Err.. semi-long way. The minions are at the beginning of the cave. He goes to fetch them, then return to the group and uses the portal.

The minions are near the bridge, which is like 1/2 mile into the cave. So they are much closer to the dungeon than the surface

How do you pronounce "drow"? My flippant response is always that it rhymes with bow, row, and sow. But more seriously, I have always pronounced it with a hard "oh" sound, so it rhymes with snow.

I have always pronounced the 'Ow' in Drow as the 'How now brown cow' method.

Whether or not that is canon I have not done the research

That is, of course, why I selected those words.

In Baldur's Gate II it rhymes with how, not hoe. But I first came across D3 Vault of the Drow back in the early 80s (my older brother got it - probably because of the strategically-covered naked woman on the back cover), and without further guidance, I mentally rhymed it with snow.

I understand that somewhere in Unearthed Arcana (the 1E version) there's a pronunciation guide for drow, and also in the 1993 Guide to the Realms, and both sources rhyme it with cow.

There's also a guy who plays Warhammer 40k who painted his Dark Eldar (okay, okay, 'Druhkari') in white, silver, and blue, calling them "The Callous Drowboys" as a play on "The Dallas Cowboys" NFL team. More evidence for the 'how' pronunciation.

Tristan, are our PCs experienced enough to recognize the types of undead Ke'Sha is bringing?

The monstrous zombies, wight and spectre surely. The juju-zombies maybe. They're very rare and their special factors arent nearly as obvoius as monstrous zombies "oh, it's a troll that is also a zombie". The others probably understand they are special beyond normal zombies and don't fit most other common undead. I'm sure at least one non-necromantic party member will have run into them at some point.

The Varrangoin are very rare Abyssal creatures that don't have many ways of getting to the prime material. I think unless someone has a specific reason to have encountered them, the chances are low that anyone here has direct experience with one; though maybe they have heard of Varrangoin.

Knowing or guessing it is a demon or evil creature of some power isn't a stretch, but demons enter bargains for all sorts of prizes; not just souls of the innocent. The varrangoin might have accepted any number of promises in exchange for its services (magic items, powerful spells casts, 'favors', servants of it's own, assistance with another task, etc).

I don't know what a varrangoin is, not even if it's a demon, daemon, or devil (although you mentioning the Abyss makes me think 'demon'). Stephen's just going to assume 'demon' as shorthand for fiend.
