Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
"You don't have a hook? Didn't they offer you one when you purchased your rope? What kind of sale person were you dealing with?"
"Sue do you still have some nails/spikes?"
The mage hand can carry 10 pounds and I can perform simple tasks like turning a door handle. I would think the mage hand can carry the rope across with ease and be able to make a knot with the rope around the ladder stair case. What's the ruling on this one?
He can move the mage hand 30 feet so it should work. To make the knot stronger we can pull on the rope on our end every time the mage hand does a loop around the ladder.

Sure, no problemcounterkid wrote:... I would think the mage hand can carry the rope across with ease...
Tying a knot one-handed is difficult unless practised a lot. I think Sleight of Hand skill check would apply here. A grappling hook would avoid the check altogether though.counterkid wrote:... Jim will scrounge through his pack and present his folding grapnel hook. "I thought this might come in handy."

Ah Jim, if I didn't have to save your ass so much I could kiss you!" Sue would likely have some practice tying a hook on from his time in the service.
"Did you also happen to keep those spikes we had from the doors in the Undermountain?"

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Woody will dismiss the original mage hand and cast a new one once it is tide to the rope.
Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
After robustly attaching the rope onto the grappling hook, Woody find his Mage hand can lift the grappling hook and about twenety five foot of the hemp rope.
He locates the grappling hook securely in place on one of the iron rungs.
Pulling hard on the rope confirms the solidity of the rung.
One end secured!

Jim checks his pack again and comes up shaking his head. "No spikes, perhaps you could cut some teeth out of that tentacled thing that was hanging off the ceiling that chewed up my darts? Do you think that might work?"
Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Woody, could we use one of your spells to hold it in place? How strong is that hand? Or maybe this disk thing you keep wanting to cast."

"The disk will not work in this situation. It's made of force and I can't see how we would tie a rope around it. I have no more tools or spells to help us. Should we just turn around and forget this meeting? Doesn't look like we are going to get there."
"Since we have no more equipment to help us we have two options. Turn back or keep going down the sewer in the opposite direction." "Do you want me to retrieve the grappling?"

"Could you use it to trap the rope against the wall?"

"It's plausible. I never try that. If I move 20' away from the disk it will follow me. Since the ladder on the other side is 15' away we should be ok. It can also hold 500 pounds. It's worth a try."
"Do we have ten minutes or do you want me to cast it right away." "I say we get a move on it so I'm willing to cast it right away." "Sue you will need to hold the rope just over three feet above the ground along the wall as the disk will be 3 feet above the ground."
If the party agree. Sue will hold the rope up against the wall. Woody will cast it to make sure the 3 foot diameter pins it against the wall 3' above the ground.

Woody will cast the disk using a spell slot. Does it work?

Watching the two set up the rope Jim comments "I suppose it is only fair that I test it since you two built it. I'll go first if there are no objections."
