Putting the dialog for Artanis here.

Artanis chuckles at Mira's questions and statements, appreciating her concern. "My friend, I was not being suicidal, although it must have seemed like it. The spell slowed me to a snail's pace. To try and retreat would have given me less chance to survive than trying to kill it. So I chose the course of action that gave me the best chance. Your spells were quite useful and helped wound it. And you certainly showed no lack of courage. I respect that and you. Do you have songs that can counter it's songs?"

He pauses as he looks around, then exclaims: "AHA! Lumbering brute! I've got the trail now. Should we gather the others and be off?"

He puts the arrows he found back into the quiver, and then studies the trail and the direction.

[Jenara]

Friend? Mira ponders. "The spells were all I had, the only thing I could do. They worked too quickly for the web I had planned." she shrugs, "I improvised."

"Spells.. Hmmm.. You have to understand that my spells are random, hapzard. The spells I know aren't going to be of much use. BUT there is something my Mentor taught me, I was so caught up in the battle that I forgot. I might have an idea, I'd need to practice but I think if someone protects me I can almost counter the spell." Mira blushes quite deeply her face going almost as red as her hair. "I feel stupid for forgetting."

Elsa fixes the straps to her pack as they step outside. Ready when you are. she grins.

[Jenara]

"You'd tell me if this was a crazy idea right? I mean going off into the wilderness on our own..." Shruging she checks her pack is tight, her swords are ready and starts to walk, pulling her short walking stick from the side of her pack as she does so.

"So.." She speaks after a few minutes of walking in silence. "Don't judge but I found more than the coins.. Our wolf man had two rather lovely looking gemstones in his jacket pocket, I was planning to get them valued and share it with everyone else, its just that.. right now they are portable, I'd like to keep them safe until we need them." She gives the Halfling a long sideways glance and shrugs once more. "That wasnt a bad thing to do was it?"

Wilderness? I thought we were taking the road? She relaxes a little as they head West towards the road. [?] From the edge of the farm they can see down slope a little to the large north/south road, which appears to run in each direction before disappearing in rolling hills. As long as we're on the road, i think we're safe... at least in the middle of the daytime. she laughs.

They walk along a while before Mira brings up the stones. Oh... well... i guess you found them... and there's no use worrying about it until we find out if they're valuable i suppose... she says, dubiously. I mean, you told me about them, right? It's not like you would have done that if you mesnt to keep it all yourself. she says, more convinced. Besides, she laughs, Pyros would probably try to use them for sling stones. she finishes in a peal of giggles.

"Keep them?" Mira responds with a hurt expression, "Thats in all honesty the point, there are times when pretty things are also valuable." Winking she fails to hold her serious expression, her laughter comes soon after. "I heard this story once from Traveller that a Kender put a bottle in her Hoopak Staff, and slung this bottle at someone, only she didnt know it was a magical bottle! When it hit the target two full sized horses shot out and crushed him.. They said it was a giant Mushroom but that seems to strange." She manages to speak through her giggles. "My point is who knows what Pyros has in his pockets.."

Walking side by side they head in the direction of Ontash's house.

Story actually happened with my Kender Cleric in Jaded's first game, she grabbed at the nearest thing she found in her pockets after running out of Sling Stones to fire at a Giant Mushoom man, he got trampled totally.

I wasn't saying i thought you would, just that you telling me proves ypu wouldn't. elsa clarifies, nor wanting to upset the bard. Horses in a bottle!? What?! How do you... she looks bewildered for a moment. If anyone could make something that ridiculous happen, it would be him for certain.

The pair continue walking. It takes about an hour before a creek comes into view, crossing the road. Elsa squints a little as she peers at the small bridge crossing it in the distance. Hey! I think that is it! We're almost there! Maybe another twenty minutes and we'll be at the door. She grins.

"So the story goes, a Mage had converted them to magic and when the seal was broken they appeared. We could have done with something like that now." She makes a little noise with her nose and contiunes speaking. "See thats the thing with Kender stories they get more and more elaborate as the telling goes on, yet there is a grain of truth to all of them. You should ask Pyros about his Uncle Trapspringer, they all have one."

"See, now thats faster, we might actually manage to get back to the House before Nightfall. I was thinking perhaps we should let Ontash take anything he wants from the house, almost... He'll never get his son back, but perhaps it might make his life easier. I've seen desperate people, and I know that a tiny bit of kindness really helps." Walking a little faster she hooks Elsas's arm and walks to the bridge with a purpose.

"Thanks for not letting me do this alone, and for not leaving me with Merrick and Jerry. You know I think Merrick liked me? Its a little awkward seeing him rush off with Jerry like that. Not that I'm bothered but a small house.. the sound travels." Coughing the thought dawned on her that perhaps this might make the Cleric uncomfortable.

"Our Wolf man had a list of names, and you know Airand, the I have to say rather cute Violinist? His names on it.. some were crossed out, I wonder what it means? Did he cross out the names of people he'd made like him.. or...? This place, the dreams, the god damn wolves.. I actually felt something about those Pups, I cared for them because they were young and vunerable, I couldn't see them killed, but.. Forgive me I'm rambling, trying to get all of this straight in my head."

Elsa looks up at the bard, These kender... are there a lot of them? I mean, I would have thought I'd have met one or something if they were everywhere, but the way you talk about them they're not rare or anything at your home...

Hey, I'm always happy to help! she says cheerfully. Oh, you think Merrick... but then Jerry... wait. Do you like him too? I mean, I know you and Yasir were... uh... involved I guess. But Merrick was here before that, right?

Elsa blushes at the 'sound travels' comment. Somebody had to come back, right? So it might as well be us. And you made good sense about someone speaking the language returning. I'm not a big fan of the wolves here, but the little pups... they're just animals, they do what animals do. she shrugs.

Mira and Elsa make the rest of the way to the farm. The slightly longer path along the road seems to have taken about half as long as the trail through the thick forest [about 90 mins instead of 3 hrs]. They approach the house without incident to find Adran and Cal are missing, but the family is still inside. Ontash opens the door as they approach, Did you find them? Where are the others? He asks, a hint of concern in his voice.

The time is about 2:15 pm. Darkness has been falling around 6:30 pm.

[Jenara]

"I.. no I didn't think of him in that way, but he was always happy to see me. Honestly I think I was getting feelings for Yasir beyond that of mere sex. I couldn't imagine actually feeling that way about anyone else." Not blushing she grasps the Halfings hand and heads to the house.

"Hi." Mira steps into the house with a smile. "We tracked him down to a house about half an hour away. A man called Jacques lived there, he was the wolf." She explains calmly. "Do you know of him? He is dead. I saw to his death myself, he won't trouble you again."

The farmer's face darkens. Jackques... Ontash almost growls. Maria and the children look at him in shock. He continues, in Elven. He was always the lazy sort... wanted to cut corners and just ignore his work... He kept to himself mostly, except when he wanted something. Would borrow tools and never returned them, never took proper care of his animals... His hands tighten into fists. He probably wanted our farm... but to kill Joshua over something so... He shakes his head. Thank you. We have no money to offer you for saving my family, but you should be able to keep anything you find in Jackques' house. I don't think he had any family or many friends, so I doubt anyone will come looking for him...

Turning back to Maria, he speaks more gently and in Harmonian. It is over. My heart, the nightmare is over... He kisses her head and hugs her and the children close.

[Jenara]

"Truly. It is our pleasure." Mira grins, nudging Elsa. "I'm glad we could help, yes his house is a sign that he was less than productive. I believe your tools are left in the barn, you have more use them than us. I believe he was a troubled man.. but he is dead now "

"We plan to stay there tonight and move on in the morning. If you wanted some help moving items back please let us know."

Thank you... he says quietly. Anything he has borrowed we've already replaced, so that isn't neccesary. You have done so much for us. Truly, you will never know how much it meams to me that my family can be safe again. Maria breaks away and hugs the bard and cleric, thanking them in Harmonian. Ontash tells he they are planning to stay at Jackques, and she begins bundling up food for the two women to take with them.
