Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Val Urgan (Crow's Nest)
Sierra nods. "We haven't seen our own mother in about 50 years or so," she says. "Terra and I were little more than teens when we left home. Time has a way of flying by if you aren't paying close attention to it." She shrugs. "Of course, I doubt either of our parents would be too happy to see us now, even after all this time. We didn't part on the best of terms."

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Jocelyn looks pale upon hearing the first sentence out of Ouragana's mouth. "You are kind of making things like this a habit. First with that battle with the kyton, and now with this book. Why didn't you ask Thaddeus before you opened it?" she asks. "You could have easily killed us all just by opening that book," she points out with a sigh. "But, I can remove a curse. A weak one, probably. If I can't do it, then I think I know of a couple more that might be able to do something."
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"I just sorta disappeared, I'd think they just think me dead. I don't even think they would recognize me. It's for the best, I have grown out of that lifestyle anyway, it is kinda backwards" Val says "I mean, what kind of female just goes raiding with the intent to f*ck some unwilling male."
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Jocelyn Blaine (Aftcastle)
Ouragana thanks Jocelyn for her help. But Jocelyn did not pray for Remove Curse today, so there is nothing more that can be done until tomorrow. With that settled, Ouragana heads back down to the crew's quarters to ponder her options.
After she leaves, a half-elven sailor approaches. Jocelyn has seen him around before--Javos is his name. "That was pretty cruel, wasn't it?" he asks. "Are you a cleric of Octhanus or Renos? I was taught that Octhanians forgave mistakes, but Renosians are the ones who treat you like garbage for being weak enough to make them."
"Hey, back off," Brock warns. "Who are you to tell a pastor what an Octhanian should or shouldn't say?"
Val Urgan (Crow's Nest)
"How many years ago was that?" asks Sierra. "And that seems like a lot of work and unnecessary bloodshed just for sex. Does your tribe not know what a brothel is?"

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"Even the most patience of Octhanian priests would get frustrated when someone repeats the same mistake over and over again," Jocelyn says. "And depending on the situation, forgiveness takes time," she points out. "If you bump into me, that is easily forgiven. If you kill everyone I have ever known and loved, but swear that it was an accident, that takes a little more time to forgive."
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Baeros stomach starts to bother him. Once he is up on his feet he remembers his last conversation with Jocelyn and is not sure what is worse. Meet her after he made a fool of himself or starve.
A little bit childishly he peeks out of the room he crashed in. He can see Jocelyn with her back to him talking with Brock and another sailor and quickly sneaks to the other direction and searches the kitchen.

(OOC: Hope Val won't call him from the crow nest.

Drav sits up and examines the confines of the -ship-, a word almost foreign to him by now. The idea of having spent almost a quarter of his life in a jungle, far away from his family, still bothers him as he looks around.

Jocelyn Blaine (Aftcastle)
"But as a cleric, you are supposed to be setting an example to others," Javos points out. "Besides, do you really think treating someone like shit will make them stop making mistakes? Or will it just damage their confidence further?"
Brock growls. "Get lost, kid, or I'll put my good foot up your lily white ass!"
Javos shakes his head. "Threats of violence because you don't like what I have to say? Fine, as you wish. I have duties to attend to." He turns and leaves.
Baeros Axewielder (Galley)
Baeros heads to the galley and steps inside. It's around breakfast time, so the place is packed with off-duty sailors, sitting and eating and talking. The galley has numerous tables and benches for people to sit and eat. A dark-skinned dwarven woman is manning the place, handing out food behind a counter. The Bullring has been out to sea for over a week now, so the best food has all been eaten. All she serves now is dried rations and water.
Drav (Passengers' Quarters)
Drav wakes up in a small passenger's room aboard the Bullring. He can't help but notice how strange it is to be on a boat again. He had been trapped on that island for 30 years, and now he was free. He had his whole life ahead of him, and he needed to decide what to do with it. How much had things changed among the islands in the past 30 years? Could he return to his family and just pick up his old life where he left off? Or has the island changed him too much? Could he even cope again in civilization?

(OOC: Reposting the ship's map for those who have forgotten or weren't here when it was first shown. Baeros is two decks below Jocelyn, so there's no fear of her or Val seeing him yet. Neither is anywhere near the passengers quarters.)

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"Brock, it is okay," Jocelyn says as she follows after Javos. "Wait a minute. Who are you to lecture a cleric when you aren't even a cleric yourself?" she asks.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Baeros gets near the counter. He looks at the food, wrinkle his nose and say, "Rations?!? Crap! Can my life get even worse??? OK, gimme some of this... A little bit more. Please."
While eating Baeros contemplate on their moves in the mansion. 'We are still careless. Could take less chances and be more coordinated... Jocelyn is HOT! How she stood in front of the demon...' he thinks between bite, 'Damn! I must stop thinking of her and go on. Although she seemed distressed. Shit, maybe I'll talk to grandpa Brock. She likes him better than me. He might learn what's bugging her.' Finishing the food Baeros goes back out. Noticing Brock is near Jocelyn Baeros grumble to himself, "You are like Jocelyn's tail, aren't you grandpa..." Instead of going to Brock he goes to the other side looking for his dogs and when he finds them he continues to train Hopper, trying to avoid any interaction with the people around for a couple of hours.

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Ouragana goes back to sit on her bunk, deep in thought. Jocelyn had been right, she was only making mistakes, she had never been a good mage... perhaps it was better not to have the curse lifted, and to retire to some safe place with her money... if there was such a thing as a safe place in this world... her thoughts go round and round in a carousel and she can't come to any decision.
There's more to me than meets the eye...

Jocelyn Blaine (Aftcastle)
Javos stops in mid-step, then looks over his shoulder to her. "That's just it, isn't it? I'm nobody. But I still know the difference between helping someone and hurting them. As a cleric of Octhanus, you should know that better than me, shouldn't you?"
He continues walking away.
Ouragana (Passengers' Quarters)
Ouragana sits in her room contemplating her situation.
Baeros Axewielder (Galley)
Baeros takes his dogs down into the hold, deep in the ship, and does his best to avoid everyone else.
Drav (Passengers' Quarters)
Drav looks around the little cabin he's in. It's quite small, just barely enough room for a cot and little else. His armor sits in a corner, along with the rest of his gear including the new magical blade he acquired. There's a little port window, but looking out all he can see is the bright blue sea stretching out to the skyline. The ship rocks up and down with the waves, creaking with the rhythm.

"The idea was to get her to realize she needs to learn from her careless mistakes," Jocelyn says with a huff. For the life of her, she couldn't figure out why she was letting this guy get to her.

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"Yeah, well, it is hard to get rid of their philosophy," Jocelyn mutters to herself. With a frustrated sigh, she walks down into the hold looking for Baeros' dogs.
