Re: Out of Character discussion
No, it was simply continual light, but i gave the goblins facing the 'bullseye' style light source a -1 for that round only due to the abruptness of it.
And yes, auto-correct and speech-to-text can be really irritating at times

A fair portion of the party is. Hell, Nocturno only has 1 hp more than Elden right now; though his AC is far better. Dran is hurting and so is Garroth... That Worg is going to be serious trouble if someone doesn't neutralize it soon...Nocturno wrote: Elden is so screwed lol.

I wish we were a group who already trusted each other... lol all of these rangers and fighters... everyone could be raging...
So light has to be cast on the dark area to negate it?
More curiosity than rules lawyering here.

Re: Out of Character discussion
In any case, a direct casting of equal or stronger magical light against magical darkness (and vise versa) would negate the spell completely.
It seems i made a small mistake here.
The spell description for the Divine version (what the shaman used) of magical darkness states "... Any normal light source or magical light source of lesser intensity than full daylight does not function in magical darkness"
Vanidur's staff is the Arcane version of "Continual Light" which says "A continual light brought into an area of magical darkness (or vise versa) is temporarily negated..."
I stopped reading there, but it goes on to say
"...so that the prevailing light conditions exist in the overlapping area of effect."
The divine version words it differently
"A continual light brought into an area of magical darkness (or vise versa) cancels the darkness so that the prevailing light conditions exist in the overlapping area of effect."
What should have happened with the staff is that Vanidur's staff would have changed a cone of the magical darkness into normal, mundane darkness only while he had it in there. The rest of the darkness would remain, leaving Garroth, Linar, Nocturno and Katten still unable to see... And the darkness would return as soon as he removed the light source.
So it's a good thing Linar dispelled it

Re: Out of Character discussion
Negating normal into normal darkness would have allowed Infravision to work?
In the cone, that the staff was pointing in?
Just thinking of possible strategies in the future lol. Not that normal darkness helps Elden.

Think of it like 'destructive interference' with wavelengths.
yes, the area of temporarily canceled darkness would allow infravision to work
And elden would have been the only ally in the cone aside from Van and maybe katten.

I wish we were a group who let the Chr with the best chance of catching them unawares go first..
Now that's £^πked let's deal with the aftermath.
Katten is going to take the Warg on.
It's a shame, i did like her character...

Well you can always start her Identical Cousin.

In the case of healing another in Melee, if the touch fails, could I redirect the heal to myself if injured?

Re: Out of Character discussion
@Tristen: Would Linar expect most goblins to speak (or at least understand) Orcish or Undercommon? (If both, which is the more likely to be understood by them?)

Re: Out of Character discussion
Some speak orcish, and a rare goblin might know undercommon. Orcish is by far the more likely of the two.
I keep forgetting Linar doesn't speak common

Re: Out of Character discussion
If Van is able to Spook the Warg, it'll take off and Katten could engage the goblins around Garroth. Options!

Re: Out of Character discussion
I took all the starting languages and NWPs from those that I thought would be appropriate to a Drow starting life in the Underdark. Some of these will likely not get in-campaign use, e.g. Duergar, Drow sign language, Survival (Underground), Underground Navigation & Direction Sense. <shrugs>TristenC wrote:...I keep forgetting Linar doesn't speak common

Sorry that was a rushed way of asking if Garlth had any spells that might help...Nocturno wrote:That sucks... the spell failure to learn was interesting in 2E, btu the spells in 5E seem more fair and less balanced towards FIREBALL!! Sorry I can't say that normally lol.

Re: Out of Character discussion
Ausie; if the worg is spooked away before hiss turn, would garroth prefer to pursue it or stay and fight the goblins?
Re: Out of Character discussion
He would prefer to fight the goblins.. He knows he is very weak and not about to turn his back on the remaining gobs and their hurty spears. Without the warg there, he is more interested in quickly dispatching the two goblins.
