Out of Character discussion

The 2E AD&D Homebrew Sandbox world of Genwald is large, ancient, and magical. There are many undiscovered/untamed places. The Sun Kingdom (European style, Late Medieval Human NG Monarchy) is the basic Campaign area, but PCs can end up anywhere.

The scars of ancient battles of titanic proportions mark the land. Wild magic zones, fantastical terrain, grand adventure, political strife, and even artifacts of wonder await. Choose your part and come make your mark on the world. A wide array of unconventional races and classes are available.

Half the party basically 1 rounded 4 goblins. The other is preparing to run, but if someone gets a better init they can stop him. The first goblin survived the 5 damage katten did long enough to cry out. Whether or not anything not in the room heard him remains to be seen.

Yes, the dwarf has claustrophobia (Sundered Dwarves must save vs death or refuse to go underground.). He is currently guarding the entrance from above in his private thread. I have some stuff foing for him.

Party list:
Feliz (cat-person) Ranger: Katten, played by Jenara
Minotaur Ranger/Mage: Garroth, played by Ausie
Elven Fighter/Cleric: Nocturno, played by... Nocturno!
Drow Cleric/Mage/Theif: Linar, played by Chris1234
Elven Illusionist: Vanidur, played by Sol Mazer
Human Fighter (specially made martial arts kit): Elden, played by Rivi
Sundered Dwarf Fighter (Beast-Rider kit): Boyd, played by Stik

Fighting types: 3 single class, 2 Multi-class
Cleric types: 2 Multi-class
Magic types: 1 single class, 2 Multi-class
Thief types: 1 Multi-class

And is our dwarf a claustrophobic? Did I read that right?
Sundered dwarves need to make a saving throw to voluntarily go underground.
It's a bit of an obstacle if your dice are not friendly.

How are you doing initiative?

Strictly speaking, if individual Init is being used, PCs should roll Init each round.. and there is no such thing as carry over initiative in 2nd edition.

I've rolled Init for Garroth using his weapon speed 1 weapon (twin thrown daggers). But I Have t seen any other PC rolls..

From the rules thread:

Gameplay Rules
...
Initiative
I typically use individual initiative along with wep/spell/conditional modifiers.

A character dual-wielding would hit with both weapons about the same time, the main hand hitting an instant earlier. A fighter with multiple attacks due to specialization takes his first normally, and the second after everyone has gone at least once.

For this game I will have PCs roll initiative only once per combat for simplicity sake. Modifiers to the die roll will still apply based on the action taken that round.

Example:
Bob the mage rolls a 1d10 for initiative on his first round of combat. He rolls a 4 (the 4 will be his base number each round) and decides to cast magic missile. His init this round is 5 [4+casting time of 1]. The next round he decides to cast Melf’s Acid Arrow with a casting time of 2, so his initiative the second round is 6 [4+2]. Etc. ...

Thanks Nocturno.

As he says, it's basically a simplified/modified version of individual init.

Initiative isn't calculated in surprise rounds, hence it wasn't called for until my latest game post

Awesome... thanks! Not many use the proper individual Init rules with weapon and spell modifies, but I do like it...

Just to make it clear.
Katten. Asked "Do you speak Goblin" in goblin. And the arrow question was to the DM.
If I.put things in brackets it's because it's Ooc.. and im typing on a phone so I might forget to say Ooc.

Hope that clears things up.

Yeah! That does-> I thought your Goblin use was translated in the parenthesis/ brackets of "Did any survive?" I'll cop to thinking it was about the goblins... Lost the arrows part in the reading.

My stuff for the DM will be set off with OOC:

I am not going to chase down any language for the English equivalent- time constraints. I will post my "other languages" in Italics with a note on which language.
Ex. Van replies in Elvin, "Ah, this cave is dark! So glad I brought this staff. Did I tell you how I got it?" Van continues predictably for three posts.

I'm posting 100% from my phone.... sorry for any misspellings or punctuation jam ups. Most of my edits are to deal with bs that my phone typoed for me.
Low rolls make things more interesting!

Does Elden really want to block the others while Nocturno is trying to draw the enemy back so everyone can get at them?

@Nobody in particular - Never mess with a feline whose claws are unsheathed.

@Tristen - please can you clarify something on the map - apart from the way we came in, is there just one exit (to the N) where the 3 goblins have just entered? Or is there a further exit (to the W) behind where the gong stands?

Linar and Katten follow a short straight-away to find the corridor widens. The chamber opens up to either side, and the roof rises to a height of at least 8 feet. Several passages branch from the small chamber; one north, one west, and a pair nearby to the south which may be connected. Unfortunately the room is populated by a group of 5 goblin guards, four of which are watching vigilantly. The fifth is sleeping soundly next to a large metal pot hanging from a tripod... perhaps some form of crude alarm... With the noisier members of the group behind and around a couple of corners Linar and Katten seem to have approached unnoticed.
