The Dragon lance supplement entitled "Time of the Twins" for 3.5 D&D touches on this type of campaign. Pretty much explores all sorts of alternate pasts and futures based upon say changes in characters actions and choices. The 3rd party ogl DL material wasn't bad. It was produced with the Dl authors Weis and Hickmans assistance. Hope that helps you.
