Kybalion moves towards the registry, doing his best to keep his armor from jingling. As he approaches the counter he hears someone emerge from the curtained area behind him. For a moment the ambiance of a rowdy tavern echoes into the hall before the curtain draws again. An unfamiliar voice calls down the hall, Qu’est-ce que c’est que ce bordel ?! The shout gives the dozing clerk a jolt as he snorts awake. Sitting up, the old man scrubs at bleary eyes.

Glancing back, Kybalion sees perhaps one of the largest men he has ever encountered. The stranger towers over the others present, and his chest and arms are heavily muscled to the point it looks like he could throw a normal person in full-plate without too much effort. The dark-haired local man Airand speaks up in Elven. It's alright, Haldrake, he's with us looking for the killer.

In Elven and keeping pace with the big guy. "I lost sight as it approached the building. The mist made it hard to track."

Kybalion’s face twists into a puzzled expression as the strange language is uttered and the noise from further within the building wafts through. “You know of the red mist that entered here?” He asks the desk attendant.

The desk attendant seems confused at the question about red mist, but the newly arrived larger man waves him off. Forget it, Herschel. We may have an 'uninvited guest', so we're going to check the rooms. Are any occupied and I'm going to need the master key.

The old man's rummages around and hands the big man a key, Ah, of course Monsieur Moonbaum. Hmm... He tips the short spectacles up as he scans the rust-colored scrawls in the registration book. There are a pair of woodcutters staying upstairs, and some few in the common area. But other than that the rooms are vacant. Haldrake takes the key and says something in that musical language.

Moving to the door beyond, Haldrake opens it to reveal the hallway beyond which wraps around to the right. Unlocking the first room he peers inside but finds it empty before moving on to the next...

Musty air drains out of the room, washing out like stagnant water. Within the room, all is dark. Once your eyes adjust, you can see that the beds at the Old Kartakan Inn are made of sturdy iron frames with plenty of blankets on top. Next to each bed is a conveniently placed little table containing an oil lantern. The shutters are closed, latched, and barred with a thick board. You can see an iron holder built onto the door frame for securing a large beam across the three inch thick oak door. Just such a beam rests beside the door, so security is obviously not a problem when the rooms are occupied.

if anyone wants to try to understand the aside give me a % roll for your Harmonian lang check (it's about 5% for Kybalion, 17% for Pyros).

The burly bartender shakes his head, Just getting him to spread the word to others to keep an eye out. Haldrake re-locks the first room and opens the second to find it vacant as well.

Airand moves past to the common quarters which remain unlocked. A trio of workers blink bleary-eyed at the hall's lamplight filters in, none bearing any resemblance to the subject of their search. Jerry peers intently inside as each door is opened

"Are there areas around the Inn or behind the falls. Just because we lost sight of the mist here in the mist doesn't mean he stayed here. Maybe a basement? Jerry don't they like dank ignored areas? I mean if I was hiding out, I wouldn't be in an Inn common room."

Pyros is shadowing the Haldrake.

Kybalion follows along as the search continues. He keeps his head on a swivel.

I have no idea if there is anything behind the falls, I've never heard of there being. The falls are across the water, but of you want go out there and check, be my guest. I'm just making sure thag thing isn't in my Inn.

Jerry nods at Pyros' remarks. Creatures like that typically appreciate secluded places of death and desolation, but if it was just trying to escape it may have come here. the Half-elf muses, Of course, in the fog, it could simply have traveled past the inn to throw us off...

Haldrake checks the next two rooms which are likewise empty. He backtracks around to the stairs that lead up to the guest rooms on the second floor. I'm going to check up stairs. The only cellar here is the one under the kitchen. You can check with 'Beeter', the cook, if you want. There is the stable too.

====
There are a few options. They can check :
-the kitchen cellar with the cook,
-upstairs guest rooms with Haldrake,
-the stables
-the employee rooms,
-somewhere outside

"Someone care to come with me to the Kitchen? I don't want to lose my invisibility advantage yet." A disembodied Pyros will say as he heads to the kitchen

Kybalion: “I will go with you to the kitchen. I’m sure sure the mist is there but definitely want to help keep an edge of surprise on our side. Let’s go.”

Airand follows Haldrake upstairs while Pyros, Jerry and Kybalion make their way towards the kitchen. As they pass the reception they note the old man is missing.

First they pass through the Common seating area, though at this late hour there are no patrons eating. Although this large room is kept fairly dark to promote a sense of intimacy, it is obviously a dining hall. Well constructed tables are scattered about thisroom in an orderly manner. Despite the fact that they are modestly set, a short, thick candle burns inside asphere of red glass at the center of each table. At first glance, it is easy to mistake these pinpoints of lightfor the burning eyes of feral creatures. The smell of good food, while present throughout the inn, is overwhelming here. It is easy to see why the Old Kartakan Inn has acquired its reputation for fine dining.

Although the only thing that sets this area off from the Commoners' Seating is a plainly designed pillar some 4' in diameter, the atmosphere here is quite different. These tables are set with fine china and ornate utensils. Crystal goblets stand ready to befilled and cheerful lanterns provide a warm, comforting light. To the north and south, two other dining areas are sunken beneath the floor level so as not to obscure the view of the Cauldron. The view during daylight hours must be spectacular, but in the night the constantly moving chiaroscuro of shadow among the mist and flickers of moonlight on the tips of the Cauldron's choppy water evoke an eerie unease... A large fireplace is set on the western wall, and a roaring fire is kept burning to ward off the chill. Flanking the fireplace are two arches, each fashioned to look like waterfalls. The aroma of cooking foods clearly comes from beyond these portals...

Pushing through the door they reach the Kitchen... It proves a well-appointed, if somewhat utilitarian. The aroma of cooking food fills the air here and leaves a wonderful taste in your mouth. A great variety of foods are stored in boxes, barrels, and sacks around the kitchen. While most of the items are familiar, some are quite exotic. A large, black iron stove dominates the western wall. Numerous pots and pans either rest atop thes tove or hang from hooks on the walls around it. A heavy, chopping table stands in the center ofthe room with a variety of knives and various cooking utensils scattered about its surface. Every square inch of spare space is taken up with shelves or hanging utensils.

A large man with a long iron fork in his hand tests the doneness of some blood-red dome-shaped items on a roasting tray; the scent of aweet and spice filling the area. The receptionist is speaking to him in thag musicsl language, but stops when the others arrive

Can Pyros make it out?

Can he sneak around apart of the visible members, and try to over hear anything?

[Ooc] Yeah, Pyros can sneak out pretty easily. Where does he want to go?[/ooc]

The chef nods and looks to Jerry and Kybalion. My name is Heinstock, but most people just call me 'Beeter'. He sticks his powerful hand out to shake. I'll show you the cellar if you want, like Haldrake asked, but I don't think anything could get in there past me. I've been here all day. He says in Elven.
