Gallath grins. "Baeros, quit holding back or they'll kill you!" He fires at the cluster of pirates, whichever one is worst injured. Then he fires again if he has time.

(Can't I fire twice per round?)

Ouragana Stormbride (Merchant Ship, Lower deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
The marines seem puzzled by Ouragana's actions, but that doesn't stop them from surrounding, grabbing, and restraining her. They quickly go through her things, confiscating her dagger, her magic dagger, her Greek fire and her spellbook. "A mage?" one muses aloud at the discovery. "Bind her hands and gag her, she might cast a spell."

"No," says the young woman behind the desk. "Bind her, but don't gag her. I have questions," she says.

"My lady, some mages can cast spells even without their hands," warns one marine.

"If she starts to speak in magic, cut her throat," she tells them. One quickly places a blade to her throat as a precaution. Turning her attention to Ouragana, the woman says, "If you wish to keep living, speak. What are you doing here? What do you want?"

Baeros Axewielder (Merchant Ship, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
The two marines continue their desperate assault against the strange landlubber pirate who is trying to reach their captain. The second one manages to get in a good cut, weakening Baeros even further. But he will not be stopped. Using the flat of his blades, he manages to knock out both of them, one after the other.

Now only four marines are left between him and the captain, all standing guard around her. Whoops, make that three. An acidic arrow strikes one in the throat, killing him instantly. The three remaining marines ready their cutlasses for Baeros to approach. The captain herself pulls out a rifle.

===========

Initiative
Baeros (1d10+5): 6+5 = 11
Gallath (1d10+7): 5+7 = 12
Marine 03 (1d10+5): 4+5 = 9
Marine 05 (1d10+5): 1+5 = 6

Round 8!

Marine 05 swings his cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 4-2 = 2, miss.
Marine 03 swings his cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 16-2 = 14, hit for (1d6): 3 damage. Baeros is now critically wounded.
Baeros swings his primary long sword at Marine 03 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 9-2 = 7, hit for (1d8): 4 damage. Marine 03 falls. He then swings his secondary long sword at Marine 05 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 11-2 = 9, hit for (1d8): 2 damage. Marine 05 falls.
Gallath fires an acid (+1 dmg) sheaf arrow from his short bow with elven grace (+1 hit) at Marine 06 who is in leather armor (+1 hit) [TN 10] (1d20+2): 2+2 = 4, miss. Marine 06 dies. Gallath has 7 arrows left.

(OOC: Archers can fire twice per round. I was wondering if/when you would remember that. :)

Actions for Round 9?)

Val and Naras (Unnamed Island/Sardonx 24th, 5:00 PM)
Val stabs the monster again with her magical trident, slaying two more of its heads. The four remaining heads turn their attention solely to the half-orc, viewing her now as the biggest threat.

With the pressure off, Naras focuses a spell of healing on herself. But her hands are shaking from the blood loss and it isn't as effective as she had hoped.

The monster's four heads all bite at Val, drawing considerable blood. Soon the half-orc is practically on her last leg herself. She thrusts a second time, killing two more heads. But the beast is still alive, and with two heads left.

It seems that in all likelihood, this battle will be over soon. But who the victor will be is not yet certain.

===========

Initiative
Val (1d10+5): 4+5 = 9
Naras (1d10+5): 5+5 = 10
Monster (1d10+12): 7+12 = 19

Round 4!

Val stabs at the monster with her Trident of the Hunter (+2 hit/dmg) with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) [TN 10] (1d20+3): 8+3 = 11, hit for (3d4+4): 2,4,3+4 = 12 damage. Heads 3 and 4 are killed, the monster is now seriously wounded.
Naras casts Cure Moderate Wounds upon herself, restoring (1d10+1): 1+1 = 2 HP.
Monster attacks the two. First head is dead. Second head is dead. Third head is dead. Fourth head is dead. Fifth head bites at Val [TN 3] (1d20): 5, hit for (1d8): 1 damage. Sixth head bites at Val [TN 3] (1d20): 14, hit for (1d8): 5 damage. Val is now seriously wounded. Seventh head bites at Val [TN 3] (1d20): 17, hit for (1d8): 4 damage. Eighth head bites at Val [TN 3] (1d20): 16, hit for (1d8): 4 damage. Val is now critically wounded.
Val stabs at the monster with her Trident of the Hunter (+2 hit/dmg) with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) [TN 10] (1d20+3): 19+3 = 22, hit for (3d4+4): 3,4,1+4 = 12 damage. Heads 5 and 6 are killed, the monster is now critically wounded.

(OOC: Chris, you didn't specify who she is casting CMW on, but I assumed it was herself and not Val.

Gallath does a quick count of his arrows, shrugs, then fires another pair of acid arrows, at whichever crewman that doesn't risk hitting Baeros. (Not the captain.)

"I hope you will believe me because my story is so wild" Ouragana begins. "I pretended to become a pirate to help a friend. The captain of the pirate's ship wants to kill her. We came aboard to prove he is guilty of the crime he says she commited. I had to board this ship with the pirates because they would have killed me if I hadn't. The pirates don't know I am a mage. I'm a navigator, not a fighter mage, so I tried to escape the fighting by coming down here. I expected to find only things, not people."

Baeros rushes forward toward the remaining sailors and the captain thinking to himself, 'Where is Takit? He sure would be useful right now... At least he is safe.'. He calls at her, "Save your men! Drop your weapon!" He then attacks two of them with the flat of his blade if they stand still.

Ouragana Stormbride (Merchant Ship, Lower deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
The woman listens to Ouragana's story patiently. "I see. If any of that is true, then can you help us fight off the Poison Curse? Are there any weaknesses we can exploit? They aren't known for taking prisoners, and the few that they do...often wish for death later."

Baeros Axewielder (Merchant Ship, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
The three remaining marines fan out and start attacking Baeros. They all fail to draw any blood, and one of them staggers back after being hit by one of Gallath's acidic arrows. Baeros continues using the flat of his blade, leaving some marks and bruises behind.

The ranger calls out to the captain to surrender, but she scowls in response. "You are the Poison Curse. Your reputation precedes you. We know what you do to prisoners!" She takes aim and fires the rifle, but the bullet flies wide and Baeros remains unharmed. Swearing profusely, she begins the long, arduous task of reloading.

Gallath then slays one of the marines with another well-placed arrow. Only two remain, aside from the captain.

===========

Initiative
Baeros (1d10+5): 10+5 = 15
Gallath (1d10+7): 3+7 = 10
Marine 07 (1d10+5): 7+5 = 12
Marine 08 (1d10+5): 1+5 = 6

Round 9!

Marine 08 swings his cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 11-2 = 9, miss.
Gallath fires an acid (+1 dmg) sheaf arrow from his short bow with elven grace (+1 hit) at Marine 09 who is in leather armor (+1 hit) [TN 10] (1d20+2): 12+2 = 14, hit for (1d8+1): 3+1 = 4 damage.
Marine 07 swings her cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 9-2 = 7, miss.
Marine 09 swings his cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 2-2 = 0, miss.
Baeros swings his primary long sword at Marine 07 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 5-2 = 3, miss. He then swings his secondary long sword at Marine 08 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 15-2 = 13, hit for (1d8): 5 damage.
Captain fires her rifle at Baeros [TN 11] (1d20): 5, miss.
Gallath fires an acid (+1 dmg) sheaf arrow from his short bow with elven grace (+1 hit) at Marine 09 who is in leather armor (+1 hit) [TN 10] (1d20+2): 8+2 = 10, hit for (1d8+1): 2+1 = 3 damage. Marine 09 dies. Gallath has 5 arrows left.

(OOC: Actions for Round 10?)

Val and Naras (Unnamed Island/Sardonx 24th, 5:00 PM)
Naras takes the initiative, slamming her magic spear at the creature. But it simply bounces off its steel-like scales, barely leaving a scratch.

This leaves everything up to Val. Both she and the monster attack at the same time. Val thrusts her trident just as the two remaining heads chomp down at both of them. Naras throws up her shield, protecting herself. Val, however, is bitten just as she pierces through the creature's heart. Both fall at once. Val starts to bleed out on the shore, the incoming tide washing away her blood.

===========

Initiative
Val (1d10+5): 9+5 = 14
Naras (1d10+5): 5+5 = 10
Monster (1d10+12): 2+12 = 14

Round 5!

Naras stabs at the monster with her magical spear (+1 hit/dmg) [TN 13] (1d20+1): 6+1 = 7, miss.
Val stabs at the monster with her Trident of the Hunter (+2 hit/dmg) with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) [TN 10] (1d20+3): 9+3 = 12, hit for (3d4+4): 4,2,4+4 = 14 damage. Monster dies.
Monster attacks the two. First head is dead. Second head is dead. Third head is dead. Fourth head is dead. Fifth head is dead. Sixth head is dead. Seventh head bites at Val [TN 3] (1d20): 6, hit for (1d8): 7 damage. Val falls. Eighth head bites at Naras who is wearing magical vestments (-5 hit) and holding a magic shield (-2 hit) [TN 1] (1d20-7): 4-7 = -3, miss.

"Oh Val! You were supposed to get away!" says Naras huskily as she runs to her companion's side.
The dwarf stabs her spear into the sand and sets about trying to heal Val.

The dwarf says to herself as she tries to stop the bleeding, "I must say, you're the most unexpected of friends. My best one I suppose as you're the only one."
Unless she knows Heal/Herbalism won't work on unconscious {OOC1: i.e. <0HP}, she first tries mundane means to stop the bleeding. {OOC2: Healing (15), Herbalism (12 +2)}
She casts some more spells: CLW & CMW on Val.

"I have been with them only for a few days" Ouragana admits. "I know they are divided and close to mutiny. But even the mutineers will want to continue to be pirates, I guess. Draska people, money and selfishness rule." The last sentence is contemptuous. "I know only defensive spells, I'm afraid. They will only delay our demise unless you can overpower them. I could put a few of them to sleep, or trap them in a web" she offers.

(OOC: Could a Mending spell repair a Web that has been partially slashed?)
