WotL OOC Thread II

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

You know, I should really read the Death Gate cycle sometime. I feel kind of guilty that I never got around to doing so.

It was a very good series.

Have any of you read the "Malazan book of the fallen"? I also recommend it. Although I stopped reading it after the 7th novel since I lost my free time slot due to change in transportation to my workplace. :(
It is so sad to work...

I've read the first five books of the Malazan series. It's got some interesting stuff in it, but it's not my cup of tea. The good ideas are really good, and I want to like the series, but there's so much not-so-good stuff to sift through to find the good stuff. I'll probably read up to book seven, since I have them (I bought them all at once remember the Science Fiction Book Club?), but I probably won't go past them.

Hmm... yeah, I think I know what you mean. There are some tiresome descriptions. Very complex politics. Huge settings of the worlds! But in recent years I've grown to like stories that delve into all these details. It intrigues and stretches the brain neurons. :)

It's not that I dislike politics or the huge setting; I find some of it tiresome (yes, the Letheri obsession with capitalism is bad--I agree, but I don't need to be beaten over the head with it again and again) or unnecessary (yet another elder race?), but its mostly good. I guess my problem with it is that the world seems to be vastly wide but pretty shallow. For all of the hundred-thousand year histories, I don't feel like they're used for much more than window dressing.

Less important than the feeling of shallowness, but still something that bothers me is the names. I really don't like the names. I'm irritated by the profusion of badass characters with edgy names (Cutter, Nightwail, etc.), marines with stupid names (Bottle, Strings, etc.), and locations with ridiculous names (Cat, One-Eyed Cat, Apple).

Couldn't figure out how to shrink them, but ehh.

And that is how yo-

"Hi Enemies"

"Shut up Caboose."

That is how you lighten the mood.

Guess what? War of the Lance has now become the game with the 2nd largest number of posts in Planet (the first being Lost Souls). To celebrate this, I updated the forum's description, which I feel better reflects the game's status.

Hello again everyone.
I'm beginning to read up on the previous chapters to find out what has been going on and would like to return to the fray if at all possible.
All the best, Gregeddin

I hope I didn't mess up your character too much in your absence.

I'm sure you took a more sensible path that I would have found. I can only wonder what I'm going to read with Haahqae making lots of decisions :D

Hey, I'm a great guy. I make all of the good decisions and all the bad ones are other people's fault.
