Saren adjusts his glasses again. "That is, of course, your prerogative." He stands up. "But that being the case, it makes me question why you came to me in the first place. You say you are worried you are failing Octhanus because you cannot show compassion to people you don't like. Then you admit you have no intention of changing, so it doesn't matter at all." He stands up and walks to the door of his cabin, then turns toward her. "If there's nothing else..."

Val Urgan (Seleya, middle of upper deck)
Elisa chuckles. "I guess the deck could use a swabbing. You wanna volunteer to do that?" she asks.

Jocelyn stands up and heads for the door. "Okay, what if I give it a try?" she asks. "And I still dislike her?" She was going to put herself through some torture here, and she was all ready leaning towards the fact that she wouldn't like her even after trying to get to know her.

"Sometimes no matter how hard you try, people won't like you or you won't like them," Saren says. "But it's often necessary to work with such people anyway. Octhanus is always testing us, so try and view it like that--a test, a challenge of compassion and tolerance."

"Sure, I can do that." Val says 'Where's the bucket?"

Jocelyn nods in understanding. "All right. Thanks," she says as she steps out onto the deck, figuring that Saren had stuff he had to do.

Elisa nods to a crewman who brings a mop and bucket of water to Val. Jocelyn returns to the upper deck in time to witness this. She also spots Baeros fishing over the ship's aft section.

Val starts on the foredeck, working aft. She makes sure to use her arms to get some exercise.

Jocelyn walks past Val, glancing at her for a moment, and joins Baeros. "How are you going to catch fish when the ship is moving?"

Baeros wakes up from his day dreaming. "Oh! Hi Jocelyn. You have surprised me." he smiles heartily. "Well, I had cast few nets to the water, and they are spread on the ship wake. The water currents keep it spread, and I secured it to the ship, so fish get caught in the nets and every once in a while I collect them to the buckets here and cast the nets again." He explains excitedly with a lot of hand gestures, which almost makes him to lose balance. "Would you like to try yourself? I can guide you. It is very easy, you will catch it in no time. Got it? Catch it in no time." his smile is smug as he feels he had just had the best double meaning this week.

Jocelyn raises an eyebrow at Baeros before she rolls her eyes and shakes her head. "You need to work on your jokes," she points out. "But, sure, okay, I can try this I guess."

The rest of the day passes uneventfully. Val scrubs the decks clean and Baeros fishes for several hours. He catches around a total of 70 fish, which he generously donates to the crew's food stocks.

The following day is also uneventful. The ship gets a strong wind and makes good progress. Elisa announces they should arrive tomorrow night.

The third day, nothing happens. When night falls, the city of Deimos--the largest on the island of Mond--comes into view. It is burning.
