"Are you sure?" the mage asks the cleric. "We do not know what's in there. it might be more dangerous than here."

But if Jocelyn insists, Ouragana will help her move the body.

Jocelyn and Ouragana, against the mage's better judgment, pick up the little unconscious gnome and carry him into the study. The remaining armor is too busy with Baeros to even pay them attention.

Gallath looses another arrow, only to have it deflected by the armor's shield. Drav, Brock and Baeros both slash and stab wildly at the armor, but to no benefit. Luck is just not with them now. If only Jocelyn's prayer was still in effect! The armor swings at Baeros and the ranger stumbles back, certain he was hit...but when he reaches up to touch his chest, he realizes it just barely missed him by a hair's breadth.

Val, suddenly snapping out of her reverie, wipes a bit of droop from her mouth then takes aim with her own bow. She hits the helmet, again knocking it off entirely. Gallath then nocks a second arrow and looses, hitting the armor squarely in the chest. It stumbles back against the wall with a crash, then falls to pieces on the ground.

Jocelyn places Granite down once they are inside the study, and relaxes a little now that the fight with the armor seems to be over. "Everyone, please be careful," she said with a sigh. "And lets look around here to see if we can find any clue as to where this canon might be hiding."

"Wait a minute, Jocelyn. Did you say canon or cannon? Even though it sounds almost the same, these are two very different things, I don't know if you're aware of that. And a canon is something I would much rather expect to be in a mage's hold than a cannon. So, what are we really looking for?"

Baeros breathes heavily and leans on his swords. After thirty heartbeats he straights up and says, "OK, I'm ready for the next armor..." and then follows Jocelyn and the rest.

Everyone enters the study. Val remains at the door to keep watch, especially on that one armor still stuck in the webbing.

The walls are lined with bookshelves full of books...that have all more or less disintegrated with time over the past three centuries. Strangely, there is no dust and what hasn't fallen to pieces over time has been kept in good condition.

On the north wall, in the center, is a stone fireplace. No wood or even ash is to be seen within it. It has likely been cold for a very long time. On the west wall is a mahogany desk with a drawer. On top of that desk sits a small golden globe; almost identical to the one that housed the map to this island, but smaller and less intricate looking. On the east wall sits a chest, also made of mahogany.

There are two windows on the north wall, on either side of the fireplace, but both are boarded up tightly enough to not let more than a few small rays of sunlight within.

"That seems unlikely," Thaddeus says to Ouragana. "I was the one who translated the original text, after all. The item we are looking for is called the 'lux telum.' Or in other words, a 'weapon of light.' I assume it is a cannon, because the text describes it being mounted to a ship. Doesn't sound much like a book to me at all."

"...They sound exactly the same," Jocelyn says, looking up to Ourgana. "Obviously I'm talking about a weapon because that was what I thought we were looking for in the first place," she adds with a sigh. "Can someone check out that chest?" she asks, looking to Drav and Gallath. "Ourgana, why don't you and Thaddeus check out that thing on the desk?"

"Ahmm... what can I do Jocelyn?" Baeros sheats his swords put his hands on his waist and looks around. He then tries again whistle and call Hopper.

Thaddeus limps over to the desk. "There's a drawer on this desk, as well," he notes. "As for the orb, it looks like another recording device...like the one with the map. But it's smaller. Maybe that means it has a lesser capacity?"

Brock grunts at Baeros. "Enough with the whistlin'! You're just going to bring more of those armors on us, not to mention whatever the Nine Hells else might be up here, lurking around."

"I guess you can check out the drawer on the desk," Jocelyn suggests to Baeros.

"Sure." Baeros says. "If the other guys will be unsuccessful with finding traps and disarming them, I can give it a try." To Brock he says, "I think our battle made enough noise, and if the Nine Hells are threatening Hopper, he need to know we are here and try to join us!" Baeros says angrily, then adds, "Don't worry... if you get yourself missing, I'll whistle for you too!"

*Inspect the fireplace without touching it (emphasis on not touching)*

"Something in this room feels a little weird," Drav says, looking around, "I mean, it may have been a long time, but shouldn't something be a bit dusty?"

Ouragana had been looking at the globe with Thaddeus, but gets distracted by Drav's remark. "You're absolutely right, these things have crumbled, why hasn't the dust spread? There should be some wind getting through these board slits."
She approaches one of the shelves with disintegrated objects and waves her hand in front of them. Not to touch anything, but to stir up enough air to move the dust.

Brock grunts. "Maybe next time don't bring puppies on dangerous missions, eh?" he suggests.

Drav carefully inspects the fireplace. It's completely empty and clean of dust and ash. Although what is really odd is that there is no pipe above leading upward for the smoke to release. It appears that if someone did start a fire here, the room would fill up with smoke pretty quick as a result.

Ouragana stirs up some dust from the disintegrated books, making a bit of a mess. This doesn't seem to do anything, other than making the immaculate room dirtier now.

Thaddeus examines the golden orb, then picks it up. A voice speaks in ancient Eonian, seeming to come from the orb itself. "Ephemeris praecino?" it asks. The mage tinkers with it a bit more. "Interesting. This could be useful. Sounds like a log of some kind. Maybe I can find the most recent entry. It may even belong to the wizard who lived here."

Gallath examines the chest to look for traps and lock type.
