Out of Character discussion

The 2E AD&D Homebrew Sandbox world of Genwald is large, ancient, and magical. There are many undiscovered/untamed places. The Sun Kingdom (European style, Late Medieval Human NG Monarchy) is the basic Campaign area, but PCs can end up anywhere.

The scars of ancient battles of titanic proportions mark the land. Wild magic zones, fantastical terrain, grand adventure, political strife, and even artifacts of wonder await. Choose your part and come make your mark on the world. A wide array of unconventional races and classes are available.

@Ausie - Linar gets one 1st level spell per day (no Wis bonus) so he's doing all he can.

@Tristan - Movement should be back to 12/12 ?

Chris: yep, 12/12. I'm not going to make a formal edit to two sheets since it's just a temporary thing. I'll remember the group's movememt is 12.

Just a heads-up: I'll likely be a bit scarce around here for a while.
Without going into great detail, I've got a family member in the hospital and have been spending three to four hours a day there.

Sorry for the delays. Holiday weekend in the states and spent a lot of time with family. Also, there were some surprises; like my wife's car blowing the engine while she was 500 miles from home and trying to get it paid off, sold and picked up from far away, rental cars, etc. But at least she was safe and made it to see her family.

Things should (hopefully) be back to normal now.

I'd like Van to respond to Eariel... Would he know Boardertown or have visited it? What would he know of the place?

It's certainly possible. The only real reason to visit would be if he had some connection or reason to work with the Crown (House Ulfbert) Lesoger doesn't have a lot of dealings with them, but you could always chalk a visit up to curiosity. Keep in mind Van's age and that the trip there is often dangerous. You can use your own judgement to say if he had wanted to visit or not.

Bordertown marks the southernmost settlememt of the Sun Kingdom. It is a fortified city buikt across the main road initially to prevent incursion from the human kingdom far to the south. (The denizens of the forest inherently prevent incursion through the thick woodlands). Bordertown exists mainly as a military outpost where shops and trades grew up within to support the military presence.

Pooulation 7,000+
80% human, some High elves and Half-elves. Other types are rare.\
Most who live here are soldiers, support staff, tradesmen, farmers and their families. Thereis a mage shop, but it's nothing special.
Houses Ulfbert and Amwick have presence here as well.

It is very unlikely Linar or Garroth have ever been. It's possible Boyd has (for trade, but Thel Jeers is a closer easier place for him to trade, or one of the small communities near his home would be much simpler)

Linar would not have been there and is rather apprehensive.

Too pedestrian for Van's tastes. He's never been. He'll be scoping the place out for his academy friends- to let them.know if it is worth the trip or mot.

Okay, I am back.
I had a family member pass away after three weeks in the hospital, which kept me away from here for a while.

Close-quarter Fighting Proficiency - humanoids book P 93.

Humanoids with this proficiency have learned to fight in the cramped confines of dungeons and underground lairs. In such loca- tions, or in other extremely close fighting con- ditions, characters armed with bludgeoning or piercing weapons (or their own natural weapons) receive a +2 bonus to attack rolls. Slashing weapons cannot be used in close- quarter fighting. This bonus is not cumulative with wild-fighting.
A successful proficiency check at the start of combat yields this bonus. Failure means the humanoid fights normally.

(M sized is not relative - where did you get that from? Only that the fighting is at extreme close quarters. Punching and Daggers is pretty close quarters? If you rule that he can't have the proficieny for notmalnuse at "close quarters". (I.e. Close up) re, I'll have to choose a different one. He is not taking any of the specialised Close quarter weapons from page 111, as he is not subterranean dwelling creature, so can't start with them, but there is no restriction on him taking the profiency and he can use any bludgeoning (knuckleduster) or piercing (dagger) weapon with the proficiency. In amongst trees in the Forrest is close quarters..

As for where I got +8 from.. +3 for Str, +2 for close quarters proficiency check, +4 for ranger species enemy (Orcs). Should have been +9.. level one ranger has unadjusted THAC0 of 20.

Rangers don't get an offhand penalty if the offhand weapon is smaller than the primary or if both weapons are Size S (knuckle duster and dagger.). They can attack with two weapons without an offhand penalty.. just because he didn't need to attack with the dagger, doesn't mean he incurs a penalty for the other hand... he still had the dagger in his right hand and was ready to use it if the punch missed or wasn't enough to do the job.
