What I've Been Doing Lately

Some of you may have noticed I've not been on much over the last several weeks. I've been a bachlore while my wife was away on a course for her work for 2 straight weeks and I was attempting to build a surprise for her while she was gone for our anniversary. I finally found what I was after and did an 8 day total rebuild on this project. I spent approximately 16-20 hours a day working on it constantly. I barely ate, had not seen my kids over this time as I needed total commitment to get it done (so they were pawned off on babysitters).

Here is what I did (ground up resto);
Exterior paint, body work galore, and almost all chrome restored.
Interior including full floor pan restoration, rust inhibitor everywhere, wiring, dash painted, new console and dash, door panels etc.

I spent 8 days full out and didn't quite get all the chrome back on before my wife pulled into the yard with all the neighbors and people who helped me out during this time all awaiting her arrival.

The garage door was down and I had my 5 year old son hand her a set of keys when she got out and we all said "happy birth day mom!" and I said quietly... happy anniversary wife :)

It was amazing to do something like this for someone who is NOT into cars. The sheer nerves of spending that kind of money on something your spouse might hate is super nerve racking... but all went well... she loves it! Drive it almost daily now :)

For those interested;

It's a 1967 Mustang Notchback (coupe), with a 302 CID engine, auto (3 speed).
Has magnum 500 rims and BF goodrich radials all round.
Custom Billet grill
Custom polar white GT stripes done to 1967 lemans specs.
Base color is "Nightmist Blue" a factory color in 67 and this car's original color.

Thanks Cz :) Are you a car dude? I'm into muscle cars big time. I was raised a red-neck per-say and have always owned something cool. I was trying to curb my wife's interests into something more along my line of interest. Having something in common was quickly becoming a priority around here. I'm glad you like it. Women love the stangs ;)

It's quite fun to drive, even though it's arm-strong steering and drum brakes. Nostalgic big time for allot of folks around here. I've already had 9 offers to buy it cash. Told my wife if she wants to sell it, go for it ... it's HER car. But I think the guilt would kill her inside knowing that her 5 year old son paid for the custom grill on it with his entire life's piggie bank savings. :lol:

Nice job.
When I first saw it, I thought it looked like my former boss' '68 'stang. I was close, at least.

Haha, nice Stik! No this isn't no BOSS. However is is nicely done up for a 302 (5.0L). It's got posi 9inch rear... my car doesn't :( I'm a little jealous of that. Yet this stang has no chance at whooping my cougar in any sort of race. I told my wife, there is no substitute for Cubic Inches :up:

You misunderstand me sir. I didn't mean I had a Boss Mustang. I meant that my former boss (the guy I used to work for) had a 1968 Mustang. He did a very nice restoration of a 68 Mustang convertible; numbers-matching, original color paint, the whole thing. They he put power windows in it (they weren't available in the '68) because he thought rolling up windows was inconvenient. Some people...

I've never had a muscle car, although I did used to drive an '83 Toyota Supra, which was pretty fast and handled great. It was quicker off the line than the Porsche 928 that my other former boss (business partner of the guy with the 68 Mustang) used to drive.

The closest I ever came when I was younger, was a Chevy Chevelle - color: primer!
Coolest thing about that car, besides the quick pick up and non color, was it had an 8-track. That car was just tons of fun. I was always cheap with cars though. When I bought my mothers car off her when I was 20 something, it ran great (some small white car, forget the make) so I didn't put any money into it, which annoyed my friends because it was a white car, with pink hubcaps, fuzzy pink seats, hells it even had pink windshield wipers!
