When Immortals Clash!

With infinite lifespans and great power, Immortals have all the time in the multiverse to accomplish their goals. The only thing which stands between them are other Immortals. Not every Immortal have the same desires; most of them dislike the others just as fighters and magic-users do. If there is anything that can stop an Immortal from completing their goals it's another Immortal with opposing goals.

Immortals never confine their conflicts to themselves. They make plots which involve the Prime Material Plane, and by doing so interfere with either the Mortals, monsters or other Immortals - anyone standing in their way - and anything which may help them complete their objectives.

Whatever the reason, when Immortals clash it's never an insignificant occurrence. There's always a piece of the multiverse at stake, and any Mortal who is fortunate enough to witnesses one of these epic battles will watch with the utmost awe.

Immortals and Combat

Immortals never need to make morale checks, like player character's they can choose their actions and intentions to further their goals. When involved with Mortals, almost all Immortals find it an insult to their dignity to engage in personal combat and will usually use their innate powers of teleportation to leave the scene. Only to later act in against the offender(s) at their own convenience. Any Immortal who does stay and fight to the bitter end, will never fight to the death (ie the temporary banishment of their manifestation forms) unless the fate of his or her Sphere depends on it. In general only Immortals who take delight in personal combat with Mortals will stay and melee with them.

Death of Immortals

If ever an Immortal is slain on the Prime Material Plane their spirit returns to it's home plane and re-manifests into the Immortals original form almost immediately. The Immortal is now banished to that plane for a number of days equal to their full hitpoint total. During this time the Immortal in question cannot leave the plane for any reason, short of being permanently slain.

All Immortals automatically return to their true forms upon entering the outer-planes and cannot shape change or manifest into any form, Mortal or otherwise. If ever an Immortal is slain on his or her home plane they are forever destroyed, never returning under any circumstance. However, even the dumbest Immortals will use their innate powers to escape personal demise, that is unless they are honorably challenged to personal combat. In this case they can only refuse the contest and be stripped of their Immortal rank.

Being Stripped of Rank

If ever a time occurs when an Immortal refuses a personal contest of Immortal combat, they are stripped of their ranking, thus enacting one of the codes in which all Immortals are forever bound by. The closest Mortal example of this occurrence is when a Mortal is drained of life energy (the loss of energy levels). Any Immortal stripped of rank suffer a decrease of 1 level. Thus a 36 level Empyreal Immortal refuses a contest against an Immortal of 45 level. The challenger gains nothing but gratitude and honor, while the Immortal who refused the fight loses 1 level of experience and is reduced to 35th level.

There may be a time where a particularly dishonorable Immortal chooses to attack the Immortal refusing his challenge. In such cases the dishonorable Immortal usually wins the contest and receives a Quickening, but such acts are considered utmost disgraceful and the offender is considered open prey for all other Immortals, whether it breaks the code or not. This includes any acts of vengeance; two on ones, unfair confrontations etc., until the offender pays for their dishonorable actions. This generally means the loss of their heads.
