What Are Immortals!

Special Notes

In Vastonia I have combined AD&D's official rules and the legends of Highlander the movie. Together I'm sure this combination makes for a far more exciting campaign than the original AD&D rules. On a further note, it allows my Immortals the opportunity to become way more powerful than that of normal AD&D and the presence of an Immortal should NOT be taken lightly.

In Vastonia, Immortals are beings of eternal life and great power. Some of which are protectors of heroes, some sponsors of evil and others simple watchers of the realm.

Most Immortals within Vastonia were at one time or another former Mortals, whether human, demi human, humanoid or some other being. During their mortal life, these people somehow gained the knowledge that there was another, higher level of existence and set goals for themselves to attain that level.

Each of these Mortals beseeched Immortal mentors; undertaking near impossible tasks attempting to prove their worth in becoming divine beings; and the ones wise enough, thereafter, attained Immortality.

However there are a few Immortals which existed before Mortal man and have grown to extreme levels of power, representing what remains of Vastonia's magnificent origin. These beings are referred to as divine representatives, and hold great power in each of the collective divinates as Hierarchs of the 5 Sphere's of Power. This will be discussed in further detail at a later time.

Immortals do NOT die of old age, disease or damage, though it is possible for an Immortal to die under special circumstances (see When Immortals Clash) for details. They do not need to eat, drink or breathe, although all of these activities are greatly enjoyed.

They possess powers which only Mortals dream of, including spell casting ability, which far exceeds normal Mortal magic capabilities and are completely immune to the magic cast by that of Mortals.

All Immortals live in supernatural places of existence and visit the Mortal Plane only in times of extreme need, personal tasks or in times of Immortal conflict.

Immortal Goals

An Immortal seeks to advance the influence of their Sphere, gain personal power and achieve personal goals whether this being through Mortal manipulation or otherwise.

Immortals advance their Spheres by countering/slaying the members of opposing Spheres and by increasing their overall knowledge of the multiverse They gain personal power by serving greater Immortals who may reward them with advancements of power, but generally gain power through the slaying of other Immortals, called a Quickening.

Immortals also have personal goals and interests. For example Odin, a former Mortal warlord who now lives eternity in the halls of Valhalla as god of the norse people. Seeks not to slay other Immortals, but rather - promotes his followers and clerics to spread the word of wise ruling and peaceful existence, through either the skills of a warrior or through the proper use of magic hopefully leading to long prosperous lives.

The Sphere's of Power and Immortals

Each Sphere is a source of power in the multiverse. Every Immortal is a servant of one, and ONLY one. In order for someone to attain Immortality he/she must first gain the patronage of an existing Immortal. That Immortal is the servant of one specific Sphere or collective divinate. All Immortals belonging to the same Sphere and have a common interest - the advancement and preservation of their collective Spheres. Although they are far from a cooperative team or united whole. Remember that Immortals were once different races, different classes and had different outlooks on life (alignments). They work together to advance their Spheres but also plot against one another to accomplish personal goals and/or interests. In the end THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!!!
