{OOC: Edited (9 Nov, 17:30)}
Seeing Val's direction, Naras heads into the sea as well.
"Drowning is better than being eaten," she shouts, knowing that Val is aware that she can't swim, and then she pauses, triggered by the touch of the hated water and ashamed that she, a stout dwarf, actually ran away.
She turns round to face to creature before the water is up to her ankles and starts to crack off a Magical Vestments spell.

Ouragana Stormbride (Merchant Ship, Lower deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Ouragana presses her ear to the door and listens. However, she cannot hear anything aside from the creaking of the boat, the crashing of the waves and the din of battle coming from above.

Ouragana makes a detect noise check [TN 15%] (1d100): 57, fail.

Baeros Axewielder (Merchant Ship, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
The marine swings her cutlass at Baeros again, but perhaps because she is too dizzy from being struck too many times, she misses widely. The crossbowmen fire again, with one missing and one catching Baeros' left thigh. He strikes her, very hard, and she goes down immediately, unmoving. The ranger then bounds forward toward the crossbowmen, who quickly drop their weapons and start fumbling to draw their blades to defend themselves.

===========

Initiative
Baeros (1d10+5): 7+5 = 12
Marine 03 (1d10+5): 4+7 = 11
Marine 04 (1d10+5): 1+5 = 6
Marine 05 (1d10+5): 1+7 = 8

Round 5!

Marine 04 swings her cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 2-2 = 0, miss.
Marine 05 fires his light crossbow at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-1 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-1): 8-1 = 7, miss.
Marine 03 fires his light crossbow at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-1 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-1): 16-1 = 15, hit for (1d6): 3 damage.
Baeros swings his primary long sword at Marine 04 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 20-2 = 18, critical hit! for (2d8): 14 damage. Marine 04 dies. Baeros then moves to the crossbowmen.

(OOC: Actions for Round 6?)

Val and Naras (Unnamed Island/Sardonx 24th, 5:00 PM)
Val whistles for Mist, hoping she's still near enough to hear her. Meanwhile, Naras starts chanting a spell. The monster moves toward them, all eight heads salivating in anticipation of a meal.

===========

Initiative
Val (1d10): 7
Naras (1d10+20): 5+20 = 25
Monster (1d10+12): 10+12 = 22

Round 1!

Val whistles for Mist. It will take a few rounds for her to arrive.
Monster moves 90 feet toward the party. It is now 10 feet away.
Naras casts Magical Vestment on herself, improving her AC to 5 for 30 rounds.

(OOC: How the hell does Naras, a woman so incredibly sheltered that she never met someone of the most popular religion in the islands until very recently, know what a pyrohydra, a Rare monster, is? That's some pretty blatant metagaming, don't you think?)

Ouragana tries the handle and, if it works, opens the door a crack wide, ducking in case someone has a bow, a dart or a thrown knife ready.

If he can, Gallath will try to get to the other ship, behind any crossbowmen who are not engaged in combat. Otherwise, he will find a quiet place to decloak, (making sure the diary is secure), then pull out his bow and shoot any enemy not in meelee combat.

Baeros tries to get to the Captain as fast as he can. If the archers stand in his way he will knock them down. Otherwise he will go straight for the Captain saying, "Put down your weapon. There is no need to spill your people blood."

=================================================
(OOC: This knocking down system doesn't work well huh? How many people are still endangering Baeros?)

{OOC: Round 2:}
Completely oblivious to the fact that the Ring of Fire Resistance in her pouch might be useful here, Naras spends the next interval {OOC: round} equipping her shield and spear.
She might buy sufficient time for Val to get away. A fair exchange for having saved Silverfrond.

Ouragana Stormbride (Merchant Ship, Lower deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Ouragana opens the door a crack and ducks, but nothing flies out at her. It seems she has caught the occupants completely off guard. There are five people within. Four are armed with cutlasses and dressed as sailors. The fifth one looks like a noblewoman of some kind, probably not much older than Ouragana herself. She stands behind a desk, while the four sailors stand in front of it.

=========

Surprise roll for the sailors (1d10): 2, they are surprised. Ouragana can act first.

Baeros Axewielder (Merchant Ship, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Baeros looks ahead. There are six more marines guarding the captain further ahead, not including the two he is fighting now. One takes a swing at him, but it bounces off his studded armor easily. The ranger then strikes at both, one with each blade. He cuffs the first one slightly, but misses the second one entirely. However, the first one suddenly cries out in pain when an arrow strikes his left arm. Gallath, who has maneuvered himself behind enemy lines, is now backing Baeros up.

===========

Initiative
Baeros (1d10+5): 5+5 = 10
Gallath (1d10+7): 3+7 = 10
Marine 03 (1d10+5): 4+5 = 9
Marine 05 (1d10+5): 10+5 = 15

Round 6!

Marine 03 swings his cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 4-2 = 2, miss.
Baeros swings his primary long sword at Marine 03 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 11-2 = 9, hit for (1d8): 1 damage. He then swings his secondary long sword at Marine 05 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 2-2 = 0, miss.
Gallath fires a sheaf arrow from his short bow with elven grace (+1 hit) at Marine 03 who is in leather armor (+1 hit) [TN 10] (1d20+2): 10+2 = 12, hit for (1d8): 4 damage.
Marine 05 swings his cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 19-2 = 17, hit for (1d6): 2 damage.

(OOC: Actions for Round 7?)

Val and Naras (Unnamed Island/Sardonx 24th, 5:00 PM)
Val scans the ocean, waiting for her old friend to arrive. Eventually, the whale surfaces not too far from the shore. When she looks back to Naras to tell her, she sees the dwarf has stopped to engage the creature, holding it back to buy time.

Naras readies her spear and shield as the hulking creature descends upon her. She tries to keep her shield up as numerous heads start snapping down at her. Two of them even breath a stream of flame at her. When the assault is finished, she is still standing. But it's not likely she can sustain another such barrage at this rate.

===========

Initiative
Val (N/A)
Naras (N/A)
Monster (1d10+12): 6+12 = 18

Round 2!

Val waits for Mist. She appears.
Naras readies her spear and shield, which is a free action.
Monster moves 10 feet toward the party. First head bites at Naras who is wearing magical vestments (-5 hit) and holding a magic shield (-2 hit) [TN 1] (1d20-7): 5-7 = -2, miss. Second head bites at Naras who is wearing magical vestments (-5 hit) and holding a magic shield (-2 hit) [TN 1] (1d20-7): 19-7 = 12, hit for (1d8): 2 damage. Third head bites at Naras who is wearing magical vestments (-5 hit) and holding a magic shield (-2 hit) [TN 1] (1d20-7): 6-7 = -1, miss. Fourth head breathes a stream of fire at Naras, who saves vs. breath weapon [TN 15] (1d20): 17, pass. Damage is halved; she takes 4 damage. Naras is now lightly wounded. Fifth head bites at Naras who is wearing magical vestments (-5 hit) and holding a magic shield (-2 hit) [TN 1] (1d20-7): 13-7 = 6, hit for (1d8): 5 damage. Naras is now moderately wounded. Sixth head bites at Naras who is wearing magical vestments (-5 hit) and holding a magic shield (-2 hit) [TN 1] (1d20-7): 9-7 = 2, hit for (1d8): 6 damage. Seventh head bites at Naras who is wearing magical vestments (-5 hit) and holding a magic shield (-2 hit) [TN 1] (1d20-7): 19-7 = 12, hit for (1d8): 6-7 = -1, miss. Eighth head breathes a stream of fire at Naras, who saves vs. breath weapon [TN 15] (1d20): 18, pass. Damage is halved; she takes 4 damage. Naras is now seriously wounded.

Ouragana slips in and quickly closes the door behind her. "The ship is under attack by pirates, and they are likely to take over" she says as she does so, without preamble.

(OOC: I hope this action of Ouragana does not lead to the party getting split yet another time. But I felt that this was most in character with her)

Baeros is trying again to knock down his attackers. He is thankful for Gallath backup since even superior to the poor sailors, still fighting eight more of them after the hits he already suffered is not an easy task.

Val turns back around and yells to Naras "Back into the water!" and moves to attack the thing. She hopes to get it far enough into the water so Mist can help attack.

Ouragana Stormbride (Merchant Ship, Lower deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
The marines seem a bit taken back by Ouragana's announcement. They share a look of confusion. "We know," says one. "You're one of them."

"Get her! Protect the admiral's daughter!" yells another. The marines draw their cutlasses and begin to advance upon her.

Baeros Axewielder (Merchant Ship, Upper deck/Sardonx 16th, 8:30 AM)
Baeros manages to score minor hits on both of his opponents, but luckily he is able to avoid their own blades. Gallath, however, changes targets and now aims for the captain directly. He fires an acid arrow into her shoulder, nearly knocking her down. "Watch out, protect the captain!" someone shouts. Some of the marines move to shield her with their own bodies.

===========

Initiative
Baeros (1d10+5): 2+5 = 7
Gallath (1d10+7): 9+7 = 16
Marine 03 (1d10+5): 7+5 = 12
Marine 05 (1d10+5): 2+5 = 7

Round 7!

Marine 05 swings his cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 8-2 = 6, miss.
Baeros swings his primary long sword at Marine 03 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 16-2 = 14, hit for (1d8): 3 damage. He then swings his secondary long sword at Marine 05 with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) and strength (+1 hit/dmg) using the flat of his blade (-4 hit) and holding back (-3 dmg) [TN 7] (1d20-2): 15-2 = 13, hit for (1d8): 3 damage.
Marine 03 swings his cutlass at Baeros in his studded leather armor (-2 hit) [TN 13] (1d20-2): 9-2 = 7, miss.
Gallath fires an acid (+1 dmg) sheaf arrow from his short bow with elven grace (+1 hit) at the captain who is in leather armor (+1 hit) [TN 10] (1d20+2): 20+2 = 22, critical hit! for (2d8+1): 9+1 = 10 damage. She is now moderately wounded.

(OOC: Actions for Round 8?)

Val and Naras (Unnamed Island/Sardonx 24th, 5:00 PM)
Val hurries back up onto the shore to aid Naras. Using her magical trident, she manages to skewer two heads in a single blow, like she was making a giant shish-ka-bob. Quickly pulling her weapon free, she prepares for the counterattack. The two 'dead' heads hang limply, being dragged on the ground. The other six, however, are still quite active. Naras stabs with her spear, but it's a glancing blow that does little damage.

Two of the heads continue biting at Naras, but the other four turn their attention to Val, who they seem to think is more of a threat. In the end, Val is left with several minor wounds but Naras is in bad shape.

Val's plan to lure the creature into the ocean deep enough for Mist to be useful is a longshot. It would need to be at least 20 feet deep for that to happen, at which point Naras would drown and Val herself would be forced to swim.

===========

Initiative
Val (1d10+5): 7+5 = 12
Naras (1d10+5): 8+5 = 13
Monster (1d10+12): 9+12 = 21

Round 3!

Val returns to the shore and stabs at the monster with her Trident of the Hunter (+2 hit/dmg) with great skill (+1 hit/+2 dmg) [TN 10] (1d20+3): 20+3 = 23, critical hit! for (6d4+4): 14+4 = 18 damage. Heads 1 and 2 are killed, the monster is now moderately wounded.
Naras stabs at the monster with her magical spear (+1 hit/dmg) [TN 13] (1d20+1): 16+1 = 17, hit for (1d8+2): 1+2 = 3 damage.
Monster attacks the two. First head is dead. Second head is dead. Third head bites at Naras who is wearing magical vestments (-5 hit) and holding a magic shield (-2 hit) [TN 1] (1d20-7): 8-7 = 1, hit for (1d8): 8 damage. Naras is now critically wounded. Fourth head bites at Naras who is wearing magical vestments (-5 hit) and holding a magic shield (-2 hit) [TN 1] (1d20-7): 2-7 = -5, miss. Fifth head bites at Val [TN 3] (1d20): 17, hit for (1d8): 2 damage. Sixth head bites at Val [TN 3] (1d20): 8, hit for (1d8): 4 damage. Val is now lightly wounded. Seventh head bites at Val [TN 3] (1d20): 4, hit for (1d8): 3 damage. Val is now moderately wounded. Eighth head bites at Val [TN 3] (1d20): 3, hit for (1d8): 8 damage.
