WotL OOC Thread II

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Yes.
Chris1234 wrote:How many days of staying at the expensive place would he get for 5 steel?
Let's see...5 steel is 50 silver, so 10 days.

Robbing sods. OK, will retrospectively have paid for tonight at the posh place, if that's ok.
Does that include food?

(Now you mention it, I recall steel replace gold coins in DL - I'd forgotten that)

Heh, yeah. Well, they also arrest people for no reason and have them enslaved or killed in the middle of the night. They don't need a warrant or justified cause, they suffer no repercussions and can do whatever they want. But yeah, they charge you to transport weapons. Priorities, people! :P

Anyway, the 5 silver a night includes one meal (dinner) but that's it.

Also, prices everywhere for everything are up because of the prefect's new tax. The Tankard used to only cost 1 silver a night, for instance. Now it costs as much as the High Hand, and they'll probably be raising their prices pretty soon as a result, too.

Bum.
Shima needs a job. An adventuring job that is!
I wonder if anyone might need a willing pair of hands.
Happy to help with juggling!
Anything to get out of this bloody awful city and go and try to kick some butt. And get some booty.

Hmmm maybe that means something else in USA?
I meant like loot, treasure. (It sounds wrong, somehow, to say "I want a chest of steel coins".)

Good old Captain Jack Sparrow, huh?

I wasn't sure if you folks might think a loot was a stringed musical instrument..

Nope, 'loot' is commonly used here in the states, too. Especially in the gaming community.

I think there are enough Ren-fairs and medieval/Renaissance tv shows around the US that most of us wouldn't misspell the instrument so egregiously...

Then again, I could be hopelessly optimistic about the average American spelling ability...

I think most of us know the difference between lute and loot. Much like Tristen, that might be positive thinking on my part though. When I'm not at work, I have some faith that not all Americans are stupid. I'm less confident with booty though. Despite the pirate movies, most Americans are going to assume you are talking about someone's butt.

I don't actually know many americans, face to face.
I did meet one New Yorker, ran an engine test house on the edge of the swamps (if that's what they're called) in Florida.
He was hard as nails. Nil SOH.
Felt like he expected $20 just for you to shake his hand. Saying "hello, how are you" cost more..

In Florida, I think the swamps are called The Everglades. I've only been to Florida twice, and both times were trips to Disney World.

To be fair, I know not all Americans are stupid. It is just I work customer service in a casino, at night, so I'm bombarded with stupid people on an everyday basis.
