Ruehar continues forward, trying to find a spot where he can let his infravision take over.

Trying to make out if there's anything concealed behind what seems to be a boulder up ahead, Ruehar continues creeping into the cave, not seeing, but kicking a stone. It sounds unnervingly loud.
Ruehar hears an altogether different sound ahead. The whistling had stopped, and the 'boulder', maybe 15' ahead deep in shadow moves, issueing a deep bellow, "Foooog Oooth Heeeraal!"

Scant seconds later Ruehar feels a stabbing pain in his back. {10HP dam, 2 dice, near min damage}.
Elven reactions avoid complete surprise.

As the Trash Ogre (formerly known as 'boulder') wakes up in what might be an angry mood, Ruehar half turns {+1 penalty to Init for round 1} to see the silhouette of a man, maybe 6' tall, broad of shoulder, scraggy hair clutching something, maybe swords, in each hand. There's no sign of Cheff as yet.

Combat.
Initiatives, intentions and any appropriate/related rolls for round 1.

[Ooc: sonova]

Ambush! Ogre! Ruehar calls towards the entrance (to cheff) as he drops his bow and fumbles for spell components to put the stabby little bugger to sleep.

====
Casting sleep on stabby McGee, centering it so cheff won't be in the AoE. Trying to center it so both the Ogre and sir scraggly are in the 30 ft area. Hoping elven resistance to sleep will keep me up.
Sleep casting time 1 segment
penalty 1 segment

RK001 spell components, init, spell hd [1d4] = 4, [1d10] = 8, [2d4] = 5
Init roll 8 (+1 penalty, -4 dex, -1 gh) = 3 seg
Components scramble (4-1gh) = 3 seg,
casting time 1 seg =>

So seg 4 begin to act, seg 7 finish getting components, seg 8 sleep spell (hopefully) goes off affecting 5HD worth of creatures

Ruehar drops his bow onto uneven hard stone. {OOC: RK001 dropped bow [1d20] = 13}
It make a worrying "k-thunk-crack" noise.

Before the elf shouts for help from Cheff and and starts to get his components out, the broad-shouldered attacker steps forwards and slices at him with a dagger {Init -3, hits AC2, 6 dam}.
The blade strikes so early that it doesn't even give Ruehar the opportunity to drop his spell components.
Hastily getting his pinch of sand out, Ruehar utters the harsh syllable of the Sleep spell {Init 2} centered mid-way between the ogre and the brigand.
The nimble brigand slumps theatrically to the ground, dropping his rapier {was init 4} and snores gently.
There's a fumbling noise from the mouth of the cave and Cheff saying something, possibly swearing in a foreign language. {OOC: Roll d20 equal or under Wis to realize Cheff got caught on the gate}
The ogre continues moving, making grunting noises, clearly not asleep, and is about to stand up.

What next?
{OOC: Don't forget to try to resist the Sleep spell, including GH}

======
OOC: rule clarifications:
Provided you don't move, you can cast a spell in the same round as getting out spell components.
In as round where you cast a spell, you commit to casting before init is rolled and then don't roll initiative.
1d4: 4 for components, reduced to 1 (actually to -1 by Dex & GH, but it's minimum 1).
So, penalty 1, drops bow (free action), pulls out components on 2, casts spell on 3.

Hating to use up his second sleep spell so soon, Ruehar snatches up his bow and backs moves back towards the gate with cheff. He quickly loads and fires, hoping the bow wasn't damaged.

[Ooc: you can make the rolls, I'm not sure what all the modifiers are here]
=======
RK001 wis check, sleep resistance [1d20] = 1[1d100] = 65:
Wis or lower: 1d20=1 pass perfect
Sleep resistance 1d100-1(gh): 64% (need 90 or lower, pass)

In the haste to snatch up his bow, RK knocks it some inches across the floor wasting valuable seconds.
Just as the still sleepy ogre sits up, the elf fires an arrow at him, catching it in the flabby love-handles, and provoking a roar of pain.
While Ruehar hasn't had time to retreat, neither has the ogre completely stood up. It's likely that he has now fully woken up.

"By Thor's hammer! What was that?" comes Cheff's voice from the cave entrance.

Rnd 2: Intentions and all relevant rolls.
======
RK init 5 -1 GH + 5 to pick up = 9, fire on 10, no movement.
Ogre init 6 + 9 to stand up (so sitting on 10, -3 to be hit* for reduced target size) and will be stood up on init 5 in rnd 2.
RK to hit d20 +5: 14 + 5 +1 GH,-3 reduced target, hits the ogre. Dam d8: 8+1GH (penetrates: d8-1: 4-1+1GH=+4) = 13 dam total
No modifiers for lighting now that all eyes have adjusted (apart from Cheff).
GM helpful reminder, elven bowmen can fire/half-move/fire or half-move/fire/half-move

[Ooc: yep, going for the fire/half move/fire]

Ruehar backs towards Cheff avoiding obstacles like the unconscious man, firing at the ogre repeatedly. It's only a Trash Ogre... he says blandly, take your time...

====
RK001 vs ogre init,attk1,dmg1,attk2,dmg2 [1d10] = 6[1d20] = 15[1d6] = 2[1d20] = 1[1d6] = 5
Init: 1d10=6 -4(dex) -1(gh) => segment 1
Thac0 w/shortbow 15:
Attack 1: [1d20]=15, hits AC 0 for 2 dmg
Attack 2: [1d20]=1 (F5ck)

Ruehar hastily fires at the large foe, just clipping its forearm (3 dam GH incl) and then carefully withdraws 10'.
As the ogre gets to its feet, a stone sails past the elf to strike the ogre in the side (3 dam), and it reaches ponderously for its rather large looking club.
Startled by the stone shot, RK fails to get a decent second arrow off.
Two more stones rattle past, one hitting the club harmlessly and the other hitting the ogre squarely on the nose with a crunching noise (7 dam).
"That's the last of those," comes Cheff's voice.

Rnd 3: Intentions and all relevant rolls.

======
No init roll for a readied bow. Fires on 1 and 6.
ogre stod on init 5, then 5 segments to get out its club.
Give me a d1,000 please and we'll see what happens to the bow.

[Ooc: thanks. Sorry for the delays]

=====
RK1 vs ogre bow fumble [1d1000] = 301

If bow is still usable (without breaking it) Ruehar fires 2 arrows at the ogre. If the bow is not usable, he passes the bow to his left and draws his shortsword with his right and hides. You can do the rolls depending on what is possible

Ruehar feels a searing pain in his back - a bad strain at the very least.

======
Bow is usable but Ruehar is at -2 to hit with the bow for the rest of the day.

[OoC: I guess it's still in hand and my beat chance to hit, so the bow it is.]

Ruehar grimaces at the pain, but fires his bow anyway. It was better to risk worsening the injury than to try to talk his way out of it with the ogre...

====
Thac0 15 (-2 to hit from injury)= effective
RK1 shbow [1d20] = 5[1d6] = 3[1d20] = 10[1d6] = 4
Attk 1: d20= 5 (-2) =3; hits AC12 (nothing :p but at least not a fumble: lol: )
Attk 2: d20= 10 (-2) =8; hits AC 7 for 4 dmg

Grimacing away the pain, RV looses an arrow which flies wide of its target, clearly influenced by the elf's back injury. But maybe the arrow did give the ogre pause for thought.
"That's it, come to me and I can help you," Cheff's voice announces as Ruehar retreats another 20' to the cave entrance, the camel kicking at the elf in passing, before firing another arrow that misses but not by such a wide margin.
The ogre eventually decides to ponderously advance, nasty grin on its face, as the second arrow misses its mark and a hand slaps Ruevar gently on the back .
A warmth spreads out from the area, making him feel much better.

Intentions & rolls for R4 ?
=======
Spell components + casting = init 7.
Ogre init 8 -1(club) +6 (movement) =13 = 3 next round.
Camel is tethered , so -4 to hit, +1 from side, AC9, misses.
Healed: 8HP

[Ooc: lol, bad camel! Down boy! I guess I'll just have to keep out of the tether's reach]

Thanks. Any chance you're unsnared now? Ruehar checks very quickly to see if Cheff is still caught by the gate. If cheff is still caught Ruehar will pass the bow to his left and cast sleep so that it affects the ogre (but not the camel or he and Cheff). If Cheff is free or seems likely to free himself in the coming round then Ruehar will fire at the ogre.

=======
Components [1d4-4dex-1gh] cast time 1

Ruehar grimaces from the pain that persists in his back as he sees that Cheff is free and is pulling out his unusual and rather lethal-looking morningstar.
The elf briefly considers what might fix his back. Possibly a long, hot bath. {OOC: Divine Lore roll, please}
Ruehar fires on the ogre from 10' away, nicking its forearm just as the camel kicks at it leaving a bloody welt in its leg.
The ogre hefts his huge club and slams it down where the elf had been standing a split second before (Dex).
Too close to use a bow, and too dangerous to back away {OOC: free hit}, Ruehar drops his bow and pulls out his pair of blades.

Intentions & rolls for R5 ?

===
Fumble applies until a means, mundane or magical, of addressing the sprain damage done. The Divine Lore roll, if successful, may give more information.
RK: d20+5-2:15+5-2+1(GH)=19, hit. 1d6:1+1(GH)=2dam
Camel: d20-4(tethered)+1 (side): 18-4+1=15, hit. d3:3, penetrations d3-1:2-1=1, total 4 dam.
Ogre: init 3, to hit d20+3:3+3=6, 17 dam, misses
Cheff init: d10+5-1:5=9, to hit d20+1:7+1=8, 11 dam, misses
d20 saving throw for the bow, please .

[Ooc: sorry. Hectic work stuff this week]

Ruehar doesn't relisj the idea of going toe-to-toe with the ogre, but in the confinements there seems little choice. He attempts to let the ogre focus on Chefd, and circles around behind (avoiding the camel) to attack from the rear.

=====
RK001 Divine lore, bow save [1d100] = 59[1d20] = 7

Short sword Thac0: 19
Longsword (untrained, -3 penalty) Thac0: 22
RK001 LS attk, dmg, SS attk dmg[1d20] = 7[1d12] = 10[1d20] = 15[1d8] = 3
LS: hits ac 15 (miss)
Ss: Hits AC4 for 3 dmg
RK001 init LS SS [1d10] = 2[1d10] = 9 (Accidentally used d20 for init earlier)
LS init [1d10] = 2 -4dex -1gh => -3 (missed anyway)
Ss init [1d10] = 9 -4dex -1gh -2 wep spd => seg 2
simultaneous Backstab if possible. Simple rear attack if not

So Ruehar was stabbed for 10, healed for 8 putting him at 23/25 hps?
