The Brink [of Madness] Act 1, Scene 1

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

"I'll leave it to you two to decide whether to knock or dispel it." Ke'Sha says and steps back from the door.

The Knock will work fine if it is merely wizard locked. She agrees

"Let's give it a try, save the dispel as it has more use."

Jag will cast Knock on the door.

Jag climbs back up to where he can see the door and casts his spell. The sound of knocking can be heard on the door as the spell takes effect, then the click of a lock opening. Tap, tap-tap tap tap, ca-click! (spell flavor)

The door remains closed but is now unlocked.

If no one else does, then Ke'Sha opens the door. 'I got used too much to Rattle doing the openings... Let him be remembered and reanimated...' he thinks to himself.

Ke'Sha opens the door to find a 20 ft long hallway stretching East, and apparent dead end.

"Hey! Come quickly I found Sorril!" Ke'Sha exclaims. "Oh wait... there is nothing here. I must have been day dreaming. It looks like dead end, but let's search for hidden doors and traps." Ke'Sha uses Gur's vision to look at the walls around but waits for Jack to clear the entrance and floor before stepping in to the hallway.

"Once I am done down here I will come check that." Jack is still hoping to find a way to get the statue to move like they suspect.

Axid still being below attempts to search for hidden or concealed doors starting at the head of the statue once more. He seems to be certain that he is missing something crucial in regards to operating the hands.

"I'll join the search on the statue and then we can check again here."
Ke'Sha uses what current rope is secured up to get to the statue level. Then he uses his own rope, calling Axid, "Could you.. please.. tie the rope around the statue head. I'll start from the legs and climb up while you can go from top to bottom."
Once the rope is secured he started searching the statue surface both smooth areas but also trying to press it's toes, lift it finger nails or anything that might have some significance. "Maybe it's in the statue eyes, or eye leads that might signify that we can't see something. Or maybe it is something that bothers you 'in the back of your mind'... or 'something it must have ate...'" Ke'Sha keeps murmuring sentences that are related to body parts that might have dual meaning and refer to areas on the statue to search.

Jag and Jack finish searching the walls in the lower area, finding nothing of note.

Axid focuses on the head of the statue as Ke'Sha slides doen the rope and begins examining the statue from the ground up. As they are searching, Axid notices something odd on the back of the statue's head. It seems to be a circular outline of a hairline crack so cleverly worked into the design that it was impossible to notice until it yielded under his finger as he checked the area... some kind of button or plug?!

Axid, ever the inquisitive locksmith, noticing the depression made by the pressing, pulls out a torch and uses it to depress the button further turning his face away from the area and holding his breath as he forces the button with the blunt end of the torch.

"Do you want me to.... nevermind..."
With a shrug.

"Gonna watch what is going on down here first, then I will be up to help clear that hallway."

The Dwarven Psionicist postions himself away from the plug and presses with the end of a torch. A low grinding vibrates through the statue and the Right arm shifts to one side revealing a hidden alcove in the wall! The newly revealed space is 20 feet above the ground level of the room, though it could be reached by carefully traversing the arm itself. On the back wall of this alcove is a lever in the down position.

The plug itself is offset slightly to the right side of the head, and Axid can now see that a symetrical second version of the button exists on the left side of the head.
