BishGada (Private thread) Labyrinth of Madness

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

I realize I never answered you about reflecting pool. It is a lvl 4 divination spell, he only has Minor access to Divination so can only cast up to lvl 3 spells from that sphere. Foesight is also a lvl 4 divination spell.

Ok, it takes 10 mins/ spell level to re-memorize stuff, you may want to cut back on some of the changes because it is about 19 hours of just memorization right now...

Also, for the ioun stone to have the new spell you would have to memorize it and cast it into the stone.

Allikhain will agree to assist

Day 1 spell list:
1st (7 + 3): Bless x2, Protection From Evilx2, Command, Ebony Hand, Spectral Sensesx2, Undead Alacrityx2
2nd (7 + 3): Hold Personx3, Aidx2, Withdraw, Find Traps, Spiritual Hammer, Resist Turning, Dark Fire of Beshaba (Priest spells compedium)
3rd (7 + 2): Emotion Control x2, Life Drain x2, Animate dead, Protection from fire, Prayer, Dispel Magic, Remove Curse
4th (7 + 4): Heart Blightx2, Cause Insanity, Solipsism, Mental domination, Cloak of bravery, Free Actionx2, Geniusx3
5th (5 + 2): Quest, Undead Regeneration, Raise Dead, Dispel good, Imbue undead with spell abilityx2, Air walk
6th (3): Asphyxiate, Word of Recall, Conj. Fire Elemental
7th (2): Resurrection, Energy drain
Ioun stones 9 spell levels: Resurrection, Hold Person

Day 2 spell list
1st: Ebony hand x 3, Spectral senses x 2, Undead alracity x 2, Foresight, commandx2 (6 same 4 new, 40 mins)
2nd: Hold Person x 3, Find traps x 3, idea x2, Chilling Scythe, speak with animals (4 same 6 new, 120 mins)
3rd: heart blight, Dispel magic x2, Forested protection, Negative plane protection x2, Etherealness, Mask of Gargauth (1 same 7 new, 210 mins)
4th: assume undead form x 3, Genius x2, Unfailing endurance, Solipsisim, Free action, cause insanity, heart blight, <empty> (5 same 5 or 6 new? 200-240 mins)
5th: animate dead monsters x2, undead regeneration, Raise dead x2, Slay living x2 (2 same 5 new, 250 mins)
6th: summon varrangoin, Animal sum III (6), Summon undead (3 new, 180 mins)
7th: Create undead minion - need human, make wight, Undeath to death (2 new, 140 mins)

40+120+210+200+250+180+140 => 1140
Total time: 19 hours...
so if he starts at 6am on day 2 he won't be done memorizing spell changes until 1am day 3...

I was sure he has major divination. guess I was confused with Thought spells. oh well... and 19h is crazy stuff. :)

1st: leave as it was before
2nd: take speak with animals instead of spiritual hammer => 20
3rd: Animate dead , Negative plane protection, instead of Life Drain and Aid => 60
4th: assume undead form x 2, Instead of 2xgenius => 80
5th: animate dead monsters x2, slay living, instead of dispel good, Air walk, Imbue undead with spell ability => 150
5th-7th: I need the changes for the project...

ioun stone: speak with dead - 30

So still long time... 340 m, right? I didn't miss anything?

Hmm, yep 340m for the ones you updated here, and then 6th (180) and 7th lvl spells (140) => 680
so 11hrs 20 mins
So if he gets up at 6am he'll be ready by 5:40 pm

What is the approximate distance between the room with the "hands" and the camp?
You are talkin' to the holy symbol wearing,
Ruby ring wearing, kiss stealing; Woo!
Praying/healing, beholder riding, griffin flying
Son of a blowgun, and I'm having a hard time holding these Aboleth shoes down! WOO!

Absolute straight-line distance?
At least 800 ft, probably closer to 1,100 ft. The winding passage down isn't direct but it's about 1/4 mile long to the stairwell, then the 300 ft drop to the snake head room, then I think it was 80ft+ down to the next floor.

Well, even that it is a pity, I don't see other choice. With great power comes great... ahh... well... meditation time? If that's what it takes to get a small group of undead and one Varragoind, so be it.

First he will go with Allakhain far enough from the camp. Then create 3 troll zombies using animate dead monster. (he can make 4 but we wanted to keep the unit size not too large).

Then he will cast summon greater varragoind. If offering are needed, then it is third of the gold and items Ke'Sha get or souls of their enemies if that's its preference.

Allikhain joins Ke'Sha as they move off into the forest. We should be quick, it will be dark before long.

Ke'Sha retrieves the Troll finger-scraps from his pouch, digging a tiny hole for three of them and planting them like small seeds. The halfling then begins his unholy incantation. The ground begins to rumble and swell as if a large bag were being inflated beneath the surface. First one, then another, then a third arm bursts forth from the ground, scattering earth and pebbles. Rotting troll forms exhume themselves, towering over the necromancers and staring blankly ahead...

The Necromantic priest then draws forth a tiny brass ball shaped cage on a fine chain with an oddly cut quartz crystal inside. He taps the ball with a fingernail, causing it to ring as he begins the incantation. A dark circle forms on the ground before him, like a shadow fallen on the forest floor. The darkness deepens as he rings the bell, repeating the words. A third time he rings, and the blackness ripples like waves of a pond... A fourth time and the peaks of those ripples of nothingness swell and rise higher. The fifth and final chime and recitation of unholy summonings and the waves of void peak higher, drops and tendrils stretching upwards to form a figure of absolute shadow.

The shape resolves into that of a winged figure, like a man-sized bat with features resembling something elven. Rotting patches of leathery hide cling over exposed bones and dangle from wings that drape its body like a cloak. It snarls at the failing sunlight still filtering in through the trees, but addresses the filthy Halfling. Hmmm... what foolisssshhh creature sssummonsss me forth from the Abysssss... Pray to your puny godssss for sssuccor.... Thinksss thou one ssssuch asss you can ssstrike a sssatisfying bargain with the likessss of mysssself?

[Do you have any fun names for your new little friends? Also, time to strike a bargain with the Abyssal critter ;)]

"Ahhh, I do pray to my god but it is not succor I seek. I pray to serve him well by raising and dominating undead so his might will spread even more." then he continues with a subtle warning. "This could be an opportunity for you or more material for my experiments," he pauses momentarily then continues, "and even I lack somewhat at the practice of bargaining, as the undead usually just obey to my will, I'm willing to see that you are satisfied working together. I can offer you part of the treasure, souls of enemies we meet, or even command undead to do your bidding as far as it is empowering The Lord of the Undead name..."

[not sure why the image of the Varrangoin wouldn't load before, but I fixed it.]

At the Necromancer's exultation of his dark diety and description of the Varrangoin as a being of power, the creature stretches it's shoulders and wings wide in an almost preening display of confidence. Treassssure... for ssssuch paltry thingssss I have neither usssse nor apetitessss... it replies in a sibilant hiss. Sssoulllssss.. mmmmm... yesss... the ssspiritsss of the innoccccent... For thossse of tainted materialsss there isss little desssire... Hollow shellsss I have no ussse for... Wings of eternal darkness shift and settle like the mantle and cape of some dark noble. Withered lips of taut hide stretch and purse as it prepares to speak again. One sssoul of an innocccent for each passsage of night in thisss realm... If thisss you acquiessst to, then we find ourssselvesss in an accord... The creature extends one clawed hand to shake in agreement.

Ke'Sha is pleased with the demon display (OOC: that means the image was loaded perfectly ;) ). He removes his hoodie and stretches his hand out. "Fair bargain and it suit us well." As the demon approaches Ke'Sha tightens it's grip and whispers binding spells, dark fog appears from nowhere and swirls around the two, and whispers from the underworld are faintly heard, a moment later, red flash appears behind his eye balls, lighting dimly his skull, then his hand burns and everything falls to dead quiet.
"Our deal is sealed. Let's not delay your... prize. We are to fetch three humans and turn to our service. Their souls are yours, their flesh mine."

==================================================================================
(OOC: Tough bargain, but I like the gameplay!
So the idea is to find a nearby tribe. Gur can fly up invisible and navigate more easily. I think their mental connection is up to one mile. Allakhain can turn them all ethereal and maybe that can haste the search. With the trolls and the Varragoind I hope it won't be too difficult to kidnap three persons from the village, keeping hidden, maybe even in their sleep. Does Allakhain has silence / invisibility spells? If things goes badly, Ke'Sha will summon fire elemental to cast havoc on the village.
If this process goes well, next thing is to get away (again, ethereal would be great as it will leave no trail) and turn two persons into ju-jus (assuming undead form, draining their life and reviving them as zombies) and one into a wight.
Then it's two more creatures and we are set. )

[Ooc] Allikhain doesn't have any invisibility. In fact Illusion is a forbidden school for Necromancers, so . she can never learn it.[/ooc]

The Varrangoin grips his hand tightly, clawed fingers scratching the wrist and hand as they shake. Tiny drops of blood smear between their hands as the deal is sealed. Gur flies high above the trees and begins his search, grumbling the whole time.

So gur is flying around invisible. does Ke'Sha want the rest of their group to search and how?

(OOC: He does have idea and Genius. I'd believe if he shares Gur vision and with one of this spell casts, he might have good chance to spot tracks of natives or even their village.)
