Re: OOC Chat
She could at least use it at a moment like this to save Sturm and Laurana from taking more damage, or someone else especially if one of her group has fallen or is paralysed in a puddle of acid!
There's more to me than meets the eye...
Re: OOC Chat
Need to take some time, we will both post later.
Frankly i am finding this game.. Well 'mechanical' not really feeling the characters, when we were hit with the acid i didn't get the feeling of. I dunno, worry i get from Locky.
Remember when Bab nearly died? I was in tears, no such feeling for these, which is sad because i sort of suggested you do this.

Re: OOC Chat
I'm not sure I understand the complaint. If you are literally crying over the death (or near death) of a character, you are likely taking the game way too seriously and should probably take a break. You should not be viewing that as a good thing. I certainly don't want anyone going all Blackleaf on me!
In any case, you seemed super-excited to play Laurana, but now you are saying you are not? So what changed between then and now?
I guess it would help if you told me what it is, exactly, that you want from this game? Otherwise, I'm not really sure what I can do to help, other than offer you a different character to play.

Re: OOC Chat
It is likely a lack of investment on her part due to the heavy usage of the game mechanics. We spend more time posting stats than we do interacting with each other.

Re: OOC Chat
Hmm, I'm not sure.
It's certainly true that the modules are set up at a fairly quick pace, keeping the party moving almost constantly with a deadline. When the fate of the world hangs in the balance, there's not really a lot of time to stop and chat and have some tea. (Although we did spend like 15 pages or so just sitting and talking in the very first chapter.)
On the other hand, however, there have been some small periods of downtime (usually when the party is camping at night) where they can interact, but rarely does anyone take advantage of it. I've often asked, "Is there anything anyone wants to do before moving on?" and almost nobody ever speaks up.
If people want more time to interact, though, I can try and provide. Not here in Pax Tharkas, probably. It is an enemy stronghold, after all. But once we finish, there is some time between this and the next dungeon that can be utilized for that.

Re: OOC Chat
Please let me know if Sturm can do this? Laurana is light, and with Sturms Strength I dont see why not.Jerrard wrote:Switching Brightblade to his off hand, Sturm grabs Laurana by the waist and pulls he away from the Acid.
"My Lady." He pants, lowering her onto 'dry' Land.
(assuming I can do that?)
Re: OOC Chat
You're suggesting he physically pick her up and carry her over the acid? Then, yes, he could do that. It'll put him into severe encumbrance, so he can only move 10 feet, but that should be just enough to carry her out of the acid entirely.
Re: OOC Chat
I am sure, Jaded. It is easy to spot for a long term forum GM.

Re: OOC Chat
Yep, thats what he was trying to do.
Thanks.
She would loose her attack that round tho, I assume.

Re: OOC Chat
Yes, I'm afraid she would. But on the bright side, she'd take no further damage from the acid. (Sturm would, however.)
Re: OOC Chat
Okay, Breila, I did some research.
Overall, I don't believe Destroy Water would be useful against acid.
If you interpret the spell literally, and that means 'water' means specifically H2O, then it would have no effect at all. Although liquid in form, acid doesn't have H2O in it.
However, with a more liberal interpretation of 'water' meaning 'any liquid,' I still am not sure it would help. The acid would simply change from a liquid to a solid, and still be very dangerous.
It was a good idea, though.

Re: OOC Chat
You are ruling that using destroy water on an acid would leave a precipitate as a general mechanic? Assuming that to be the case, the solid would not be dangerous unless there was an aqueous solution present to cause either the formation of gas or the restoration of the precipitate to an acidic solution.

Re: OOC Chat
Actually, I'm ruling it wouldn't have any effect at all, since acid doesn't have H2O in it.
Re: OOC Chat
You realize that acids are defined by the ability to give off H+ in water, yes?
The only acidic reaction you are dealing with that does not involve water deals with certain bases...which produce salts. That is by the B-L and A standards... Once you use the word acid, you automatically associate them with water in modern chemistry.

Re: OOC Chat
Well, Jaded, with my Master's degree in chemistry, I must affirm that nearly all commercially available acids are aqueous solutions and consist mainly of H2O... only two exceptions come to mind, where the chemistry allows the transfer of H+ to other constituent molecules, those are water-free acetic acid (an organic acid) and oversaturated sulfuric acid, but they are both nearly solid.
However, I accept the ruling that Destroy Water does not destroy the acid or renders it harmless. This is a magic world after all. Real world acid won't evaporate either, and real world beings can't dissolve into acid... so it's OK that destroy water does not affect the watery part of that magic acid.
