otherwise...you consider Babushka to be a forest ranger, right? There are different kinds of rangers, including arctic, aquatic, desert, forest, jungle, hill, mountain, plains, swamp and underdark. But I seem to recall you saying she liked to play in the forest as a child. If that's the case, here are some suggestions for a forest ranger. (If I'm wrong about that, let me know, I can give you a new list, appropriate to the terrain.)

1) Green Dragons
2) Goblinoids (Goblins, Hobgoblins, Sligs, Bugbears)
3) Ettercaps (also includes forest spiders)
4) Ghouls/Ghasts
5) Kobolds
6) Ogres
7) Gnolls/Flinds
8) Trolls (any type)
9) Worgs
10) Wyverns

Since I haven't read the next couple of modules yet, I can't speculate on what type(s) of monsters are in abundance or not. Although if you pick something that never comes up, I suppose I can always make up some random encounters with the creatures, to make sure it wasn't wasted. If you need help narrowing it down further, let me know. Failing that, if you want to leave it up to chance, you could always roll a 1d10.

Oh, there was one more matter I hoped to discuss regarding Babushka. Does she have faith in any of the gods? (I am aware you don't really know any of the gods of the Krynn pantheon, but I'm wondering if she would have faith if you did know, or if she is more agnostic.) Not a big deal, but as a ranger, when she reaches level 8 (which is still a long, long way off), she gains access to divine magic.

Actually, come to think of it, the old gods only returned 25 years ago (roughly). That means everyone in the party has grown up with them--except Babushka. She would have been in her mid 50s. Having grown up in world without gods, she may have never really sought them out. It's entirely possible she knows about as much as you do, in fact. Locky may well be the first true cleric she's had real contact with, even--especially considering she's fairly isolated as a ranger. Locky may even be able to convert her to the gods of light.

Regarding the species ennemy, I need to consult the monster manual, which I don't have the time to do now, but I will over the next few days and let you know.

As for her faith, I thought of her as someone rather agnostic but who has great reverence for Nature. The intricate workings of the food chain, inlcuding the decomposition to give nutrients to new plant life etc. inspires awe and wonder, and anything disrupting that (such as the shroom's experiments) deeply disgust her. It is entirely possible that in time, she will come to worship the same gods as Locky (after all, it is the sun that makes all life possible).

That works. Yeah, her faith won't really matter until she hits level 8, which is still 136,978 XP away. So no hurry there, to be sure.

Yes, she (HorizonsDream) decided to join up now, I guess to scope things out and see what our operation is like. She has plenty of experience in play-by-post games (mostly email based, but same concept) and years of experience under my DMing (she's been in every game I've ever run except the ones at Planet since 2003).

Yep, she plays a flirty human cleric in my other game. She's actually pretty interesting. She was (unknowingly) possessed by a spirit from the Positive Energy Plane when her hometown was assaulted by an army of zombies in her childhood. This spirit boosts her ability to heal and turn undead, but she thinks she's just a prodigy.

She hasn't decided on a race/class yet. I wanted her to hold off until I actually get the module and go over it. Knowing her, though, she tends to always play humans, elves, and half-elves. (Once I talked her into playing a halfling, but only because the rest of the party were halflings, too).
