An expedition with the "Seagull"

Desolate and abandoned, the evil alchemist’s mansion stands alone on the cliff, looking out towards the sea. Mysterious lights and ghostly hauntings have kept away the people of Saltmarsh, despite rumours of a fabulous forgotten treasure. What is its sinister secret?

Amon doesn't have time to cast, to think or even to berate the Triton woman for failing to say anything sooner.

Dogmeat comes to the rescue, going for the seacat's neck. Amon swings his quarterstaff awkwardly, not likely to hit the broad side of a barn.

===============

Initiative
Amon (1d10+4): 14
Dogmeat (1d10+3): 12

Amon attacks the seacat with his quarterstaff (1d20): 4, miss.
Dogmeat bites the seacat (1d20): 15, hit for (2d4): 3 damage.

(OOC: Seacats are usually about 15' long, including the tail.)

Searos all but rolls his eyes and mutters something about "trap city" as he sights down the arrow, making a disgusted noise at the lack of a good shot.

As her Sleep spell is too weak to affect something so large and she can't get a clear line of sight for her darts or Chromatic Orb, Echo attempts to maneuver so she can get a clear shot, if all possible.

"yeah, looks like trap" Vee agrees with Searos.

She drops Brax's clothes and runs into the water, holding her staff ready to hit the cat-part of the Monster.

The distance between the shore and the rock the triton sits on is about 35 feet (sorry I didn't state that sooner).

Like everyone else, Kim had suspected a trap and prepared a spell. A magic missile is hurled towards the sea cat, inflicting 4 damage. This doesn't keep the sea cat from attacking Amon, however. But it has little luck, its first paw misses Amon so widely that the momentum of its swing turns it around. In the process, the claws of the other paw tear at Amon's cloak of protection, leaving four large gashes in it and tugging hardly at Amon's neck (STR check for Amon to see if he falls, please).
Vee wades through the water as quickly as she can, but the attacker is already underwater again when she arrives. Brax throws herself on the tail of the sea cat, but fails to grip it. She now has to make sure she regains footing, not to drown in her heavy chain mail.
Echo runs a little further on the path, the curvature of the bay gives her another angle that would make an attack possible.
Brave Dogmeat lunges at the seacat and bites it even underwater, causing 3 damage. He is now in deep water, the next dry ground would be the triton's rock.

Since everyone suspected a trap, I am not rolling for surprise.
Initiative order:
Kim: 1d10+1=3
Sea Cat: 1d10=7
Vee: 1d10=7
Brax: 9
Echo: 9
Dogmeat: 12
Amon: 14

Attack rolls:
Sea Cat: 1d20, 1d20=[1], [12]
Brax: 1d20=8

(OOC: No, I decided to let the fumble of the seacat mean it got just the billowing cloak with the not-too-great hit of the second paw. He might have taken damage if the pull on the cloak had toppled him)

Gunter shares an "I told you so" glance with Searos on the shore and lowers his bow, not wanting to risk hitting one of the companions.

"What the hell is that thing?"

He watches the fight play out for a minute while trying to decided whether or not the rest of the party has it under control...

(OOC @ Jen: No, just tell me what you plan to do.)

Echo still has a possibility to attack in round 1. Gunter would have had too, but he's undecided.

Kicking upwards, Brax fights with the water, using her feet she looks for a suitable place to stand, already wet she doesnt care if her whole body is submerged and instead moves towards the rock. Poised ready to grab the creature.

(According to the way I see the rules on Magical armor, the actual affects of wearing it are halved, thus she will feel like the armor doesnt weight as much when it actually does, hence the reason she didnt take it off [its under her clothes])

Just as everyone catches their breath after that first attack, the sea seems to explode. The seacat comes back and moves to attack Brax. Behind Vee's back, another one throws itself out of the depth to attack her. And something jumps out of the water to sit beside the triton girl. Wet and dripping, covered in sea weeds, it is the most ugly and horrific-looking old woman that could ever haunt your nightmares. So terrible-looking, in fact, that she can instill fear even in the bravest of hearts.

Saving throw vs. Paralysation for everyone please, plus action and initiative for round 2?
