The Brink [of Madness] Act 1, Scene 1

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

"Well, it may be all those things you said, or just their love to Gur." He returns to their on going teasing.

He then goes to Allakhain, "Well, now that we have finished with the divination phase, let's go and start our project. Gur here wants a pet."

(OOC: If Allakhain will casts Contact other Planes, Ke'Sha will wait with his Other Plans. :)
Also, we are still on the noon/evening of the first day, right?

[It is evening the first day, yes. Allikhain will use "Contact Other Plane" if the others wish it and come up eith a list of questions. She can do up to 8 questions and choose the plane she asks it from. If she chooses Pandemonium the answers may be better but it is also a much higher risk to her sanity.]

I guess there's not really much more we need to know that they are likely to answer for us. I'd still love answers to all the other questions, but I guess they're not terribly relevant to freeing the Paladin. Unless anyone else has any suggestions?
===========================================================
[Looking through the answers we got, there are not really any more that need answering as far as guiding our exploration of the Labyrinth. There are several I would love to have answers to, but they are probably more related to out-of-Labyrinth issues than actually providing useful guidance for exploration.

Maybe: What plane or power would be the best to contact for getting accurate answers to our questions regarding the Labyrinth?

Will finding out more more about Dyris and Im-Ravin be helpful in solving the Labyrinth?

Has Sorril been transformed into a serpentine horror?]

The only lead the party has right now about the Labyrinth is the name "Vytholus", a being from the plane of Pandemonium. Whether or not that entity would be cooperative is a different matter

Those are potential questions for a divination of some kind :)

Which is why I didn't ask which plane/power could give the most accurate answers, but which one would be the best for us to contact for accurate answers. :D

Okay, let's make it official.

I just thought of a few more questions to ask, if that's alright. The powers Gur asked didn't seem to know a whole lot. The powers Ke'Sha and Allikhain contact might not know either, but they might know who would. So how about 'What plane or power would be the best for us to contact for getting accurate answers to our questions regarding the Labyrinth?'

'Will finding out more more about Dyris and Im-Ravin be helpful in solving the Labyrinth?'

'Has Sorril been transformed into a serpentine horror?'

If yes, then 'Will we have to get past said serpentine horror to reach the pool?'

And a follow up: 'Will plunging the scepter into the pool restore Sorril to his natural form?' Because I can now imagine us reaching the pool, battered and worn down, then, after plunging the scepter into the pool, freeing Sorril from the scepter, only for him to be a serpentine horror driven mad by his imprisonment-and-or-transformation that promptly attacks us. Tell me I'm wrong.

I mean, it probably won't stop us from doing it anyway, but it pays to be prepared. Along those lines, 'Is there a sage somewhere on this plane who knows about the Labyrinth, Dyris, and or Im-Ravin?' And if that's a yes, 'Who?'

Ke'Sha raises his hands in frustration. "What now? More questions?! Gur almost lost his sou... huh well, almost lost SOMEONE's soul for these questions, and I have an urgent matter to accomplish, better before the night falls..." He looks at Steve for a while hoping to hear him give up. As that doesn't happen he reluctantly says, "FINE! Help me render a Harmutzin here." seeing Steve's puzzled look Gur mentally tells Ke'Sha "You are the only one who uses such stupid words, you know? You have been alone for too many years. Must have caused you some brain damage." "WHAT WORD!?" Ke'Sha roars loudly. Gur only grins, looking satisfied at everyone staring at Ke'Sha. "Harmutzin! Hmmm... organize a circle of stones around, clear the area, be quiet. Harmutzin! Hmmm... you know, focus zone. Don't you use that as well?" He starts organizing such a place himself, looking at the surrounding for the best location, and direction that will help him clear his mind as he stares at the view, then he draw some arcane symbols around the curcle, set the stones at different structures and then put different trinkets at the different locations. Finally he draws another inner circle, connects points lying on the outer circle with points on the inner circle, and on each line he whispers some words, as he concentrate on the lines, almost unheard but nevertheless anyone who hears the whisper shivers to their bones.

Once all is set Ke'Sha looks at Allakhain in expectation... and waits, and waits a little longer... then, "Un-fortunately, " he grins, "I don't have relevant divination spells prepared, if that's why you are waiting for... but I'll watch over you and help you in anyway I can. You can even look at my holy symbol if it helps you focus, or contemplate on the meaning of living in the astral plane while time and space has no measurement there, so does one actually lives there or not?"

=============================================================================================
(OOC: If that's OK Allakhain can ask the questions suggested by Steve and then we can continue to creating a ju-ju zombie. ;) )

So your questions are:

-What plane or power would be the best for us to contact for getting accurate answers to our questions regarding the Labyrinth?'

-Will finding out more more about Dyris and Im-Ravin be helpful in solving the Labyrinth?'

-'Has Sorril been transformed into a serpentine horror?'

“If yes, then 'Will we have to get past said serpentine horror to reach the pool?'

“Will plunging the scepter into the pool restore Sorril to his natural form?'

-'Is there a sage somewhere on this plane who knows about the Labyrinth, Dyris, and or Im-Ravin?'

-If that's a yes, 'Who?'”

She pauses, I should ve able to ask one more question, but do you have a preference for what power should I should ask?

Stephen furrows his brow. “Hmm... how about 'Has Sir Sorril's psyche been damaged by his imprisonment in such a way that he won't recognize someone attempting to rescue him?'

"Bahh, you give the *PALADIN*" Ke'Sha almost spits the word, "too much credit." he then looks at Allakhain impatiently.

Allikhain regards the others. So that is our eith question. But do you have a preference of who to ask? Otherwise I will choose someone.

She smiles sweetly at Ke'Sha's impatience. I'm ready when you two are. Shall I begin. She asks with a small smirk

I'm certain you have far more experience than I when it comes to dealing with extra-planar entities. I will bow to your expertise. Unless anyone else has a suggestion?

The Raven haired necromancer clears a spot to sit, and assumes a cross-legged posture. Closing her eyes she arranges her hands one above the center of her forehead and the other tucked against the center of her abdomen. Thumbs meet forefingers with the others fanning out pointed to heaven and downward respectively. Her lips move almost imperceptibly as she whispers her chant. A breeze begins to pick up, sweeping through camp and swirling about the woman. Allikhain's voice rises slightly and a few words can be made out I call... darkness... depths... the earth... Pandemonium itself, heed... The wind intensifies, roaring and wailing between the tents and structures. Several nearby laborers cry out in alarm and struggle to prevent things from tumbling away. Likewise the mage's chant increases in volume to be heard above the din. I call to you, Ibrandul: Lurker in the Darkness, Lord of the Dry Depths, Master of the dark places in the earth and God of Pandemonium itself, heed my call...

Her eyes snap open, no longer the stunning violet Iris but all is clouded as if staring into a swirling storm obscuring even the sclera. She shouts her questions over the now-torrential winds, and the answers too come from her own mouth but in a rasping voice.

-What plane or power would be the best for us to contact for getting accurate answers to our questions regarding the Labyrinth of Madness?'
I am.

-Will finding out more more about Dyris and Im-Ravin be helpful in solving the Labyrinth?'
Doubtful

-'Has Sorril been transformed into a serpentine horror?'
No

“If yes, then 'Will we have to get past said serpentine horror to reach the pool?' [Question stricken due to previous answer]

“Will plunging the scepter into the pool restore Sorril to his natural form?'
Probably

-'Is there a sage somewhere on this plane who knows about the Labyrinth, Dyris, and or Im-Ravin?'
Unknown

-If that's a yes, 'Who?'” [Question stricken due to previous answer]

====
There are 2 questions left since 2 were stricken.
if 2 more questions are presented immediately for Allikhain to ask they can possibly be answered but the diety will not be patient for long. 24 hr timer to come up with 2 questions

"Is there a way to detect the sigils required to get to the pool that will release Sorril except dungeon crawling?" Ke'Sha suggests, "And is it possible to bypass the effect of the sigils using planar or dimensional travel?"

Is Miss Allikhaine's psyche going to be damaged by this casting?

I am.
Entirely OOC:
"Wow, a bit full of yourself, are you? "
"Are you just saying that because you don't want to admit there is someone else who knows more about this that you do?"
"Are you now planning to send your agents/followers on the PMP to hunt me down because I've insulted you?"
