Gladius
- Wellington!
Gladius
is by far the largest spectacle of entertainment in Vastonia. Here thousands
gather to pay respect to the mighty gladiators of Vastonia, who fight for
their lives within a ring of eminent death. Gladius rests in the central region
of Wellington, a Human kingdom which claims it's land within the western district.
Once
every year a massive pilgrimage is made to this location, drawing some of
the best warriors in all the land, along with many others who wish to partake
in this historic event of mass bloodshed. Here warriors have no friends and
only the most clever and heartless live to see the glory of triumph.
Gladius
can hold up to 18,000 patrons within it's immediate stands. However many outer
platforms (ones made of wooden slats and poles) are often constructed to support
the massive number of spectators who can't afford the price of admission,
yet still wish to see the carnage. Those who seek to enter beyond the front
gates must pay a small toll of five sp/ head. All others must gather outside
the walls of this massive arena.
In
Vastonia, gladiator arenas vary in a many ways then those of the Roman period
we have all come to know. Here competitors fight giant cave bears, half-giants,
lizarians, renders and other monsters of mass chaos. During times of the Grand
Festival of Arms. Gladiators pit themselves against other gladiators in hope
for the ultimate prize, which is most likely a ticket to freedom. Whoever
stands alone at the end of this tournament, reigns supreme as Vastonia's champion
(master of armed combat) and may receive a gift recognizing his unique accomplishments.
Only
one tournament rivals the festival of arms, this being the Dumite.
However that competition celebrates the best warriors of hand to hand combat
and has many restrictions towards who can and cannot participate. Gladius
hails to none and welcomes any man, woman or beast which finds their way into
a gladiator shoot.
Gladiators
fear nothing and relish at the chance to cleave down another participant.
They seek glory and strive to become the center of attention. Forgiveness
and mercy is for the weak, while bloodshed and victory drives their passion
for supremacy. So if blood and gore, hacking and slashing are your motives
in Vastonia, don't forget Gladius's unforgiving walls of battle.
