CH. 9: Winter is Coming

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Shima asks hesitantly, "Gregeddin, we haven't really met, well not very much. I'm Shima.... I know it''s a bit forward of me, but does that offer, to stay at your place, extend to me, too? I don't snore!"
He thought for a moment, then added, "And what can I do to help you find those two that stole your stuff?"

The dwarf pokes around in the storeroom a bit more, not expectant, just hopeful, and unrolls the green rug. Do it, the bearskin or the vase look like they're worth much?
Finally he examines the contents of the vase, anything hidden in the rags, the brown robes and then moves on to determine the contents of some of the barrels, sacks & crates.

If the others start to leave before he's finished this, he shrugs and follows them, unless he has found something promising when he call out, "Hang on a minute, please."

Kendra watches the woman walk off before she turns and heads back home to change and make herself pretty.

The bard ponders for just a small moment, "Now see, I think this endeavor should teach me a lot about trust and generosity. That if we were all going to go adventuring together I'd have to trust you with my life and not to run off with all the coin. And that's no different to what I'd do having people in my home. So yes, I say. If one person proves me a fool then I trust the others here would stand up for what is right."

Shima bows to Gregeddin, replying, "I see that your friends choose their friends wisely. Judge my actions and not my words. But if it is words you seek, I shall not abuse your hospitality. Thank you."

"I like it." Ne-Chanz replies. "Have a nice day. Be more careful." he chides the apprentice.

Arulia shakes her head and says, "I don't need a place to stay, but I should know where you live. If I find the thieves, I'd like to know where to find you and any of the rest of you that take up your offer." She looks about the group and shuffles her feet uncomfortably. "Well...I guess if there's nothing else here, I'll be off. Is there someone who can escort me home so the patrols don't confiscate my weapon and armor?"

The goblin watches the bard a moment, they had been clashing a bit lately but in the heat of battle tensions got high sometimes... I, uh... I appreciate your offer... if it stands, I may take you up on that some day. For now I think I'll stay at the High-Hand. I have some things in the works there... he gives Gregeddin a meaningful look. If I can get moving on some other plans I might need a place to lie-low, though...

Turning to the Gnome, Haahque, you said the statue prevented scrying? Do you think someone could find a way to duplicate that spell? Maybe by examining the rubble?

Grubnick hangs his mace at his belt and fishes out his pipe, nibbling on the stem in his way as he thinks. Belzor might try to find another abandoned building or something with a secret basement and start over... I don't suppose anyone has any thoughts on where...[/color]

Shima says to Arulia, "Are you sure? It is a generous offer from Gregeddin."
After listening to any reply, he adds, "Gregeddin, that's a good point raised by Arulia - if I travel with you, do you have paperwork that covers my weapons?"

Arulia shakes her head. "I have a family, Shima. Even though money is tight, I doubt that Greggedin wishes to take in five other people with me, and I doubt that we would like to just walk away from our home."

Haahqae, Gregeddin, Tulbas, Arulia, Gobax and Shima (Deserted Building)
Shima goes through the items in the storage room, but none appear particularly valuable, especially with the massive tax hike in effect. He would be lucky to get a handful of copper for anything in there. Most of it is damaged in some way. The rug has holes in it, the bearskin smells awful, the pottery is cracked, and so forth.

Kendra Greylock (2527 Market Street, Greylock's Gorgeous Gems)
Kendra returns home to find Norris closing up shop. "Not a single customer today anyway," he admits. "And I doubt that will change before curfew starts. Go on and clean up, and I'll do the same when I'm finished."

Upstairs, Kendra can change out of her uniform and armor, wash up in the basin in their bedroom, change and do her hair and makeup or whatever else she'd like to do to prepare for the evening. She can also decide which gear she will be bringing with her to the party. Her options are limited, as a backpack or belt pouches would be rather conspicuous.

Felran and Ne-Chanz (Una's Weaponsmithy)
"Y-Yes, sir," the young girl says, clearly a bit nervous around the big white minotaur.

"Have a good day," the weaponsmith says to them, then turns back to oversee her apprentices at work.

"Well we should split up and search for the thieves. One group goes to Tulbas's shop to question Magnus, one group goes to the jewelers and question the jeweler. Given his relationship with me, I'll volunteer for accompanying Tulbas. We should meet this evening at the Steel Tankard to discuss our findings."

Shima comments, "It seems as though all the stuff left here is virtually worthless. What should we do next?"

"I'd be pleased to help look for them, Haahque, and happy to accompany Arulia, of course.. assuming the matter of weapon license is ok. But first could you please remind me of the thieves' descriptions and names? And where did you first make contact with them?"

Kendra takes the time to wash up, do her make-up and hair (which she wears down), and then puts on the fancy dress she just bought. She doesn't have any weapons that she'll be able to hide under her dress without people noticing it, sadly enough.

Gregeddin shares the details of his house and informs the group that he is holding a weapon permit and can help take anyone home.
"If you need a place to stay or hide for the future then you're all welcome and know where to find me. I can help move us around, but as we leave I suggest that we at least carry as much of the weapons of our fallen foes out of here and either keep them or stash them at my house. That way if we were in need of additional weaponry for any reason we would know a place to get one."

"Ok, Gregeddin, I can carry quite a bit a kit if you need me to," replies Shima. "Lets get that back to your place first. Then we can try and find the pair that nicked your stuff. You coming, Arulia?
