CH. 8: Reunion

Crispus literally jumps in surprise when Jocelyn speaks. He accidentally knocks over a small vial of ink, which pools on the floor. "Oh, ah! Pastor!" he says, grabbing the vial and turning it upright, then searching around for a towel to sop up the ink. "Forgive me, I...I didn't hear you come in." He finds an old towel and tosses it on the spill, before turning back to the women. "Questions? What questions?" he asks.

[Jenara]

"We did not mean to startle you." Arei says softly, grabbing a towel for him if she can find one. "We are looking for some information, and you look like a man who has his eye on things around here."

"Areilon." she offers her hand, "A man came through here recently.." she gives a description of the dead assassin. "Do you perhaps know of such a man?"

"If you have seen him, I'm a little more curious about the ship that brought him in," Jocelyn admits.

Crispus absently shakes the elf's hand, leaving some ink on her glove as a result. "I, uh, don't recognize the description," he admits. "Not good with people. But if he came by ship, and you tell me when he arrived, I do keep records of every ship that comes in to port."

"About a week ago." Arei responds hiding her displeasure at getting ink on her glove. "Have any ships left today?" she adds, what if this was the wrong person?

[HorizonsDream]

"I don't think a lot of people come here," Jocelyn says. "Though, I am usually at the temple, so I guess I really wouldn't know," she adds with a small shrug. "Yeah, it has been about a week, from what Mara told us."

[Nuke]

"Errr, yeah... Steak! It's the same, just a portion that comes from between the ribs. That's how they call it back at Mond island. But by the smell of your cooking I'm sure every part will be just great." Baeros says grinning from ear to ear, trying to improve his first impression by flattery. Baeros takes his place in the table, "Ahhh, it's good to sit among friends who appreciate good ale and meal."

At those remarks, Val raises an eyebrow over her fork. "You're pretty loose with that word under the circumstances, but you are welcome to joins us. If you can keep you mouth full enough." With that, Val continues to eat her meal.

Baeros scowls at Val, "I wasn't reffering to you. I was reffering Takit! and I didn't mean NOW! I meant in general!" after taking few mouthfuls without any curtisy, suddenly Baeros lifts his head from the plate, looks at the ladies glaring at him and says grinning, "Bon appetite, the food is really good. How are your plates?"

Then he looks seriously at Val, "Circumstances?? do you mean you rushing towards me at the forest like you want to kill me??" and with a wink and grin he adds, "Bahhh!! Water under the bridge. All forgiven and forgotten." And continues to eat.

Ouragana follows the exchange between Val and Bearos with interest. "It seems like you have a story to tell, then" she remarks. "And the food is quite good indeed. Especially compared to ship fare."

Harbormaster's
Crispus nods to Jocelyn. "T-True, we don't get many visitors. I'll check my books. Let's see," he says, pulling out another tome and flipping toward the end of it. "Here we go. The, uh, Bullring arrived and departed today. It dropped off a single passenger. Prior to that...not including, um, fishing boats going out to fish, the last ship to arrive here was the, er, Reef a week ago. It's a, uh, small passenger ship that moves from island to island." He looks closer. "It, too, only dropped off, er, one passenger."

Inn
As Ouragana, Val, and Baeros eat, a trio of sailors step inside. They look mildly surprised by the sight of the others. "Well, Mara, looks like the place is packed!" one jokes. The three sit down at a table and Mara comes to serve them.

While Mara takes their orders for an early lunch, they also discuss with her various rumors and local gossip, including rumblings of the slaver's syndicate stirring up trouble, recent terrorist attacks by the League, supposed sightings of the Soulbiters, a claim of ships full of undead attacking people, and a silly rumor about 'birdmen' living on a nearby island.

[Jenara]

"Well the bullring was me..." Arei muses, "The Reef? Do you know when it last docked, prior to last week? if it travels from island perhaps we can catch it."

[HorizonsDream]

"There are a lot of islands. It could have picked him up anywhere," Jocelyn says with a sigh. "Though, if we can find out where he boarded the Reef, we might be able to find where he was hired and why."

Baeros, lost some of his mood, looks at Ouragana. "Yeah, there is a story there..." Shifting his gaze to Val he continues, "Why don't ask your 'capabale warrior' who saved her life from the very same assassin that attempted on Jocelyn life, and how grateful she was about that..."

Overhearing the converstation at the second table Baeros asks Val and Ouragana "Does any of this makes any sense to you?" he asks as he wipes his plate clean with a piece of bread and then licks his fingers.

Ouragana shrugs. "You hear rumors in any port town, and it's hard to tell what the reality behind it is." However, she looks at Val and not at Bearos while saying that.

"I don't like what the League had done to my island reputation. Not everyone there is a criminal or terrorist..." Baeros grunts. "I'm sure willing to change this common belief by doing what I can to protect people from the League actions."
