An errant rock flies through the air, clobbering one of the goblins Tavi faced by accident. It went down. She quickly cuts down the other goblin, then looks toward her companions. She hears Arvin speaking rapidly in elvish. Hopping back over the log, she slices at a goblin attacking Barlemus from behind, causing it to whirl around to face her.

Suddenly, the ground begins to rumble. To her great surprise, as well as that of the goblins, the tree to the south of her begins to stir, then shake. It comes to life, attempting to swat at the two goblins in its bough. It knocks one out, which falls to the ground, lifeless. The other one holds on for dear life, screaming in its own language.

Tavi seems a little startled when she sees the tree just beside her suddenly come to life. Though, maybe she was imagining things through the pain she was feeling. She couldn't let something like a tree coming to life distract her from the task at hand. Quickly, she slashes her sword at the goblin facing her.

Attack Roll (19, hit)
Damage Roll (8)

The sight of the tree suddenly coming to life and attacking them spooks the entire goblin squad. All of them begin fleeing in panic, running for their lives as nature itself turns on them. When Tavi's opponent turns its back on her, she cuts it down. Barlemus, Arvin and the tree all take out a few fleeing goblins as they run, as well.

Barlemus, woozy from blood loss, turns toward the tree, his sword at the ready. Arvin quickly intervenes. "Easy. It's okay." The elf turns back to the tree and says in Elvish, "My thanks for your aid, friend tree."

Two eyes and a mouth form on the tree's bark and then it speaks back, in Elvish, slowly and with a gravely voice. "Thank me not, friend elf. I simply did not like those vermin climbing in mine bough. Filthy creatures, they be."

Tavi stares at the talking tree with wide eyes. She had never seen anything like it before! Thankfully, it seemed like it was on there side, so she relaxed a little bit. "I don't imagine anyone climbing upon you would be a nice feeling," she says to the tree with a light smile.

Tavi looks to Barlemus and to Arvin. "I don't think it would be a good idea to continue on. I'm not exactly feeling great right now, and Barlemus isn't looking so good either."

"I'm...I'm fine," Barlemus insists. "Just a few scrapes and bumps." Even in the moonlight, Tavi can see him swaying slightly, barely able to keep his blackened blade, wet with goblin blood, up. She can't see the full extend of his injuries, but she does spot a trickle of blood running down his face, indicating he had been hit in the head.

"Perhaps so," Arvin says in agreement. "They managed to get the jump on us. Were it not for this treant, they may have had us."

"You're not fine," Tavi insists before turning her attention back to Arvin. "Agreed. I was hoping to catch those ones that ran away before the caught up with the other hunting group, but it seemed like we were too late. If there is another hunting party out tonight, those others that ran off will probably warn them. They might be able to ambush us again, and we aren't in any condition now to deal with it."

"I agree," Arvin says. He goes to collect what arrows he can from the battlefield.

"And a fine nap I was having, too," the treant laments. "Damnable creatures."

Barlemus wipes off his sword and sheathes it, then sits down a moment to catch his breath.

Tavi checks the goblins that were killed for anything of value before the group decides to depart. "I've been thinking," she starts softly. "Maybe we should back off for a night, with how prepared they are becoming for us," she says thoughtfully.

Searching the goblins, Tavi finds 16 gold pieces and a silver.

"We could probably use an extra day of rest, too," Arvin agrees. "Even with Petal's poultices, it will take time to recover from these wounds."

Tavi pockets the money, and rejoins the rest of the group. "I agree. Barlemus, do you need some help?" she asks as she approaches him.

The warrior gets to his feet, albeit a bit unsteadily. "Nah, I'm fine. I've taken way worst beatings than this, lots of times."

"Hmm, that explains a few things," Arvin mutters in Elvish.

Tavi snickers lightly to Arvin as she places her hand on Barlemus' arm to help keep him steady. "We should get moving. We all look like we could use a lot of rest."

"Indeed," Arvin says. Turning to the treant, he says, "Farewell, friend tree. And once again, our thanks."

"May the sunlight find thee, thy days be long, thy winters kind, and thy roots be strong," the treant responds.

"Ut," Barlemus mutters. "Never knew trees could walk and talk. And fight."

"It is a good thing they know how too," Tavi says in awe. "Otherwise, we would have been in trouble." Naturally, she was just as confused as to why a tree could talk, fight, and walk. She figured it was an elven thing, as she somewhat remembers Arvin speaking in elvish when she ran by him to attack a goblin.

"This is no ordinary tree," Arvin explains in Common. "It is a treant, an evil-hating race of intelligent beings that can speak to ordinary trees and even command them."
