CH. 13: Resident Evil

"I'm going to go get the other two since the door is unlocked," Jocelyn says. She walks away from the group, and heads in the direction that Baeros and Gallath took.

"Information is important" Ouragana says, looking at Dahn. "But since this could very well be plain writing from a culture foreign to us, I agree that you might waste the spell using it here. We should simply go in very cautiously, I guess. There is more to this place than the ancient texts say, obviously."
She stands back a little and declares:
"If anything is lurking behind that door, I'm ready to block it off with a sticky web."

(OOC: Do the doors open to the inside or to the outside?)

"Gallath, do you have anything to break the boards with? If not, maybe we should take Brock's axe to break in." Baeros says.

The doors appear to open by being pulled, toward the outside.

Jocelyn circles around the mansion alone. She finds Baeros and Gallath standing behind the mansion, looking up at one of the boarded up windows.

"You two," Jocelyn says as she approaches Baeros and Gallath. "We have the front door unlocked, so let's go."

"Alright Jocylyn, we're coming" Gallath says.

Ouragana waits for the group to reasseble. "So who opens the door?" she asks.

"Jocelyn!" Baeros says frustrated. "I'm here to keep you safe! I told you all going through the main door is more dangerous. Why did you just open it up? All those hell hounds could be waiting behind that door and attack you." But since the door is already unlock Baeros joins the others near the front door.
Standing there with the other Baeros considers the situation and then tries to communicate with Hopper as best as he can. "Hopper! Come here boy! C__a__n______y__u__o________a__p__p__e__a__r______b__e__h__i__n__d______t__h__e______d__o__o__r______a__n__d______t__h__e__n______ b__a__c__k______h__e__r__e?" He asks slowly hoping for a clue the dog understood any of his attention.

Jocelyn, Gallath and Baeros return to the front entrance where the others wait.

Hopper looks up at Baeros and tilts his head. He then opens his mouth to let out his tongue and pants happily a moment. He then scratches at his ear, stands up and barks once. Then he vanishes into thin air.

Several moments pass, and he does not reappear.

"And yet you two haven't found a way in yet," Jocelyn points out. "So don't yell at me because there isn't an easy way to break all of those boards on the windows," she adds with a slight huff. She wasn't the one that picked the lock! They didn't have all day to figure out a safer way into the mansion either. "My suggestion would be to just peek inside and get a quick idea of what we might be dealing with in there.

Dahn shakes his head impatiantly. "If we're gonna spend so much time trying to get past the front door, what are we gonna do when we're inside?" He says as he opens the door himself.

"I'm not yelling." Baeros grunts. "Let me step inside first." Baeros steps forward, readies his weapon and opens the doors, his first concern is to find Hopper.

Granite, having had enough of this talking, moves toward the doors to pull them open. But Baeros steps up and beats him to the punch. He places his hands on the handles and pulls back. The doors swing open suddenly, almost too easily, and there's an audible 'click' sound heard.

Before anyone can react, there's a large explosion. The ground shakes at the blast as fire surrounds the party. A sudden and very localized gust of wind knocks Ouragana to the ground just before the blast, so she isn't burned quite as badly as the others. Brock manages to get his shield up in time to stop some of the flame. But everyone else is caught completely off guard. When the smoke clears and the ringing in their ears stop, everyone has been burned to some degree. Val and Thaddeus lie on the ground, unmoving.

The inside of the mansion is pitch black with darkness. But glowing red eyes can be seen deep within, and the growling of angry dogs can be heard, as well.

Jocelyn saves vs BW while wearing a ring of protection (+1) [15] (1d20+1): 3+1 = 4, fail. She takes 10 damage. She is now seriously wounded (50% HP).
Brock saves vs BW [16] (1d20): 17, pass. He takes 5 damage. He is now lightly wounded (90% HP).
Ouragana saves vs BW [15] (1d20): 20, pass. She takes 5 damage. She is now seriously wounded (50% HP).
Val saves vs BW [13] (1d20): 7, fail. She takes 10 damage. She drops unconscious at -2 HP.
Baeros saves vs BW [13] (1d20): 9, fail. He takes 10 damage. He is now moderately wounded (75% HP).
Takit saves vs BW [15] (1d20): 3, fail. He takes 10 damage. He is now critically wounded (25% HP).
Gallath saves vs BW [15] (1d20): 4, fail. He takes 10 damage. He is now critically wounded (25% HP).
Granite saves vs BW with great reflexes (+1) [15] (1d20+1): 8+1 = 9, fail. He takes 10 damage. He is now critically wounded (25% HP).
Thaddeus saves vs BW [15] (1d20): 12, fail. He takes 10 damage. He drops unconscious to 0 HP.
Drav saves vs BW with amazing reflexes (+2) [16] (1d20+2): 4+2 = 6, fail. He takes 10 damage. He is now seriously wounded (50% HP).

(OOC: Well, I tanked most of those saves. But I rolled really low on the trap's damage, so that was lucky. If I had rolled maximum damage, some of you would be rolling up new characters now. And Hopper only has 3 HP, so if he had been here...)

Jocelyn lets out a groan from where she landed on the ground from the blast. At least she was still alive, but she knew she wasn't doing good. She looks around as the dust clears, and notices that almost everyone is hurt. She curses under her breath and crawls over to Val. She prays over the woman, using one of her cure light wounds to bring her to consciousness. She doesn't spent much time on her though, as she quickly moves on to Thaddeus in which she spends another cure prayer upon him (cure light wounds). "Oura, stay by Thaddeus," she says as she moves on to the more seriously wounded (Gallath, Grey, Takit) in which she uses prayers on each of them. Finally, she uses her lay on hands ability on Drav. "Baeros, Brock, cover the front. Those dogs don't sound happy."

OOC: Okay, so Val and Thaddeus both get cure light wounds.
Gallath, and Grey get cure mod wounds. Takit gets a cure light wounds.
Finally, lay on hands goes to Drav.

Gallath realizes his is badly hurt, but his pain seems to vanish as he sees his friend dying. He crawls over to stabilize Thaddeus.
