WotL OOC Thread

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

I went back and forth on this quite a bit, but ultimately my reasoning was that Tulbas was so certain that the mageware shop was more secure and defensible than Kynaston's house. And as Marvin's home is even less secure and defensible, I reasoned he would feel safer back at the mageware shop in this instance, too.

In any case, and I direct this question to all of you, what next? Should I elapse time further? How far? What are your current plans?

Tulbas will stay as much as possible near his uncle. Though it is possible to go on a small tour if it can prove helpful to his uncle and obviously conduct discussions in the shop with the others.

Gregeddin is happy just exploring, chilling out, being what I conceive a bard would do. He wants to go explore some business with the cult but is too afraid to go skulking around the harbour while the heat is on, and has no leads on the bandaged monks. He'll want to see Raetmal when he returns, he still has magic to pursue, but that could be a little difficult now...

Although Darga would like to lay low, he probably wants to find Gregeddin and Kendra to warn them about keeping their heads down for a while. If he finds a good reason to (one important enough to pull Tulbas away from Raetmal), he'll suggest leaving town for a while.

Haahqae agreed to help this guy with his big problem, and will try to recruit people to do so. He'd also like to take Tulbas's book as reading material along the way.

Okay. I'll have Gregeddin return to the mageware shop, so that Darga can warn him and he can learn about Raetmal. Then everyone will be back together, except Kendra, who is spending the day resting to get extra HP back.

I'm not clear what we're waiting on here at this point. Should I elapse time again?

Sure, that sounds good. Darga's not looking for any trouble... Perhaps an elapse until Kendra's had her day of bed rest?

Tulbas waits to see what will happen with Raetmal. It is possible to start planning assault on the giant until something changes in Raetmal's condition.

It appears that we need to plan a giant killing, figure out what to do with Raetmal and wait for Kendra today. This may involve a trip or 2 back to the tankard for Haahqae to inform his informant about the progress on gathering a group.

So... In terms of planning to kill the giant, we should probably wait a day for wounds to heal and perhaps enlist some extra help.

Okay, between resting up and laying low from the authorities, we can skip forward a bit. Question is, how long? The rest of today? Tomorrow, as well? Everyone let me know how far you want to skip ahead.

Also let me know if there's anything you want your character to take care of during that downtime.

Well when we skip ahead (for 1 day), here's a list of stuff Haahqae would like to get done today:

Read Tulbas's Book
Update the hunter on the goings on about forming a party for giant hunting
Practice joggling routines for the next couple days.
Ask Tulbas if he has any books on learning the ancient languages.
Perform a joggling routine at the Steel Tankard

Tulbas is pretty much anchored to his uncle bed. He would like to get information from Haaque regarding the giant and besides if Haaque is wondering around he would like him to discretely (as much as the Gnome is capable of) ask about the black robed mage. Suspecting this is the same mage he saw in the store he gives the rest his own description (which is more detailed than Darga's).
Regarding laying low, he will question Darga about the descriptions the Holy Guard have and then prioritize the risk of the people in the group to match to the description. That's for the case they would need to send someone for errands.

Tulbas will also try to actively attend to Raetmal's condition if there anything he can do to help him heal. He will try to look for books in that subject. He might ask Gregeddin (assuming he is at lower risk to match to the description the Holy Guard has) to go to Mad Marvin and ask if there is something more to do.

Is there any High Mages that both Raetmal and Tulbas knew or someone in the Tower that he can reach to and ask about what happened and what Raetmal meant by "They are coming?" Or to warn them? If so, he would try to do that too.

Hey everyone, sorry for the late reply. Getting smashed with 2 jobs at the moment :S

Gregeddin. Is generally happy wandering and chilling out in the north, would like to find someone to tutor him in the arcane arts now that Raetmal is not so well, so he is keen to see him recover quickly, additionally assisting Tulbas in watching him could earn him a more solid route into being tutored. He would also like to speak with Tulbas and Haahqae about their experience in the cult. In the coming days, once the heat has died off, he intends to go down there seeing if he can pitch a contract to supply that elixir to the cult and net himself some coin. No leads on the crystal staff or green gemstone man yet so is just keeping a look out for any clues. Giant sounds cool, tell Haahqae he knows of two others that he can persuade to help, they're good with swords, since Trench is gone.

Also, how many days until all the questions are answered?

Haahque wrote:Read Tulbas's Book
Here is the information from the book about wizards:

There are entries on the current three leaders of the High Orders of Sorcery--Par-Salian of the White, Ladonna of the Black, and Justarius of the Red.

Other entries included Asanta of the White (who built the Tower of Istar), Salius Ruven of the Black (who once led an army of undead on Istar), Vincil da Jevra of the Red (an Ergothian who served as Highmage in Daltigoth and was said to have created over two hundred spells) and the famous Magius who wore all three colors at one time or another (noted for aiding Huma Dragonbane in the Third Dragon War).

Finally, he finds the entry on Fistandantilus of the Black, the Dark One. It was said he was a tall, slender man with a long, iron-grey pointed beard, thin bony hands, broad shoulders, and well-built body. He always wore his plain, midnight black robes in plain sight, and was the most powerful Black Robe of his time. He always radiated cold, and when he would stand in one place for too long would actually kill the grass and other plants in the immediate area.

At the height of his power in Istar, he knew every language, custom, and lore of all known races on Krynn. He thought it beneath him to own a staff or even to have a familiar. The archmage was able to travel anywhere on Krynn in the blink of an eye, and was used as a bogeyman by parents to scare their children. However unlike most bogeyman tales, his powers were all very much real.

Almost nothing is known of his birth, including where and when. When he was young, he discovered he had a talent for magic. He took his Test and joined the Order of the Red. However, as his ambitions grew (as well as an obsession with never dying), he later turned to the Order of the Black. He must have succeeded, because he is said to have lived for centuries after the fact. Eventually he became Master of the Palanthas Tower.

Surprisingly, he became a close adviser to the last Kingpriest, Beldinas Pilofiro. He used his powers to help the Kingpriest fight heretics and read the minds of his subjects. Shortly before the Cataclysm, he disappeared and was not seen again for another 40 years.

In the year 39 AC, he resurfaced and led an army of hill dwarves and plainsmen against Thorbardin, the kingdom of the dwarves. In a huge battle at Zhaman, there was a massive explosion that turned the keep into what is now called Skullcap. Fistandantilus has not been seen since then, and it is believed he was killed in the explosion.

Okay, if there are any questions Haahqae would ask him about the giant so he can relay that information to the others, let me know.

Tulbas has never been to the tower (on account of being an apprentice, he wouldn't be allowed) and so it's very unlikely he'd know anyone there, much less a Highmage. I can't think of any way he'd have of contacting the tower without the use of high level magic.

Tulbas could tutor him, and Raetmal left a blank spellbook behind the counter for Gregeddin earlier, for free. So he could easily be taught some simple first level spells that way.

If you are referring to the old man's prophecy, four days. Well, if we skip a day forward, I suppose it would now be three.
