Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
Ishan fumbles with his gear for a bit before heading for thearty he hopes the group can resolve the situation peacefully he really didn't want to fight these orcs it was pretty far from what he wanted, but some things just can't be helped. Though he did wish Zurgo took more to his orcish half, what kind of orc drinks imperial red after all.
Deciding he didn't want to give Dubok a chance to take Zurgo's head off but not quite ready to say his piece yet Ishan lounges within striking distance but relaxes on his spear in a stance that was as far from combat ready as can be.
(Knowledge - province on these orcs)

Hihim rests a hand on his axe handle, ready to set to it if the rear contingent of orcs start anything.
Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
Parley Party
Dubok takes an angry step towards Zurgo, adopting a combative stance, then hesitates and responds to Zurgo's last comment. Perhaps he's planning something deviously cunning very quickly, or maybe he's not quite as bright as he seems to like to make himself out to be. "And how would you know he's not in the empire anymore? Rognic is easily smart enough to fool a fool like you. Now are you done wasting my time half-breed, or would you like me to teach you a true orc's strength as a free lesson before you try going back into our territory. You might have been frolicking in human territory for so long you've forgotten how weak you are."
Dubok adopts the Tiger Style stance.
Rest of the party
The party stops closing in on the orcs, and with a signal from the large orc beside Dubok, the orc group also stops closing in. The groups might be a fair bit closer then they should be during negotiations, but this way they're both within striking distance, and it appears that the half-orc isn't getting along all that well with the unarmed orc.
Benji sizes up the situation: Zurgo and Gaheris are 15 feet away from Dubok (unarmed, no armour, a few pouches on his belt) and a large orc in scailmail, wielding a longsword and a large shield. 70 ft on either side of this party are his own group and the other group of orcs, which consists of 2 orcs wielding small shields and battle axes, and one orc in leather armour with a longbow.
Ishan uses knowledge (local) to try and determine where these orcs come from: 21, he's too far from the back 3 orcs to figure out where they come from. The unarmed orc probably comes from south of the mountains, while the large, silent, armoured orc probably comes from north of the mountains.

Gaheris doesn't understand what Dubok and Zurgo are saying, but the former's intent is clear when he enters a fighting stance. "What are you doing? Are you provoking him?" he asks Zurgo. "We're supposed to be avoiding a fight."

Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
"search for Rognic here all you want here, i don't mind," Zurgo took a single decisive step forward, and let his hands drop to his sides, palms open, in a traditional non-aggressive pose.
"that is if you trust in your ability to find him, i wonder if it equals your trust in your fists?" his chest flared up, almost taunting Dubok.
in his final moment, he whispered to Gaheris "our war orc's name is Rognic, just in case i don't live though this," he flashed him his tusk-y grin.
"take your shot Dubok, you will only get one," he replied back to his nemesis.

Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
"What exactly is going on here?" Jasmine asks. "I thought the point of approaching them was to keep things peaceful, but it doesn't seem to be going that way."
Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
Zurgo
"My best shot?" Dubok repeats, walking forward towards Zurgo, "You're dumber then I thought!" It appears to take a few seconds of preparation for the attack, but when he's finally ready for it, the blow comes like lightning. The attack is a simple lunge forward, punch with both hands simultaneously with a massive amount of strength behind it. Zurgo has no time to dodge it and his chain shirt does nothing to cushion the blow. Indeed the pure force behind the blow sends him reeling backwards and struggling to stay balanced. "Now lets see your best shot idiot."
Before battle: Dubok walks up to Zurgo, Dubok fuses styles, adding Snake Style stance.
Dubok's best shot: Dubok attacks Zurgo with Tiger Claws: 21 vs AC, hit, activates (full) Orc Ferocity to increase damage: 11 slashing damage (pvp reduction!) and secondary attack (bull rush): 15 vs CMD, success, Zurgo is pushed back 5 ft (Dubok cannot advance).
Rest of the party
Weather or not you can understand the words, it's pretty clear from Zurgo's body language that he's taunting the unarmed orc. It doesn't take very much taunting for him to step forward, and line up a blow that nearly takes Zurgo off his feet. This orc is definitely NOT a civilian. While the unarmed orc looks ready to strike back at anyone advancing on him, the other orcs are still hanging back, hands on their weapons sizing you up, but not advancing.
One name hangs in the air, something Zurgo mentioned before taunting the unarmed orc... Rognic. Somehow it seems that that name is pretty important.

Gaheris takes a few, slow steps back to avoid getting caught up in the melee. He also gestures to the other party members to hold their ground. He wasn't sure what Zurgo was trying to prove here, but he figured it was some orc thing he just didn't understand.

Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
"finally..." Zurgo gurgled. blood was spewing from his mouth. it vibrated as the words that followed shaped the very air they flew in, condensing, rippling. Finally the air ignited, and Zurgo was in front of Dubok.
Dubok's blow may have struck like lightning, but Zurgos came accompanied by actual lightning, and backed by rage, laced with magical vengeance.
(cast shocking grasp, shift 5ft, rage +STR, arcane strike as swift, deliver a lightning punch to Dubok on touch AC, pray my rage beats his wisdom AC)

Zurgo
Zurgo's attack also comes quickly, perhaps not as fast as Dubok's, but with Zurgo's magic he should be able to deliver a blow just as hard as the monk. If it had hit. Given how long it takes Zurgo to prepare his perfet best shot in reply, Dubok sees the attack coming from miles away and easily sidesteps it, lashing out on his own. However he's not expecting Zurgo to be quite so composed while raging and his own attack is off mark this time.
"Still up to your old ticks Zurgo? Really, I thought you would have been smarter then that by now. Foolish of me, I know. Let me guess, you're going to try and piece together your dignity by trying to punch me again? Perhaps with your axe? Too bad you never had dignity in the first place, you can't piece it back together half-breed."
Zurgo casts shocking grasp, shifts towards Dubok, enters a controlled rage for +4 Str and activates arcane strike.
Dubok uses an immediate action to make a sense motive check on Zurgo: 21, he decides to substitute this for his touch AC.
Zurgo delivers the shocking grasp as a touch attack (+5 vs Touch AC): 18 vs Touch AC (21), miss.
Dubok shifts 5 feet(to the side) and uses a full round action to use Tiger Claws on Zurgo: 11 vs AC, miss.

Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
Sure for now that Zurgo isn't going to die Ishan slowly reaches into his jacket and drops a potion near Gaheris's feet before heading off to the left no reason to stick around anyways these orcs parlays always end the same and he might as well get something done.
He plans to get out of range of the orcs and then continue on his way and meet up with the party later, maybe even get to the village before them but most likely just scout.

Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
Hihim asks, "Gaheris, are we going to help?"
Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
Gaheris, again, gestures for the others to stand down. "This is something Zurgo needs to do for himself," he reasons, figuring it to be some matter of orcish honor. Or stupidity. Either way, it was best to not get involved.

Jasmine runs her hand through her hair, and yawns. "Gaheris, doesn't this seem kind of pointless. We don't even know what is going on."

Re: The Quest of the Missing Quill
"still not enough..." Zurgo spoke this in common, signalling the end of his rage, and his duel with Dubok.
"Siesind-der Vorgesetzte ein... denn jetzt..." he directed at his rival, "you came in peace, you may leave in peace, besides, you cant kill me now Dubok," he turned his back, to drive the point home. "how else are you going to find Rognic? Danke for that, by the way..."
He addressed Gaheris when they moved out of ear shot. "we're gonna need to double back around them, sorry about the trouble, and only a name to show for it,"
